UB40: A Family Sound #UB45

UB40 is more than just one person - it’s a family, a crew making music together. And it’s not just the people you see onstage, either. Jamie Travers, son of our late departed brother, Brian has been a major part of the UB40 sound for decades, creating our dub mixes as well as producing for lots of different bands and artists across the world. Jamie is very much a part of our new album, UB45. UB40 is absolutely a generational family sound - and a family firm! Our new album is out on 19th April! We can’t wait for you all to hear it! Pre-order the album here if you haven’t already https://fanlink.to/ub45. Big Love UB40

[Music] Jamie has been working with us for for years you know since since he was a a young lad it's decades here with Jamie over the years he's become more and more important more and more instrumental in the sound you know he played the keyboards on this album until we got Jared in who's done additional keyboards but all of the the basic keyboards were done by Jamie plus uh you know there's stuff that he done uh of his dad that was Jam's Liber of love I guess when he knew that we were doing a r
record of some of the classics he went and found live performances of his dads and um spun them into the recordings we've just done so that you know it kept the flavor of Brian in the numbers and he's the sound is unmistakably Briant he's a very creative guy you know uh he does for us what um rymond used to do for us Earl's brother um which was you know the Dub Side of the sound was what he created and what he you know in the studio gave us that sound and Jamie's the same Jamie adds a sound and
a you know atmosphere and all sorts of things that we're not playing you know it's it's stuff that happens in the studio he's become you know very much a part of our sound he understands us I think better than any other engineer that we could possibly work with you know we produce our own records anyway so we don't work with a producer but he's as close to a producer as we've got you know he uh he co-produces with us and um he's very much part of you know the the end result of a year b40 rep if
it was somebody else that you know somebody who who were just normally working with a normal producer they may clock off at 5:00 do you know what I mean Jamie doesn't do that at all he'll he'll go home and say I I'll work on that I'll work on a sand for that and and then at 4:00 in the morning at 4:30 I'm a nice owl too you know so he sends me something at 4:30 in the morning cuz he's obviously just finished it you know and that I've done this skyboard or I've done this or I've done you know and
he just sent what you think you know he's constantly working and as he says it his heart's in it [Music] k

Jamie is a chip off the block. I met him in 2005 when the DEP International studios in Digbeth were still standing. He is literally a part of the furniture like the late Ray "Pablo" Faconer was in the 1980s. Jamie has done a top job on the Dub Sessions albums (Number 3 is my fave). It sounds like UB45 will be a fitting tribute to the late Brian. Matt Doyle is also a fine addition the the band. I'm looking forward to the UB45 album.

The UB40 Sound is instantly recognised if you are a Massive UB40 fan like i have been for the last 30 years or so, since about 1991. I have pre-ordered your new album UB45 on itunes. And i have also purchased my concert ticket for your concert show later this year at Resorts World Arena Birmingham on 9 November 2024. I am very much looking forward to both of these, especially the concert. UB40 Concerts are fantastic. The UB40 music sound is one that i really really like. Great Band Great music.❤

@uggsingh31

Well done Jamie! Top guy!

@tomp189

Yeah I've noticed Jamie's name on numerous UB40 albums over the years & you can see him working with his dad & grandad on the video to the Travers & Sons underrated version of 'Smile'.

@lesliejones6512

JT is a special kind of guy, a chip off the old block 👏✌🎷

@ublutwyche

Jamie has been around with the band for a long time. On Homegrown was his first credit, I think, including Swing Low. Even before then he has credits on Oracabessa records, like Musical Sniper's "Rough Upbringing", and his own released material on the label like "Heltaskelta" and "31 Seconds". Defo an extension of UB40, who's helped to keep their sound alive. Big respect to JT x
