This is hands down my favorite anime fight ever, the emotions felt so raw and realistic. The animation on the robots has so much weight and depth. Everything is just 10/10.

My favorite, and least favorite scene. Least favorite because of Asuka’s brutal death right after she comes to understand and overcome her trauma. Favorite because of: - Asuka’s untamed badassery and utter takedown of the MP Evas - The incredible animation that actually gets right the WEIGHT of the combatants and weapons involved in the fight - The beautiful Bach piece in the background
Some of the best animation put to film Sagisu's score is just haunting as well
YESSSS the ONE thing that animators almost never get right is the WEIGHT of giant robots you can't just have these things flinging around all wild-like, they would tear themselves to shreds these bastards need to build up speed, and carry through after they attack the animation in this fight pulls it off amazingly!
Anno understands how to avoid spectacle creep. By saving the best fight scene in the series for last, the viewer doesn't become desensitized.

One of the best parts of the movie, yet I still can't get over how inhumanly she had to die.
What an Achillean character. Spends the last portion of the show sulking, then just decides to excel in combat out of pure existential rage. Even gets killed by a ranged weapon after just dominating in meele.
This scene alone explains why this is my favourite anime of all time. It has a difficult fight that the character gives their all to beat. It seems like she wins, and you feel happy... then they all come back to life. You rarely get to see a character give it their all and still die. She was right at the peak of her character arc, she fought back against the death, and she almost won. Those are the 3 most important aspects of making a sad character death. This show has so much depth that makes it just hit different.
I don't know about the other viewers, but I felt this fight very real, the feelings, the waves, the blows, the force, the slips, the vertigo... The scene managed to convey everything. It was like I was there too. So sad Asuka didn't win at the end.
I love Asuka so damn much, I love this fight and how she's just such a talented pilot and skilled fighter like goddamn she's the whole package
It's a fucking crime that a video with this this beautiful quality cuts exactly before the most impactful moment of the scene.

Still one of the best fight scenes in all animation. The fact that they are doing all the cool moves and fighting but the tone is so somber she sad is insane to me.

OMG, most brutal, visceral fight in the show. Even if Shinji is the main character and his ass gets saved a lot due plot armor, and even considering how many times he's praised due his sync level, and got many of the best, gory, awesome fights (against Leliel, Bardiel and Zeruel), as Asuka was felling in disgrace (an a comma after a while), in this unique fight she reedems herself, finally understands her mom was watching after her the whole time and showed us the best battle in the movie (and show), first against japanese army and then against the EVA series. Just her, kicking ass with pure skill (note how the best Shinji fights were won due EVA 01 going berserk, so it wasn't him at all, unlike Asuka) :3
