the results of San Francisco's election have some proclaiming the end of this once liberal City but others say that goes too far Crown for's Dan Kerman spoke to some political analysts and is live in the studio tonight with their take on what this all means Dan well the expansion of police powers and these new rules regarding who gets Public Assistance funds have raised questions about how Progressive San Francisco is and also how this could impact November's mayor's race the passage to prop f m
eans drug screening will now be required for many seeking Public Assistance funds prop ease passage means an expansion of power for San Francisco police for some these are indications San Francisco liberalism is on the way out it has nothing to do with uh ideology at this point I like think of it as more as um people who believe that uh government needs to take a more assertive role in defining uh and enhancing the quality of life and others who who have a slightly different view about how that
should be handled political analysts see this as less a rejection of progressivism and more a rejection of some Progressive policies this is people saying you know the state of the city is bad they don't feel good about where things are the mood is sour and on issues of homelessness drug use uh Public Safety they've been blaming and holding accountable uh uh the idea of progressive or you know policy positions which which tend to be more about constraining the police uh uh you know and I think t
his is a rebuke of that both measures were backed by San Francisco mayor London breed and while analysts say it may help her re-election bid by reversing her High disapproval ratings it will still be an uphill battle we haven't really gotten rid of you know the problem of fenil homelessness is still an issue so even though mayor breed is on the right side of the electorate uh the electorate still I think is dissatisfied um with the delivery and that might be her vulnerability she has a lot of wo
rk to do political analysts though are divided as to whether these election results could end up propelling Progressive supervisor Aaron peskin to enter the mayor's race or make him rethink that idea he has a chance to appeal to a broad SWA of the electorates uh he he knows how to talk about these issues in a way that does not put him at odds with where a lot of Voters are when you look at the results for example the Democratic County Central Committee where the so-called moderate slate one 21 o
ut of 24 uh of the seats yeah the question is whether or not he even gets enough votes to make it into uh the second or third tier um in rank Choice voting and if that's not the case you know I think it's going to be really hard for him to to mount to to want to mount a campaign now at this point there's been no official word from the peskin camp about whether he is entering the mayor's race which will be voted on in November Noel Ken Dan thank you
