reacting to the fire emblem engage trailers! (+ my pre-release impressions)

Hello, my magical friends and welcome back to  another video! Please excuse my background, I'm in my basement and it's a mess... but y'all know how  it is. But today is a different kind of video that I'm trying to do. Today we are preparing for Fire  Emblem Engage, which is coming out January 20th. What does that mean? To prepare? All it means is  that I wanted an excuse to talk about Fire Emblem, but what we're going to be doing today is  just watching the trailers. I did already watch them but

I wanted to re-react to them  since I haven't watched them in a while and I also wanted to provide some commentary on  my thoughts so far about the game pre-release so that's what we're doing today. Some side notes:  I am using my streaming setup to record this so I'm not really used to talking directly to  my webcam so if you see me talking to the side like to- because this side has my OBS screen  and the chat overlay and I'm used to like talking to the chat overlay so if you see me  looking i

n that direction that's why but I'm still talking to you. It's still me and you,  okay? But yeah, it's a little awkward but I guess I'll get used to it. Oh, and  another thing: this video is kind of casual, it's not scripted. I do have an outline of things  I want to touch on like if there's anything that I forget to talk about during the trailers  then we'll just talk about it at the end, if that makes sense. I know there's like some Japanese teasers out  there but we're not gonna be reacting to those, just the ones that were  released by Nintendo of America. Just for simplicity's sake. I've only played... god, my brain's not working  but I've- my first Fire Emblem was Fire Emblem Awakening and I played basically all the games  since then so I don't have any knowledge of the previous games and I feel like if I did play  the older games I would have like... like this trailer, this whole game would probably hit a  little different like if I was familia

re Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia and I played that and I really liked it.  Story was a little bit lacking but overall, it was a really fun game so I hope that they go  back and remake some of them- the older ones. t's talk about the elephant in the room. The  thing that everybody has been complaining about, well I wouldn't say complaining but like  making jokes about. Alear's character design. I got some thoughts. I'm not gonna you know, clown him or anything. I think people have done  that enough. Yes, I know it's giving Colgate. I know it's giving Pepsi. I know  it's giving Sailor Moon super stars. That's- it's not super stars... But I recently  watched a video about Fire Emblem's art direction, like th

e evolution of its art direction and it  was very enlightening and after watching that video I kind of appreciate Alear's design more.  It's still not like my most favorite thing ever but I definitely appreciate it more and I also  appreciate the artist more. I think they did like- they do like VTuber stuff I think, which is really  cool but I will say that I do like this form of Alear more than the other one in terms of how the  color scheme works. I feel like the red and blue- I think it's kin

d of overbearing, I feel like if  the colors were distributed a little differently, maybe it'll be better. I think the outfit's  fine but I think the whole two-toned hair, one red eye, one blue eye kind of  like put it over the top a little. I don't know I mean- It's okay, it's  fine, it's fine, I like it... I like it. I mean I would say it's better than Byleth in my  opinion. I don't know maybe Byleth was just... no well, By... I would say Byleth's color  scheme- when it came to like the green

hair and green eyes, I was like "what  the heck am I looking at?" Oh, oh Shez! Let me not talk about Byleth, let me talk about  Shez. Shez's color scheme: the purple and red. I don't know, I don't know what  they were thinking with that. It definitely felt like a gateway to Alear's  design, but better. Well Alear is better. But yeah the purple and red? No. Blue  and red? Okay that's an improvement. But yeah Shez's designed like I definitely  got used to Shez's design as I played through Three Ho

pes. Shez's personality definitely  saved the character for me but uh yeah. Oh yes, we got dark-skinned characters  in Fire Emblem. It took 'em long enough. Another thing about Fire Emblem Engage...Fire  Emblem Engage, like I've heard this before but I definitely agree. It doesn't feel like a mainline  title for some reason and it's probably because of the art and the design and stuff, which overall  I don't have a problem with. I like this type of design, I'm just not sure if I like it for Fire  Emblem exac

tly. I know my favorite art style for Fire Emblem was Echoes. Echoes was really  good. I loved it. This is definitely different, I feel like Three Houses, like Three Houses was  different but it still felt like in the same vein as the other previous games, at least from  Awakening to Three Houses but this is different so, but I like it. I do like this style but  if- okay if someone took a screenshot of this game from the trailer without showing any  of the Fire Emblem characters that we know and

then some- like if someone took a screenshot  and they're like "hey this is the new Fire Emblem game" I would be like "Why are you lying to me?  This looks nothing like Fire Emblem. This does not speak Fire Emblem to me." But yeah I'm not saying  this like it's a bad thing. It's just different and it's very interesting to see so I'm- I mean  once we play the game and we go through the story and get attached to everyone and stuff it'll be  fine, we were probably gonna end up loving it but yeah i

m though, I don't like Alm. Oh yeah, they can use emblems too. Evil Marth? Well that definitely made things a little  bit more exciting in terms of the story. I can't wait till we get to the  Somniel trailer. That's gonna be fun. Dang. I really like the animations. They're very nice. Corrin looks so cute. Yeah, I have no idea who Sigurd  is. I don't know who that is. I really think- I really think that they should  bring back main character customization again. I know they did it with Awakening

and Fates as far  as my knowledge goes, so I don't know. I know some people, they- I guess they prefer to have the main  character design to be predetermined but I don't know- I like customizing my own character. I feel  like when I do that, I have a greater connection to that character, but then again maybe not  because Corrin- when I played Fates, I wasn't too connected to my MC that much compared to my  MC for Awakening so I don't know, maybe it really doesn't make that much of a difference,

but I mean  I still prefer to customize my own character but- and I'm wondering with like... they're  bringing back character customization at least for like your units. I don't know if  you're gonna be able to do anything with Alear. I'm not sure if they showed that already or  not. Honestly, if we can customize Alear, I doubt that I'll really do it because I don't  know. Customization is like... I like it and I hate it at the same time. I guess if I have  the opportunity to customize my charac

ter from the start then I like it more than if I have a  predetermined character and then you give me the option to customize later on because I'm not  going to want to mess up the current design. You know what I mean? An example I can think of  is when there was customization for Aqua in 0.2. I did not customize her at all, like I really  like the idea but I didn't customize her because I was like she looks weird now, I prefer the way  she is, so you know what I mean? I don't know. was like- Why are we exercising? And we have a zoo. We have a petting  zoo. I was like what is this game? What? It poops crystals. Look, it's pooping bond fragments. I'm like  are we sure we should be touching those? Oh I guess we can customize Alear because  I just saw the glasses and that ugly dress. And we exercise I'm like.. I can't even comment. I'm just confused. I mean I do like the, you know, the extra stuff  you could do, the mini games but like it was just jarring to see. Oh and this

is what I'm  most excited for in terms of the mini games. I don't use amiibos but good for y'all who do. That's the only thing I'm jealous  about. You guys can get music. Also that song is a bop. I was listening  to that song non-stop a couple weeks ago. I do not need all that space. Like why- I was  gonna be like "oh this room is for a goddess" but technically I'm a Divine Dragon, which  is the same thing so I guess I deserve it but like it's kind of bare and there's a piano  that I'm not gonna

In the outline I said no- like under my character's category  I said no units that I'm partially... that I'm partially? Oh particularly. Wow, typo. No units  that I'm particularly intrigued in but

I'm sure that'll change once I play the game. First of all,  that is a lie. I am very much intrigued. I don't know why I wrote that but yeah there are already  a few characters that I am really interested in. "Hoping for S supports because  I'm a [BLEEP] for marriage." That's really in my outline. So from what I've  seen and what I've heard, I don't think there's going to be S supports in this game, which kind of  sucks. I mean it's not like a necessary element. I just like it. I like romancing

characters okay.  I like games with dating mechanics. I just like it. It's not super important to me, it's not gonna  change my opinion of the game or anything but I wish there were S supports you know? But I  mean, if there's none that's okay that's fine. I said "yes Edelgard does look weird in  terms of her design." Yeah like I don't know, she does look a little off with the art style  but ehh neither here nor there. nd just give my little mini opinion about all of  them just by assessing their appearance. But yeah we already talked about  Alear. We don't need to go into that. Yes, what's his name? Vander? Okay, Vander.  I mean he's standard old guy standard- yeah standard old guy that has, you know, usually  like some sort of war or battle experience and he's somewhat of a voice of reason. I'm not gonna look at the character descriptions  but I'm pretty sure like some of these- I know like they're all from different regions and  I think some of them may be like royalty-ish, but yeah she reminds me of someone, I  just can't think of it.
