Trader Talks: Schwab Coaching Webcasts

Streamed 3 months ago

welcome to Schwab coaching for our very last class of the day as we head into the weekend I'm Connie Hill and I have a problem uh oh just a moment I have to mute my side and I didn't realize it wasn't muted all right here we go I'm back technical issue apparently solved all right Welcome to our last webcast of the week here at Schwab coaching I'm Connie Hill and you are getting started with Stock Investing now if you're brand new to the markets really don't know a whole lot then you're in the ri
ght place all right we're going to throughout the weeks that we have together we're going to build a foundation for you and allow you to just kind of gradually Implement your knowledge okay so if you don't know very much you're seriously you're in the right place if I go a little too fast for you I'm going to try to go slow but if I am going going too fast for you please let me know or if you need me to repeat something I will now I am joined in the chat by Lee bow and hopefully you've caught so
me of Le's classes this week they've been excellent and love the addition he and Kevin are making to our overall coaching lineup well as we get started here let me go ahead and go through a couple of disclosures and then I'll set out the agenda we'll get down to business here well what we talk about today is intended for educational and informational purposes only not recommendation of any security strategy or account night account type uh just keep in mind is for your personal information only
all right uh we will be using the paper money software application and it is for educational purposes only successful trading during one time period does not guarantee successful vesting of actual funds in a later time period because market conditions continually change uh as we talk about costs and things of that nature keep in mind we won't take into consideration any commission or fees past performance of any security or strategy does not guarantee future results for Success investing involve
s risk including the loss of principle now one thing I should have mentioned to you is that as Lee is in the chat here he will help me fill some questions okay many times there are questions I need to show you the answer to but he will help me out here as well answering maybe some of the questions that you have as they come in all right so our agenda overall we're just going to take a quick look at the series kind of tell you what to expect from this class and and we are starting over on this se
ries today having be this be the very first class we're going to talk about the basics of stocks we're going to talk about why they might be used for different purposes or trading Styles and then we're going to look at a lot of examples not only on The Thinker swim platform we're going to spend some time time on Charles Schwab I know there's been a lot of change this week we have new people that have been with TDM Mar trade get converted over to Schwab and they're trying to learn the website we
also have Schwab people trying to learn the Thinker swim platform okay so I know there's a lot of newness here today and again I'll try to go slow now as we take a look at things and just kind of what our overview is we will roughly go in a particular order here uh today this is kind of our overview and talking about growth stocks and value stocks uh we'll talk about technical analysis what to look for to get into a trade and out of a trade how to minimize or or uh take care of your risk right n
ot putting all your eggsit one basket or things of that nature we'll talk about top down analysis don't worry if you don't know what that means yet we'll talk about trading different time frames and then we'll spend some time on intrinsic evaluation and these these are kind of some of the main topics we're going to hit but they're not the only topics that we will hit now as we talk about stocks all right some of you might go I do not know a stock from a bond okay so we're going to talk about sto
cks here a little bit and just what we have on your screen a stock represents partial ownership in a company that's public and you purchase a share or multiple shares of that uh by owning shares of the stock you have you know a small fraction of the company might be only two shares or 20 shares or whatever right but it uh is still uh your opportunity to claim future earnings from that company now there are a couple of ways that people make uh money okay by these stocks that they hold purchase uh
one is if the stock goes up in value meaning maybe you get in when the price is lower and it goes higher or sometimes it means you're getting in at maybe a little bit of a high price with the expectation that it's going to go higher and then another way is what we call an income type strategy where you receive periodic payments in the form of a dividend and the company is returning some profits to you in that format and many times when companies are established and maybe their products been aro
und for a while in their company they might be in a stage where they're not growing a lot and so because of that that's why they may be try to reward shareholders with dividends to reward them in that way okay we're going to take a look at all of these things over the next few weeks there we go all right let's talk about these three investing Styles so number one style we're going to talk about and this is where we're going to spend a little bit more time today is called growth investing and gro
wth investing depends on the price of the stock to go up that's the only way you're going to increase the value of your position is because of that it doesn't rely so much on dividends and it doesn't rely so much on you getting the absolute really low price on it okay uh value investing you could think of value investing as maybe purchasing a stock you might think it's on sale maybe it's been beaten up right maybe it was a higher price and has come down and is a significantly lower price now but
you feel like you know the value that it is right now is appropriate you kind of have to roll up your sleeves do some calculations to determine that it's not something that you can just look at and say oh yeah that definitely is a value right we have to put a little um effort into understanding the stock and their numbers and then the income the other style that I I mentioned to you is where people receive some sort of a dividend yield uh and that's how they receive their benefits from owning t
he stock sometimes within investment uh or income investing people really are have a much longer time Horizon okay they plan to just like Park some money and receive something from that like the dividend in a percent in a percentage uh back before the FED started raising interest rates which was like what previous 15 years or whatever until a year and a half ago the what you could get you know for a CD or something like that was the interest rate was so incredibly low that it was really difficul
t and challenging and so sometimes people would say well instead of doing something like that where I'm just not getting much from the bank for my cash maybe I'll just park it in some dividend paying stocks that give hopefully the opportunity to make something better better than some of these other forms of uh like your cash and cash equivalents like CDs all right let's talk about one other thing and then we're going to go out to the platform and again feel free to chat in your questions and I'm
I'm going to check one thing here because I'm not seeing your questions and so my little setting keeps changing on me and so I'm just going to change it here real quick make sure we're good all right looks like we are up to date you guys are just being nice and friendly with each other uh I appreciate that all right technical analysis that's the study of the historical price and volume on the stock and we see this basically on some charts some of you you know when I first started investing you
know it was logical to see what it was doing looking at a chart but I didn't necessarily know I could make decisions based on that and so we're going to to spend some time in technical analysis fundamental analysis is more what's the quality of the stock what are their financials look like are they increasing in value as far as their financials go is their revenue going up are their earnings going up uh are they having a lot of debt maybe too much debt okay so that's where you get into looking a
t the quality of the company all right let's go out to we're going to start out here and think actually on the Charles Schwab site we're going to go there first and we are going to here now I'm going to take a step back before we look at some examples and there's a couple things I'd like to show you on in in the education area all right we have courses for you I think you probably have heard enough about the calendar today hopefully you know how to get there maybe you've got a window set up and
marked it as a favorite uh but courses are going to be important for you that don't really know much about the market so I want to point out a couple that will be really helpful to you that will be things that we reinforce in this class so as we come down here uh one of the classes is Stock Investing with fundamental analysis right those numbers those ratios have to do a little bit of work print some numbers so that you can identify what's the quality of a particular stock uh here's an options c
ourse it's very good for beginners and but I would say maybe do this course stocks uh stock trading with technical analysis and stock trading with fundamental analysis to give yourself a really good base all right because option trading is uh involves a lot more and you really have to be good with your technical analysis and have a decent understanding of fundamental analysis so that you can then layer the extra complexity of doing option trading on top of it okay so some of the concepts we're g
oing to talk about in here today is in this stock trading technical analysis and again how I got here was learn horses right really easy to get to uh those of you that maybe have gone through some of this information in the past it's uh been refres freshed and updated and I'm really happy with some of the extra things that have been brought into the content to help you be a little bit more well-rounded and and understand the stock market a little bit better we also have a lot of videos but I spe
cifically wanted to spend time on the courses here uh let me look real quickly Austin how do I show the positions on the chart we might get into that Austin you know I'll try to answer that question for you when we we go over on to think or Swim because I think that's where you're asking for that information from and wy's oh okay wy's just making a comment here L says I haven't seen that fundamental analysis on Schwab well sweet now you know all right in fact I should go down a little bit lower
uh there's another option strategies class directional option strategies that somebody might take after they do the the course for the beginner right getting your basics down and then this other one income investing that kind of actually fits into our window here as well uh although we do some very specific classes on income investing that may involve dividend stocks all right let's take a look at examples of some of these now I am going to I'm going to leave that part here and let's go we're go
ing to go to our menu nope we're not going to go to our menu I'm going to go to this one uh there are many of you that are new to thinker swim this class is if you're new to the market okay but sometimes people that are new to the market are also new to interfaces and what they're going to trade on whether it's a website or what we're using and teaching you The Thinker swim platform okay so if you will go to learn again we're going to spend time on the learn menu and then over here under Trading
thinker swim demos this is what it brings up there's a lot of videos to help you get started yeah we also have offer some classes as well getting started with thinker swim which is on Tuesdays uh but if you're like you know I have some time this weekend I would just like to spend some time maybe getting up to speed man there's some great videos here to get you started okay starting with an overview um customizing maybe your charts here a little bit but then get it into things like well how do y
ou actually make purchases I'm going to show you that here today as well how we actually do a trade but I want you to notice there are a lot of little videos to go through there may be some of you that are coming from Street Smart Edge and you're like okay how do I do things in think or Swim all right two really good videos right here Street Smart Edge to think or Swim one and two okay Joe MAA did a fantastic job with these tutorials and Joe has traded on both the platforms so he knows very well
kind of uh set you up for some things so that you can hopefully have a a smoother transition we know it's a learning scale or a learning curve but uh take advantage of this all right learn thinker swim demos all right now we are going to come over here and I'm going to just bring up on the Charles Schwab site some tickers some stocks and we're going to talk through them a little bit okay we're going to identify so the first one is a stock you may have heard of before it's called Aman it's a pha
rmaceutical company all right you put in the ticker symbol and then what I'm going to do it just gives you kind of a little chart here and I'm going to select on the name of the company right here's see that giant hand I'm just going to select on it and it's going to bring a lot of information back about AMJ so what's interesting here is we can get a lot on one page and we have three different columns here right we have kind of a bigger column oops yellow's not a very good color here and then th
is column here which is going to give us some feedback from other organizations that look through the numbers and make determinations as far as ratings and such and then there's additional information in this third column over here all right so you might be used to going through tab if you're coming from TDM trade not so many tabs in this particular how we look up stocks this way now we've got Amgen and I'm going to show you what the stock has done over the last five years okay so just kind of u
h a big basic here so if I come down here maybe to one of its lower prices that looks like maybe it was around 168 is or so uh about a year ago you know and maybe it started a little bit higher where ever this line is on this day maybe it started to say about say 191 is okay and then we see over the last five years what it's done so it's gone from 191 to right now about what 272 is or 266 I'll I'll be more specific I'll look at the actual value there instead of the price here on the side and so
as you look at that you might say well okay over the last five years it's gone up 37% now that's not horrible right that's increase that's going on and you'll see different returns over different periods of time so we kind of have an idea about the big picture over the last five years and what if I just said this year all right if we look at the fir just a one-year chart you're like oh man in the last year they've actually gone down over 7% okay interesting interesting detail uh let's look at a
at the ratings here now we're not going to go into deep detail about what the Schwab Equity ratings are I know in a class a little bit earlier this week I think Lee touched on I think some other coaches have as well uh but the the rating that it receives here is an A so just think back to school would you rather have an A or an F okay yeah you'd probably rather have an A if I were to guess all right and so it doesn't mean it's a perfect stock but there's a lot of elements that the Schwab rating
Equity rating that take is taken into consideration to even give it a great and then you come come down here and look a little bit more about information you can see maybe uh how it is measured with some of these rating uh items you can see what different analysts think of the stock you're probably familiar with Morning Star uh you probably familiar with cfra from a previous website uh you might not be as familiar with their their offen and I don't even know if I said that right I hope so I migh
t have said it with the Utah accent Argus in the market Edge which is a little bit more technically looking at it from more of a technical basis than a fundamental basis okay as we scroll down here we see another thing we see on this stock what kind of a dividend it pays it looks like it pays a little bit over 3% which is not too shabby all right so in this case we get a a little bit of growth so the company's making money by the price of the stock appreciating over a longer period of time we sa
w over the last year not so much but also the dividend that it pays to its shareholders so this is a stock we wouldn't really say is in growth mode anymore would say it's a little bit more mature uh it it hasn't really been beaten up okay it's just kind of been a a steady as you go means it's not very volatile which when you're starting to invest in the market sometimes be kind of nice uh volatility represents the extreme up and down of the price movement right you can be stocks price is always
going to go up and down to some extent right but you could be on the kitty coaster with lower a lower volatile stock volatility stock I should say or you could be like on the adult roller coaster right that just has major UPS ma major drops right and you you are feeling like your stomach can't doesn't feel so good okay uh so we'll talk through how do we identify that those types of things as well so as far as what we talked about with this reward you because of price appreciation or dividend a l
ittle price appreciation but not as much there' probably be more emphasis on the fact that it's giving a dividend all right let's look at another stock here let's look at a company you probably are familiar with I'd be very surprised if you weren't uh let's look at Microsoft both of these are very well-known companies right now Microsoft let's do the same thing as far as looking out here on a fiveyear chart H it's up over 233% in the last five years okay so a very healthy growth rate here uh it
has a Schwab equ Equity rating here of a b all right it's not an A but a b it's not probably too shabby right uh again you can you can look look at this information uh let's look over the last year on this stock as well all right if we look at the last year okay we know the five years's been a fairly steady grower the last year however up about 64% okay so that is a very healthy rate and so it might we might consider it more in the category of a company that is very large very wellknown large la
rge market cap but it still happens to be growing let's check out its dividend as we scroll down here we're go past some of the more recent news stories come down here to this section here that says dividends and and it's pointing out here what the dividend has been over the last four quarters so you can see uh but essentially it's at less than a percent 83% so you might look at the stock and say okay it's rewarding shareholders more so on that price appreciation than probably this dividend elem
ent okay doesn't mean you couldn't use it for the dividend all right uh you're going to be looking at this information to try to distinguish you know kind of what where does it fit and how's it going to reward a shareholder now let me come out here let me look at the chat here real quick um uh tamali says that what I have what I have access to that if I don't have a Schwab account and the answer is no however if you have a tdmr trade account you can go out and look at each stock individually the
information's presented a little bit differently okay so right now we're supporting people on both platforms although we're teaching exclusively from Schwab you might be in the batch of the last people that might I should say might that is going to have their account converted over which will happen sometime in the spring uh date hasn't pinned been pinned down for that yet we'll probably all get to know at the same time but we'll get at least a couple of months notice maybe about 60 days notice
once that date has been picked okay uh let me see what other question I might need to address here yeah okay thank you Lee for answering that question I uh missed that you had answered it let me see what else I need to do here uh LZ says does Schwab Equity rating cover International stocks and ETFs I cannot pull up an ETF in this class um but I Lee's actually probably a good person to play with this I'm trying to think if there's an international stock that just uh comes off my tongue I'll pull
up an international stock here in a minute all right and then we'll see what it provides all right so we've looked at am we've looked at Microsoft let's look at another company uh this might be the company some of you have heard of I'm going to go ahead and put this back on the fiveyear a ticker symbol here is AI artificial intelligence this company is 3C AI all right let's kind of look at what happened it in the last five years uh well we can kind of see it was up here pretty high but over her
e on the ledge and it looks like it was you know one $80 plus five years ago we can see this massive slide okay and then we see looks like kind of forming a base down here in January and then starting a real gradual uh acceleration going up H so in the last five years it's not going to give us a value here this stock hasn't been around five years okay uh it's only started trading in January of 2021 so it only is showing us a couple years uh let's look at I was hoping it would give us something t
here okay we'll look at it in the last year now you saw the big Trend I showed you how it pulled down start forming a base and then in the last year it's gone up significantly 124% okay do you think this company's paying a dividend we're going to check and see I do want to point out here Schwab Equity rating is an F okay so a company that maybe was r a higher price it just got slammed just got beat up you might think well they might be a value type stock they may also be uh maybe in the growth c
ategory looking at this return over the last year now let's scroll down let's see below the news do they pay a dividend they do not okay so this whole section is Blink here because they're not in a position to reward shareholders a dividend okay that's not the mode that the stock is in and so we'll use different stocks for different purposes and we'll talk about over time the different things we're going to look at there's one more I want to bring up to you here ticker symbol here is FMC so it's
FMC Corp uh it has a c rating kind of average all right and you could go into the details of why and then here is its fiveyear chart Okay so over the last 5 years it's down 28% okay so not so great let's look in the last year okay over the last year oh it's down about 59% this year Okay this may put itself uh we're not going to do any math on it today but this might qualify to be a stock that somebody might look out for a a bargain but they would have to roll up their sleeves and have to do a l
ot of number crme crunching to see hey is this really a fair price uh where it's trading at now or you know maybe it maybe after they run the numbers they think maybe instead of this being a $50 stock $57 stock you know maybe they say I really think this is more like a $75 stock based on the numbers that are being crunched okay now something else to be aware of as we come down here and look at the dividend here what are we seeing well you might go oo 4.63 that's an interesting amount and it is h
owever one thing you have to keep in mind is that when a stock price is depreciating right it's dropping and dropping then in relationship to the dividend that's being paid which has been very steady here 58 cents a quarter uh that rate as the price of the stock drops the rate continues to go up and up and up and so it might be a little bit misleading because say over the last year yeah let's say you get a 4.63% dividend on it you're like happy about that part but if over the year the stock itse
lf is down 59% you might not be really happy about that eroding asset okay so lots of different ways that we can look at these stocks different ways that we can use them and we will explore those throughout this course let me take a quick look over here at the chat yeah AI is only two years old says Paul um LZ I'm going to pull up an international stock here in just a moment uh let's see here Wy says still need tda's Market monitor okay uh which is something that helps us identify uh Stronger st
ocks and stronger Industries we're going to go about it a different way on the the Schwab site right now uh does the research tab allow for screening stock and options that that offer dividends yes uh it does it's not something we will be able to get into today but yes okay there's lot of different things you're going to want to screen on uh International stock this is what I really haven't looked at for quite a long time let me just take a quick look at it ctsh is a uh company that has a lot of
um International work uh programming technology type of a thing now uh I believe it is uh doing business in India so it might have that International exposure uh this might not be the best example here but you can see it's bringing up a rating it's bringing up the chart it's bringing up the news and the ratings from the analysts bringing up the dividend section looks like their dividend has been well it was 27 went to 29 so increased a little bit there okay uh very good Lee I appreciate your he
lp here all right uh let's move on to our next thing uh let's go to the TD Mar trade site or not the TD man trade site oops scratch that the Thinker swim platform old habits die hard and we're going to look at couple stocks here now I was just looking at the indices seeing how the day closed out man the NASDAQ had probably one of the best days it's had uh in a long time not necessarily this year or this quarter because there really some big candles in here but really A positive day overall in in
the market I think all the major indices ended up positively but what I wanted to do is maybe show you some information from from the course and then use that information in the course the technical analysis course to use it to create a scan to maybe help us Identify some stocks okay so we are going to go back to the education if you are working off I'm going to call it the Schwab uh thinker swim okay uh you might want to come in this way go to education here I'm going to do it off of the the C
har Schwab website where we were over here in education and we're going to come over here to learn going to pull up courses again think I kind of backed out of it we're going to come down here to this one stock trading with technical analysis I'm just going to click on this giant icon here show some charts and then we're going to scroll down here to l three and we are going to go to thought that was the section I was going to go to let me check my notes real quickly here I think maybe it's a lit
tle bit lower here there it is it's the next section down I want to take you to something that's called bull Flags sample plan we'll talk about establish ing some rules and identifying you know what are the criteria that you want to look for for a stock of a particular type now I don't want you to worry so much if you don't know what a bull flag is okay want you to know that we're going to lay out for you some of the things we want to be looking for we'll get into Flags later but I want to scrol
l down here showing you a picture of some Flags uh one thing that we might want to look for it says this bull flag objective and it says okay here's some watch list criteria basically this is what we want to be looking for okay so we want to be looking for stocks that are in an intermediate uptrend using a one- day yearly chart so we're looking for stocks that are making higher highs and higher lows over the last year now a couple of stocks that we look at were not going up higher highs and high
er lows over the last year so we know we won't be looking for stocks like that we're going to look for average daily volume of 500,000 or more that might differ a little bit that is going to be a little bit higher than maybe something you've studied in the past at 250,000 but then looking for prices to be above $10 okay we want to make sure that there's enough trading activity going on with stocks that we're not the market of the stock we want there to be a lot of shares uh that are traded with
other people and having a stock above $10 kind of helps keep us out of some um some problems okay so how do we find such stocks let's go take a look uh this one I'm going to do from the thinkers one platform so as we jump back there and here's our chart that we were on we're going to come up here to the scan tab uh and I know some of you are new this is what we're going to build I'm going to show you how to build it this is our scan we're going to do uh let me come up here and hit Resort or rese
t it's going to wipe it all out it's going to bring it to basically the first step what you might do if you're trying to build your own your own screener here all right we are going to use some different filters and when I say a different filter what I mean by that is right here on this side where it says stock stock stock that's telling us that we're using the stock filter there the ones they start us out with there's three of them uh we don't have to use them but they come from this stock filt
er other filters come from over here on the far right hand side where it says Plus or add filter and if I select on that there's that stock filter there starting us out with and then we see there are some other filters that we're going to use here we're going to start just with stock filter here and we're going to start out with the price now do you remember the price in that sample investing plan for the watch list crer IIA what we looked for we're looking for something that has a price over $1
0 so I am going to choose a price here I'm just going to choose the last price but if you want it could you choose something else could you choose the closing price or the bid price or the ass price yeah you certainly could I'm just going to use the last price we're going to put a minimum here of $10 now before I hit enter here want to point out this little section to the right because as we add criteria the field of the stocks uh here's our big universe of the whole field of stocks and this ran
ge is it's showing the entire range okay of all 13,626 stocks that could come in to our search here now if I hit enter here I shouldn't say if because I'm going to hit it's going to be a when I hit enter here this number is going to drop okay now we're down to 5,880 okay plenty of stocks for us to take a look at now now we also have here two stock that were going to change we do want to use volume here this volume from the stock filter is today's volume so if you ran this particular scan first t
hing in the morning where there wasn't a lot of trading activity going on yet uh it might skew the results if you're using this volume now at the end of the day where we are now we're just looking at today's volume and it wouldn't probably be so bad but we're going to get rid rid of it I'm going to select on this X on the far right hand side and I'm going to do the same thing here on the percent change because we're looking for we're going to put in a a scan here that's going to look for some fu
ndamental criteria as well as some technical criteria Okay so we've got our price in there next up we're going to grab two fundamental filters here I'm going to select on ADD filter and we're going to choose two fundamental filters here and we're going to put in some things that might help us find some stocks that are maybe in growth mode meaning we're not looking for dividend paying stocks we're not going to look for stocks that are beaten up okay so we're going to M we're going to uh do that h
ere so on the fundamental filter first one we're going to grab is is a PE ratio let's do that one first uh price earnings ratio gives us an idea if the if the company's fairly efficient in being able to get earnings based on the price of the stock or maybe if they're not so much now stocks that are in growth mode sometimes do not have uh many times don't have the same type of PE ratio that a stock that has plateaued that's a mature stock okay many times their number is higher so we're going to p
ut in a really wide range here and those of you that maybe in the past have only had done investing based only on or you know having a big factor be the PE Ratio I'm going to put in a high number here that might give you a little bit of a heart attack okay but just bear with me all right let's go with 80 and I mean fif um 8 to 80 we'll go with 8 to 80 uh next one we're going to put in here is return on Equity want companies to be making money we want them to be able to be sharing that money some
times companies will trade really high prices when they haven't even made money yet which is always an interesting thing so we're going to re uh select here return on Equity we're just going to put in on the annual a minimum here of 15 all right 15% now we're going to add a couple of technical well some study filters we're actually going to do three of these and I have to tell you the study filter does not work in your paper money so when you want to use it you may have to log out of your live s
ide into your paper side so that you can run this search run this scan so we're going to take a couple of studies here we're going to come down here and we're going to try to find the average volume so we're going to come down to volume and choose average volume and to remember what it we were looking for at least 500,000 I'm going to change this million to 500,000 okay no no uh decimals periods in here but I am going to look over a shorter period of time because sometimes stocks may have a lowe
r price or lower volume maybe at the beginning of the year and then as they start escalating in price and people notice and then sometimes that's when the volume picks up so I'm going to look over a little bit shorter period of time 30 days which is about six weeks then we're going to look for Trend and and in that sample rules it said look for stocks that are making higher highs and higher lows so the way that one way we can do that to find we're going to look at Price performance and we're goi
ng to look at price change we're going to do two of those and one we're going to put for the to represent the intermediate Trend and the other we're going to do a short-term Trend all right so this particular one we're going to put this going up 15% in the last 65 bars which is about a quarter okay so we're looking for stocks that are up 15% in the last quarter then we're going to look look for stocks that are up say 5% no not 50 five there we go in the last 21 days 21 days is about a a month wo
rth of trading okay we're going to look for it I am going to just say only scan in stocks you can run it off over different watch lists if you wanted to either your own personal watch list or some public watch list but we're going to just kind of Leave It Wide Open let's go ahead and hit scan here see how many we get back okay so today we get back 12 all right now you can if you you're like okay kind of like this little scan Connie taught me I want to keep it and save it feel free to come over h
ere and next to the fire on icon click on the stack and just say save scan query and give it a good name uh I have called mine oh it doesn't show there because I didn't save it uh I have it calling this growth CL or growth stocks okay you might want to put more information on there don't call it Connie scan cuz Connie's going to teach you a bunch of different scans for different purposes okay uh if you want to save it as a watch list we can select here we can say save as watch list we can give i
t a name and I'm just going to do one right now I'm just going to give it the number one but you'd want to be more descriptive just want to make it easy to find and then over here on the far left hand side in our watch list we can come over here we're going to grab is one watch list which is essentially our results and then we can go down and look at the charts now I don't expect your chart Masters here okay uh but basically we're going to look at these on the right side is the price and down he
re at the bottom is the date and I have about five or six months up here okay now I've linked them together so that whatever I have on the watch list here I've got that one in a red square I've also got a one in a red square here so that we can just go down this list and look at these different stocks all right so is that upward trending yeah overall that is upward trending how about this yeah this is upward trending yeah these are stocks I'm going through kind of fast here these are stocks that
are definitely in an uptrend and they also meet all that criteria that we put in there now in each class I want to just walk you through a paper trade really quickly all right the stock we're going to do is a dope all right I don't want you to worry about if Adobe is perfect for you or why do I think adobe's good to do I want to just show you an example so you get used to paper trading because I'm going to encourage you to do that so we've got Adobe up here we're going to look at the ask price
we're just going to click on it and as we click on that ask price it brings up a a little menu down here at the bottom with some defaults now I did some work before our class and to determined we are only going to buy 20 15 shares we're going to do 15 shares here so I'm changing that quantity uh this looks like um pretty close to the last price we'll go ahead and use that but if you wanted to change it you could and it's a limit order so we're saying we don't want to pay more than this price tha
t's our limit that we're willing to pay and then we will also let's see here oh this account is not eligible to place trades in well that's not good um I will place it in our other account uh I've got a couple of different paper trading here okay and so I will place that in our other account now it's not going to let me hit confirm and send because of that okay uh we will make sure to cover that in future sessions okay so today was just the idea taking a big big picture look at things and then l
et's come back here just kind of taking a a big picture look at things just give you an idea what we're going to talk about in this class it's brand new it's people for people that are brand new to the market that don't know a lot learn the basics of stocks and focusing in one of those areas that we talked about earlier is it an income stock a value stock a grow stock and so forth all right if you are trying to get used to thinker swimming and give you one sh challenge which is to make one paper
trade today and maybe like two or three over the next week just so that you get familiar with that process where to find the stock putting in the ticker symbol hitting that ask so it'll populate in order and then customizing it for how or or not but make sure you're doing it in your paper account okay not your Live account everything we do is for practice purposes uh because of course we're not talking about recommendations uh we're just kind of going through some example trades to help show yo
u the way all right Lee I bet you're ready for the weekend thank you for helping me out here in our last class of the day and we're going to start over bright and early Monday morning right at the O uh opening bell again in fact Lee's going to be there Lee and Kevin are going to be there uh with trading the markets I know you're going to enjoy that have a good weekend everyone we'll see you again next week
