it's been four years since the pandemic shut down the world but the CDC says the toll that left on young people's mental health still persists today Stephanie Quirk has more from W Milwaukee when it's at your fingertips it's hard not to scroll how much time do you think you spend on your phone on average a day maybe 5 hours 7 7 to 10 5 hours probably but for many of these students at U Milwaukee those numbers were even higher HED during the pandemic think we really wasn't able to like go to scho
ol still be there and still be engaged it was just hard I looked back in my you know phone history and I realize I didn't even remember you know the last three posts between social isolation and online learning just watching somebody do it on a screen or talk about it on a screen isn't as effective Dr Tyler Rickers with Rogers Behavioral Health says they're seeing the impacts the covid lockdown left on young adults and teens today decreased social awareness and abilities the education isn't quit
e as good so they have some deficits there and some of them don't haven't or haven't had necessarily the consequences he says all of these factors can cause mental health challenges and that leads to anger and and depression anxiety and frustration but doct Ricker says that doesn't mean there isn't Hope just because this is the way it is now doesn't mean it's the way you're always going to feel and if you're feeling lost don't go down the rabbit holes uh you know get out of the dang house go do
some things get some sun talk to people advice designed to help scroll less and look up at the world more that was Stephanie Quirk reporting if you find yourself feeling lost there is help out there we'll have resources link to this story on our website fox6now.com
