Bookshelf Tour πŸ“– Antique books, my Top 3 Dark Academia books, building a cozy book nook πŸ€ŽπŸ‚

Hi friends! Welcome back to another video :) As promised, I'm doing a little bookshelf tour, showing you guys how I've decorated my bookcases as well as introducing you to some old books I've started collecting in recent years. I thought it would be fun to also talk about my all time favourite dark academia books and I would love to know if we have any in common, or just what your favourite books in general are! Ah I've also finally built the book nook I received on my birthday and I am totally, utterly in love. Hope you guys enjoy the video :) LET'S BE FRIENDS Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/danielapardor/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@daniela_pardor My outfits on LTK: https://www.shopltk.com/explore/Danielapardor

[Music] hi guys and welcome to another video for this week's video I thought we could talk about a topic that if you've been following me on Instagram for a very long time I think we'll have in common and that's books I'm definitely a collector at heart I love collecting vintage postcards vintage newspapers and whenever I can old books as well though my collection is somewhat limited so far I thought I could show you guys some of my favorite old books that I've collected in recent years mostly f
rom secondhand bookshops or antique book shops and as well I wanted to later talk about my favorite books so far in my life I guess the books that have had the most long lasting effect on me and that I always tend to recommend to people I think if you like dark Academia we might have some in common so I would love to know what you guys think I can also give you guys a little tour of all my bookcases so far that I have here in the living room and I have a booknook that I want to assemble today so
we can do all of that together when it comes to decorating my bookcases I try to use objects that I have purchased while traveling as much as possible this Greek pottery vase is from my first holiday to Greece with my mom and I must have been around 13 years old the design is so intricate and I love the colors so much on the other hand this replica of the Three Graces came from my travels to Pompei and I bought it as a souvenir I also think it's nice to incorporate small paintings into bookcase
s as it adds a new layer to look at C my boyfriend bought this particular one at an antique shop in London then I also have a magnifying glass for aesthetic purposes mainly as I think it's a really lovely piece of decoration my little bust of Dante came from my trip to Florence which is a place I really hope to visit again and if I do I would love to buy more mini busts of all philosophers as I think they look really nice in a bookcase lastly I have a full moon candle which I bought at a witch's
fair and I always try to light it on a full moon whenever I remember to do [Music] it [Music] now that I have given you a tour of my various bookcases and decorations I want to share with you some of my favorite old books I own which I think you might find interesting so let's Dive Right [Music] In so these old books right here are a collection of Jane Austin novels these are probably my favorite old books I own just because of how they look they are a perfect shade of brown and they have that
worned out look like they've been read and enjoyed for many generations I'm definitely a fan of Jane Austin and her novels I haven't read all of them yet but I have read several of them and I have really enjoyed them I guess Pride and Prejudice is the most famous one I love the movie from 2005 that's one of my favorite comfort movies to watch and the book certainly doesn't disappoint I love the title page of these editions they have a lovely illustration each of them and it says that they are fr
om 1881 so that might make them some of the oldest books I own in my collection even though you can see they've been used a lot they are in really good condition to be honest the pages are all where they should be nothing is broken so I think they can definitely be read without a fear of destroying them so as I had mentioned I have six of them I'll tell you which titles I have so I have Lady Susan Sense and Sensibility Pride and Prejudice as I mentioned Northanger AB and persuasion and lastly Ma
nsfield park I think when it comes to classics there's something so lovely about having older additions and they look so pretty as well when they are displayed in bookcases so that's a perk as well so moving on from the Jane Austin collection I'll show you guys my old editions of the [Music] brontes so this is my collection of the brontes I also have six books so very similar to the josa collection but these are a lot different in appearance they are a lot more burgundy and they have a lot of em
bellishments on the side they are also not as worned out as the Jane Austin ones but they have these really lovely patterns they have the same pattern on the edges of the pages I'm not sure if that's coming across very well but I think it's a really beautiful book to look at so I have number 1 to 7 but I am missing number six although I will tell you guys which titles I have number one is jire which is one of my favorite books as well I particularly love it when books are annotated or if they ha
ve any sort of writing at all and it seems that this book belonged to someone it says Edith Rundle I think October the 8th 1890 so that to me makes it so much more valuable even though physically these books aren't really of that much value yet but for me the fact that they were used by someone in the 1890s is just a really magical feeling and I love that they're part of my library I love Gothic literature so yeah that's one of my favorite Classics to read then number two is shirely I still need
to read this one but I've heard some good things about it then we also have of withering Heights and Agnes gray the professor and lastly a biography of the life of Charlotte Bronte so yeah this is my collection of the brunes novels from 1889 hopefully one day I'll find book number six but until then they make a wonderful addition to my library changing topics slightly I have this book of poems of win the Poo Christopher Robin and this is from the 1950s so it's a little bit closer to Modern time
at least not as old as my Jane Austin and the brontis collection but it's a really beautiful book it has this lovely engraving of Christopher Robin in the cover and I am a huge fan of win the pool I sort of grew up with it inside it has so many lovely illustrations I just think it's super cute and it's quite nice to read poetry sometimes anyway so I think that was the reason why I decided to purchase this book moving on I have this Duo of the ilad and the Odyssey from 1987 what fascinated me ab
out them when I saw them at the secondhand Bookshop was how brand new they looked I love the blue shade and the darker blue in leather on the side the gold accents are really lovely as well they're also in the cover and the font is really nice as well so overall I think they create a really elegant and beautiful addition of the classics I think if you are into ancient history or the world in Antiquity in general why not have beautiful copies of the Odyssey and the ilad at home sticking with the
theme of ancient history I have this huge collection of penguin Classics from the 1950s and they will basically tell you everything you need to know about ancient Rome and ancient Greece I really love the look of these penguin Classics and I think that was a big reason why I started collecting them the covers are gorgeous so I'll show you each of them separately so I have Plato the Republic with a lovely owl illustration and I have the vage of Argo with a lovely kind of Greek illustration in the
middle then I have Sophocles the th Place Plato protagoras and menow Persian Expedition a slightly different cover but very lovely as well several plays from Ides and this is probably my favorite cover I just think is really beautiful the ethics of Aristotle the Jewish war alest is another place the life of Alexander the Great and actually I've been recently watching the Netflix documentary about it it's been quite enjoyable Greek meths and lastly the pelian war these have been books that I hav
e collected over the years I didn't get them all at once on their own they tend to be quite cheap I think roughly maybe3 to5 whenever I find them in secondhand bookshops and I just really like the burgundy and just the way that the covers have been created I think it has a very Timeless look and just like the Jane Austin collection I really love displaying these ones in my living room going into more peculiar topics one could say I have this book called nbits and crets it's basically a book that
looks into the superstitions charms and customs of witches from devenshire and it was published in the 1900s I also really like the title pages and the illustration of that witch as you can see there it's nits and kmets Deon share Customs characteristics and folklore I've always been very interested in witchcraft The Witch Trials folklore in general seeing what Society believed in and the stories that they passed on to other Generations so even though I haven't read it all yet I'm very excited
to do it and it was only Β£10 so I think it was a bargain going with the theme of Witchcraft and horror I have this book called great short stories of detection mystery and horror this Edition seems to have been published in the 1940s and looking at the content it has stories of the supernatural Tales of nightmares and the Border land of the mind it just sounded really interesting to me and I think that's why I bought it I love the look of the pages they're just so Brown and worned out and I thin
k that's just the perfect look for an old book even though again very similar to nuts and kmets it has a very simple cover but I think that's all you need sometimes anyhow I think these are some of my most interesting old books I own I certainly have more but I feel like the video will get too long if I go through every single one of them plus I thought it would be nice to talk about some of my favorite books to do with modern fiction I see these type of videos a lot on book talk bookstagram and
I thought why not share at least three of my favorite books of all time I really like watching videos when people talk about their favorite books I feel like you can really get to know them as a person based on what they enjoy reading the most so for that reason as well I would love to know in the comments below what are your favorite books and maybe we we have some in common so I guess my favorite book of all time is the secret history by donat tart I think perhaps you guys expected me to say
this but yes this is the book that has had the longest impact on me and I feel like when I first read it I devoured it and ever since I have reread it multiple times and every single time I enjoy it the same or even more I love the characters I love the way it's been written I think it's an essential read for dark Academia lovers I already felt an affinity to the book because I was studying engine history anyway so I felt like I could be part of their friend group I feel like the way donat tart
has written this book feels very cinematic to me like whenever I read it I can almost picture like the movie in my mind as I'm reading along it has the perfect Autumn winter Vibes I don't know this book is just everything to me it's almost 600 pages but it goes so quickly in my opinion I have recommended this book to so many of my friends that are not even in the dark Academia world they're aesthetic and they have enjoyed it so much so definitely read it if you haven't read it before I love thea
rt she needs to give us a new book this year or next year but just I need more of her stuff she's amazing in my opinion in second place we have The Book Thief again this book is just amazing to me it's a chunky book but for some reason it just goes so quickly I love the characters I love that the book is narrated from the point of view of death I think it just really grabs you from the very beginning and because I love the character so much and obviously the story and the topic is obviously a sa
d topic Nazi Germany you know what to expect s of I definitely cried so much while reading these but even then I feel like the books where I cry the most are the ones I end up loving the most as well so this is definitely one of those and also actually I really like the covers of both so that also gets some brownie points in my opinion but yes The Book Thief amazing go read it this is my second favorite book ever for third place I kind of couldn't choose I feel like after third place onward that
's when it gets difficult for me so I have chosen two books that I think deserve to be in the third place one is 9th house by Lee berdugo and then we have the historian by Elizabeth Cova so ninth house is definitely dark Academia with a hint of fantasy so ninth house is set at yel University and I love books that are set in a university environment that's also why I love the secret history and other books like if we were villains I feel like the light has gone a bit weird the sound has just disa
ppeared but anyways I love the characters they're very likable you get into the story very easily so it's looking at like these secret societies from y University and some of them are actually real or maybe all of them are actually real but and the element of fantasy is that all the different secret societies have different abilities or Powers I guess you could say and it's very much the protagonist against the rich and Powerful students of those secret societies so it's a really good book I rea
lly like it and the sequel hellbent was also very good so I definitely recommend you guys to read this one and the other Contender for third place is the historian I would say it's also a dark Academia book it's looking at Dracula so vampires we love that and it's kind of like a you really get to feel like a researcher it is also slightly chunky book and I've heard some people say that it gets a bit slow for them in certain points for me it kind of didn't because I really enjoyed that research p
hase of like the protagonist is like learning about the history and like trying to follow the steps of her dad in trying to find the real Dracula the different secrets and mysteries from the story but what I love the most about this book is the feeling of Adventure but the feeling of Adventure in kind of like a vintagey way there's a lot of train travels and exploring old villages with couble streets and it's just that feeling that I feel like it's very ainal as well and very much European trave
l and finding mystery so it's definitely the type of thing I love to read if you enjoy the topic of vampires as well I think you might enjoy this one so yeah if you give it a go or if you've read it already let me know the comments what you thought of it so as I mentioned before I would love to hear in the comments what your favorite books are and if we have any in common and now that I have showed you some of my bookcases and how I've decorated some of them I really want to assemble the booknoo
k that I received on my birthday I actually want to incorporate more book Nooks on my bookcases I think they make them look so beautiful so yeah this is my first one I don't know if it'll be difficult to assemble but we can do it together [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so hopefully you guys have enjoyed this very bookish video talking about old books my favorite books book Nooks everything related to books if if you have enjoyed it as always make sure to give it
a like And subscribe if you haven't already as that really helps me and I've been really enjoying making these videos for YouTube so I can't wait for next week's video and I'll see you guys soon [Music] bye
