Anime Recapped here. Today I’m going to explain a Fantasy Game
Adventure series called “KumaKumaKumaBear”. Spoilers ahead! Watch out and take care. In a small, modern apartment in Japan lives
a lone girl named Yuna. She had been living independently from her
parents, who are busy traveling outside of Japan. Yuna had been living independently from her
parents who are busy traveling outside of Japan. Her only relative in the country is her grandfather,
who constantly worries about her living alone
. He often tells her to visit or else he’ll
stop paying half of her living fees for the apartment. She agrees to visit him soon, then goes back
to playing in the virtual world. Yuna’s a big, strong, gamer with a penchant
for virtual reality games. She’s been straight up ingesting them for
a year now, and she’s addicted to a game called World of Fantasy, a VRMMO that allows
players to use magic and unlock more abilities as they progress. Groundbreaking stuff! Yuna has worked her butt off to becom
e the
top player by taking thousands of quests and defeating countless monsters in-game, as well
as developing her avatars stats for a long period of time. When Yuna logs in one painfully average day,
she enters the game and is given a mysterious reward by the creators for reaching such a
high level. It’s the day she won her bear suit, along
with an update to the entire game. One might think that a bear suit is such a
bogus prize to receive after spending countless of hours not having an identit
y outside of
one game. In contrast to its adorable appearance, the
suit is actually a highly advanced battle weapon and protective gear that’s almost
completely indestructible. After seeing the suit’s stats for the first
time, Yuna believes that it’s some sort of cheat item but decides to store it away
since it’s too embarrassing to wear in public. Before starting, an NPC gives Yuna a strange
survey about her life in the real world. She describes her life at home to be boring
– it’s one where Yu
na isn’t really close to anyone, and she clearly prefers the virtual
world over reality. After flashing her an enigmatic smile, the
NPC sends Yuna to the starting point. Upon entering the World of Fantasy, a double
whammy hits poor Yuna: not only is she in a wholly different world she isn’t familiar
with, but she’s also wearing the lame bear costume. She’s terrified. What’s worse is that the game has completely
reset her level all the way down to level one, and she no longer has access to the ga
me’s
menu bar. Yuna momentarily panics and flat-out agonizes
over the fact that the character she worked her butt off to level up is back to level
one. More importantly, she can’t log out! Just then, a message from God pops out in
front of her. It tells her to enjoy the new world she’s
been placed in and that she will learn to love it over time. Is that a promise or a warning? Despite God’s overzealous voice, it’s
pretty hard to say. Suddenly, a wolf jumps out from the forest
and lunges at the s
till-confused Yuna in full speed. She recognizes the beast to be a beginner
monster for noobs, but it can still do some serious damage. Spotting a stick next to her, she uses it
to hit the wall, and much to her surprise, she knocks it dead after just one swing. Because of this, she now realizes that the
bear suit is actually sick with it, but she still can’t accept how ridiculous it makes
her look. She then takes a closer look at the wolf,
and she notices that the body isn’t vanishing, nor is it
dropping any loot. While she’s poking it, a girl’s scream
alerts her, and she quickly follows it to its source. Yuna finds a young girl cornered by a pack
of wolves. She’s visibly trembling in fear with no
way of escaping their clutches. Just as the wolfs lunging at her, Yuna calls
its attention and throws a rock at it. Despite her random aim, she lands a critical
hit. The other wolves scatter, and the girl thanks
Yuna for saving her. But after getting a good look at her, she
gets scared of Yun
a, too, as she thinks that the bear-girl will eat her. Yuna assures her that she isn’t a real paw-paw
by putting her hood down and introducing herself. The girl looks at her in awe before introducing
herself as Fina. She’s been gathering herbs in the forest
to sell so she can buy medicine for her sick mother. Since Yuna’s lost, she asks Fina to show
her to the nearest town, and she agrees. The girl then asks what Yuna plans on doing
with the wolf’s remains, and she gets shocked when Yuna tells h
er that she’ll be leaving
it behind, seeing as she doesn’t have any use for it. Fina informs the unoriented noob that the
creatures there need to be dismantled so they can loot them for their meat and magical stones. She then offers to skin the body for Yuna
before pulling out a knife from her bag like it’s her everyday carry. While she’s skinning the wolf, Yuna criticizes
the game’s unusual update. We gotta hand it to the devs for making everything
realistic, though! It’s just like being an act
ual adventurer
from way back when--it’s frigging troublesome. After dismantling the wolf, Fina takes Yuna
to the city of Crimonia, but is stopped at the gate by a guard who asks for her identification. Being new to this world, Yuna doesn’t have
any ID so the guard tells her to pay a fine. Just then, another message is sent to Yuna,
saying that the money she loves so much in the real world is now being transported to
her in the game. Instead of being grateful, she gets annoyed
at how God’s just c
heerfully sending her these messages like she isn’t trapped in
this game. The small city of Crimonia is filled with
adventurers and townsfolk that live together in peace and harmony. The adventurers can take on quests, hunt creatures,
and keep the villagers protected with their skills and magic. They eventually arrive at the Adventurer’s
Guild where Yuna meets a man named Gentz. Fina calls him uncle since he’s a friend
of her parents and works at the guild as a harvester who also dismantles crea
tures that
the adventurers bring back from their hunt. When Gentz gets over his initial shock towards
Yuna’s fur suit, he assesses her wolf items and is immediately impressed by the amount
she collected. He is also immensely grateful when he finds
out that Yuna saved Fina from the wolves. He then gives Yuna the payment, and she gives
half of it to Fina. Though she insists that she can’t accept
the payment, Yuna argues that she helped her get the materials. Besides, she should use the money for h
er
sick mother. After seeing Fina hesitate, Yuna adds that
she should also be her tour guide. With Gentz encouraging her to accept, Fina
takes the pay and promises to work hard. At the end of the tour, Yuna thanks Fina for
everything she did for her that day by treating her to a meal. The following day, there’s still no exit
in sight for Yuna. Seeing as there’s nothing she can do to
leave, she starts to accept her new life there and decides to test out the full powers of
the bear suit. She goes
to a secluded area in the forest
and tries out all kinds of magic on her skills chart. While training, Yuna discovers that her magic
gets stronger by using a skill called Bear Imagery. The better the image of it in her mind, the
stronger the magic gets. Yuna then goes to the adventurer’s guild
one day and tries to register her identification as an adventurer. Her presence causes a commotion there as everyone
wonders what on earth is a fur—I mean, bear doing there. Yuna pays them no mind and meet
s with the
guild’s receptionist, Helen. While she’s walking the girl through the
procedures, a strong but cocky high-level adventurer named Deboraine interrupts them,
telling Yuna to stop wasting her time since she doesn’t even look like she can beat
a monster. Unmoved, Yuna slyly asks Helen if she’ll
let her register if she beats a goblin—the goblin being Deboraine here. The big guy is livid. “Let’s take this outside!” “Bear puuuuunch.” Right after taking it outside, Yuna folds
Deboraine’s crap
with one hit. And that, folks, is how bear girl here got
to register. When it’s time to fill out her forms, Yuna’s
stumped when it asks her what her job class is. She sheepishly writes that her job class is
‘bear’, and she grows even more sheepish when Helen—albeit incredulously—accepted
that. And bim, bam, boom, guild card acquired! She immediately takes a beginner-level quest,
which is to hunt a pack of wolves. Yuna overdid it just a hair as she returns
with 40 wolves, leaving everyone there
stunned. Gentz is impressed, but he reminds her that
the wolves haven’t been dismantled yet, to which Fina explains that she can’t do
it. He then talks to Yuna in private for a personal
request of his. Gentz explains that Fina’s father has been
long dead and that she’s been working hard to support her sick mother and her sibling. Not liking where this is going, a darkly suspicious
Yuna asks if he’s going after Fina, and Gentz vehemently denies this since she’s
like a daughter to him and accident
ally admits that Fina’s mom has got it going on. Or to be more accurate, he blurted out that
her mom has his heart. Moving on, he adds that since the guild’s
becoming stricter with its rules, he hasn’t been able to give her any more dismantling
jobs so he asks Yuna to hire Fina as her dismantler. Smiling, Yuna accepts, saying that she doesn’t
dislike kids who work hard. When the two girls meet later that day, Yuna
tells Fina that she wants to hire her as her personal dismantler and harvester for
all
of her quests. Fina doesn't believe that someone as ordinary
as her could be of any use to a skilled adventurer. However, Yuna insists that she trusts her
after seeing how dependable she’s been ever since they met. At the end, a teary Fina smiles warmly at
Yuna and the two shake hands, officially becoming partners. One fateful day, a kid named Kai is speeding
through the city’s outer forest on horseback. He bursts through the doors of the city’s
central building, his face scuffed and worn.
“Please, help! My village is being attacked by a Black Viper!” Silence sweeps across the room of townspeople
and adventurers, a perturbed expression crossing their faces. A young woman asks if he’s sure that it’s
a Black Viper, making him cry out that no normal viper can swallow livestock and adults
in one gulp. More worried now, she regretfully tells him
that they can’t accept his request. Incredulous, the boy asserts that he collected
all the money in the village, and if it’s still not enough,
he’ll do anything to make
up the difference. She clarifies that no one there can take on
such a beast since all the high-level adventurers were called away on separate missions out
of the city. Though he’s crushed to hear this, he refuses
to give up, not when his fellow villagers are about to get eaten by the beast. His desperate calls for help ring throughout
the guild, but not a single adventurer is even willing to look him in the eye, much
less risk their lives for such a dangerous quest. Th
is brings Kai to tears, but just as he’s
despairing over what he’ll tell the villagers, Yuuna walks up to him. With a chipper smile. She asks where the village is. The crowd is stunned by this. At this point, Yuna’s quite known for her
interesting appearance. And while being an adventurer is no walk in
the park, she treats it like a nice stroll. She’s also maintained her carefree demeanor
and she prefers to work alone. The boy is flabbergasted at first, but his
shock immediately turns to anger a
fter taking a good look at Yuna’s outfit. He thinks that she’s making fun of his plights,
so Yuna casually guarantees that she can help him whether he believes in her or not. Concerned about her relaxed behavior, the
guild lady warns Yuna that a black viper might be too dangerous for her to defeat on her
own since it can grow up to fifty feet long and swallow people whole. To put her at ease, Yuna offers to just observe
the creature and report back any useful information to the high-level advent
urers when they return. Since it’s better than doing nothing, the
boy has no choice but to put everyone’s lives in this bear-girl’s paws. Kai wants to go with Yuna, and though she
tells him that he’ll only get in the way, he stubbornly insists that he can help by
guiding her to the quickest route to the village. Yuna thinks that it’s best she gets there
ASAP so she agrees, and from the bear-shaped puppets on her hands, she summons two huge
bears. A black bear named Kumayuru and a white bear
name
d Kumakyuu suddenly appear in front of Kai, shocking the boy. As Yuna settles on top of a very happy Kumayuru,
she assures Kai that he won’t fall off since the bears are magically designed to keep their
riders safe on their backs. With that, an unwilling Kumakyuu gets Kai
on his back. Kai goes ‘Aaaaaah!’, bears go ‘Brrrrrr’. They soon take a quick break to let Kai rest,
and out of nowhere, he apologizes to Yuna for his earlier assumptions. Given her powerful summons, he realizes that
he judged h
er too soon. Though Yuna’s a little weirded out that
he’s already showing his soft side, she still turns to him with a grateful expression
and tells him that she understands why he’d doubt her. She offers Kai to stay behind and sleep, but
he’s adamant about guiding her to the quickest route. With a smile, Yuna inwardly comments that
the kids in that world are strong. And so, they continue their journey without
stopping. Upon arrival, they notice that the village
is eerily quiet, no noise can be
heard and there is no one in sight. But using her bears, Yuna detects that the
villagers are still there. Kai quietly brings Yuna to his house, where
they’re welcomed by the distraught face of his father as he sits before his ailing
wife. Once they’re inside, Kai’s father solemnly
tells them about what happened – two villagers tried to escape but were eaten by the viper. It’s purely by luck that Kai even got to
escape in the first place. He then turns his attention to Yuna, and when
he finds out
that this bear mascot’s the adventurer who offered to help defeat the
viper, all he can do is let out a bitter laugh, even telling her that she might as well go
home. Unmoved, Yuna says that she’s the one who
decides if she can beat the viper or not, and seeing the no-nonsense look in her eyes,
Kai’s father relents and gives her information on the beast when she asked for it. The Black Viper just randomly appears, and
sometimes, it passes through the streets of their town. Loud noise attracts i
t, which makes escaping
a difficult feat. Yuna then thanks him for the information and
leaves the house, but not without casually telling the family to use her as bait if things
go south. As Yuna’s heading out, Kai chases after
her and apologizes for his father’s behavior. Everyone there is at their limit. Yuna dismisses his worries and assures him
that she’d be worried, too, if a person in a bear costume answered her call for help. She also assures him that she wants hardworking
kids to be rewa
rded. Seems like hardworking kids are close to Yuna’s
heart. Yuna then embarks and after following the
Viper’s tracks for some time, the trail ends, and she finds herself standing in the
middle of nowhere. Without any warning, the serpent breaks out
from under the ground and strikes at her. As always, Yuna isn’t the slightest bit
fazed by it. While maintaining a calm disposition, she
uses all kinds of ice and fire magic and even physical attacks on the beast, but none of
them are working. Eventu
ally, after a quick bout of assessment
and trial-and-error, she uses her fire magic to burn its body from the inside. The viper has been slain, and Kai’s village
can now find peace again. On the way back Yuna sees Kai running towards
her. Surprisingly, he planned on sacrificing himself
as bait so she can return to the guild and report any information she can to help save
his village. Kai is truly something else – he’s willing
to lay down his life for a mere chance, an unlikely possibility. Once
more, Yuna comments that the kids in
this world really are brave. She pats his head but tells him not to give
up his life so easily. They then return to the village, and everyone
is in awe. How can a girl in a bear costume singlehandedly
take down such a dangerous creature? Still, they all gather around for a small
celebration in honor of their hero, Yuna. Kai’s father even apologizes to her that
evening. When the next day comes, Yuna promises Kai
that she’ll come visit again. This earns her a s
mile from the dauntless
little boy, and with that, the two part ways. Yuna’s bizarre adventure is far from over,
but it’s certainly shaping up to be a rewarding one. Maybe the mysterious God was right – she
may very well learn to love living in the World of Fantasy.
Comments
Her grandpa doesn't pay half her rent. He's just a cosigner, which means he has agreed to take the debt if she doesn't pay. She's obviously the one with the higher income, though, since she's paying for her parents' vacation.
The recap didn't really mention this, but apparently the protagonist is a self-made millionaire outside of VR. Hence why she seems to be a shut-in. Yeah, it's just a fictional story not meant to be read too deeply into, but the explanation behind her independence seemed... a bit of an asspull, personally. "Guys, how do we justify her having the time and freedom to do all this?" "Uhhhh... she's... she's a adolescent stock market god. Yes." May have been better if they just didn't bring up the issue. Anyway, aside from the bear theme, it's a pretty standard isekai. Still a fun watch.
I just love how you kinda put your own comments in there. Makes me laugh and it feels very genuine based on this wacky anime.
Aint no way she started from Zero. Her outfit, as dorky as it is, is OP with no limits and even in her real world she was rich due to knowing how stock works. She LITERALLY paid off her parents to live alone with no school.
The moment he mentioned about the wall and it’s citizens living peacefully I immediately thought of: on that day humanity received a grim reminder
this anime is the literal definiton of „don't judge a book by it's cover“
The voice over sound effects are top notch 10/10
5:49 "Cuz everyone wonders, what on earth is a FUR-mmm, I mean- BEAR doing there."
the "bear punch" won me over
10:11 Lmao thank you for making me laugh <3
The thumbnail makes this look like a whole different anime, but don’t judge a book by a cover they said so I watched this and it’s a good anime
If you watch this start episode 1 at like 20:42 once she's back in the real world. After you finish episode 3 you can go back and watch it. The truth is it makes zero chronological sense where that part is because her VRMMO avatar didn't look like that, so it takes place after she's isekai'd. Just ignore the other scene from 2:18 to 2:30 in episode 1 that briefly cuts back to the real world. Episode 4 picks up directly after the events of episode 1.
this is one of my favorite animes its just a fun and simple story and funny i really hope we get a season 2
I remember this one, can’t believe it actually got an anime now. I’m so happy haha
YES ITS HERE one of my favorite animes i thought no one would cover this anime
