hello I'm Matt from canvas design school so this is our 100th episode can you believe that when I mentioned this to Mel I found her she suggested that we do a takeover of the bi-weekly or staff meeting so you're about to see behind the scenes on the canva TV set what we like to call CTV about how we celebrate Milestones release new products and just generally catch up as a company it's a longer one but I really hope you like it [Music] hi I'm Rachel from canva design school well then let's get o
n to it [Music] anyway hey check this out excuse me hello did you find this video helpful please like and share before you run off remember to subscribe to this channel for more great videos like this one [Music] and thanks for watching [Music] so a very special episode in today in fact it's our 100th episode of design school so what shall we do to celebrate this hundredth episode we actually have Matt and enza here in the studio welcome so how do you think that we should celebrate how do you re
spond when your CEO asks you a question about how you should celebrate the 100th episode thankfully Cliff saved the day bringing on the gong [Applause] so [Music] I invite you to come down and who would like to go first slow little one all right [Music] [Applause] yes and you know pass the bats on to has all right let's see what you got [Applause] great job great job [Music] good morning good afternoon and good evening welcome to this very special awards ceremony I'm Lotus and I'm Nick and we're
thrilled to be here today to recognize and honor the hard work and achievements of all of our nominees congratulations to them all whether you win or lose you should face it your winners in our book I've even worn my dad's tuxedo today our first category is best dressed and the winner is sit down Matt it's not you it's NADA in a in a video All About preparing for Christmas it only seemed right to transform her into NADA Claus congratulations nada now while we're on the topic of fashion the next
category is the most overdressed on set [Music] John in a tutorial all about designing your own hoodie obviously you need to put all of them on all at once congratulations here's your medal yeah it's heavy so the fastest recording is awarded to someone who shot a whole video in one shot can you believe it 12 minutes and 47 seconds it's Alex [Applause] come on it's a video all about making Bingo cards so it's competitive congratulations Alex take an award I would like to thank my mom um my neigh
bor Susan my name's Alex thanks Sally you can take a seat out got time for that and now the moment you've all been waiting for it's the most watched video and the award goes to would you look at that it's me I was positive that I was going to get one of those next year our community are using our product every day and they have questions for the team behind the product here are the top five questions that they asked who is the most unexpected person to tell or you that they've used canva or the
weirdest place that you've come across a template he'd like to take that on the couch do you want me to go first go for it well we're up in Darwin which is I think the most northern city in Australia not too long ago and I was getting a refreshing refreshing ice cream because it's incredibly hot up there and behind the man serving the ice cream with these beautiful designs offering specials to purchase more ice creams and uh and I was just Bedazzled by these amazing designs and I said to the man
said is this your business he suggested and I said where'd you create those signs and he said canva and I was just I'm blown away and then not only did he stop there he said it's not just me that uses canva he said the whole Darwin uses canva every small business owner uses canva and it's amazing and so the rest of the time in Darwin everywhere we looked his camera canva canva canva should we throw a chat audience and hear about yeah where have you found a canva template the coolest weirdest pl
ace not necessarily weird but it is very much wedding season in my Social Circle at the moment and I'm getting multiple wedding invites and RSVPs and I could honestly say that probably about 99 of them are canber templates great here any other stories to share up the front that's actually just inspired me um because my friend is a wedding florist and she said that she has started to have people bring in presentations of what they want like all of their this is my dress and this is what the flowe
r like the bridesmaids will be wearing and this is the color combos that I want and everything's on camera and she's like canvas taking over but it's also apparently saving her life and it's she said it's so easy to get inspo now one mood board at a time on to our next question any plans on adding a gradient option to canva I know this one is a question that you get asked a lot absolutely so this has been one of our most requested features so if you haven't done so already check out your account
and we might have a little surprise install for you what is it did you listen to the question okay it's gradients it's gradients let's quickly show you how to use gradients in canva with the shape selected go here and choose the color hit the add new color and you should see two headings solid color and gradient select gradient and now you can choose the colors and style if you want more than two just add another here [Music] make one transparent by clicking and dragging here great when you're
creating a colored overlay alternatively scroll down the swatches until you see the gradients that's a quick way to get to the most popular ones now back to the show I love this question canvas being such an awesome and much needed resource driving so much creativity in our schools is there a plan to keep canva Pro free for educators and students so today's mostly been a good news day but unfortunately this is where we get to the bad news section so we're actually cutting our free education acco
unts for all students I think this is really funny but it's actually it's actually not it's going to be free forever and it's something that we believe very very deeply in the whole one of the things that we like most about canva is being able to empower creativity everywhere in the world regardless of your socioeconomic status regardless of how much money you have in regardless of whatever wherever you are in the world we want to empower you and your creativity and so it will be free for school
forever in fact we have 50 000 schools using canva to date um which is pretty extraordinary so the next question um is from Nikki and Nikki would like to know besides being a world-class design tool that everyone can use what would you like canvas lasting Legacy to be we have a two-step plan we've called it simple but it isn't really that simple to build one of the most valuable companies in the world and to do the most good we can do and we're going to be working towards this for decades to co
me to truly take the power of canva the platform the economic value that we've created and to be able to do good things in the world to help all sorts of people across the globe is going to be a long destination that we're going to be working towards for many years to come but really excited by the steps that we've taken so far so having 350 000 non-profits using canva Pro for free through our non-profit program seeing the impact of having her in schools but there's just so much more that we can
do and we will be doing over the decades to come okay next question is from Chachi they had a lot of questions but there was one that we loved what are your top three tips for creators that is a really great question in fact I'm going to phone a friend for this one I'm going to phone a friend who's the original creator of our very first template also our co-founder Cameron Adams welcome to Tasmania the land of the wombat I just happen to have one on hand uh that is a great question top three ti
ps for creators well number one would have to be keep it simple there are so many people that will use your content and they'll use it for a million and one different things so keeping it simple helps it to be flexible to everyone's needs number two I would say is put on your user hats power users going to interact with your content how are they going to change and adapt it and number three is engage in the Creator Community it is full of helpful tips workshops and you can even get creative Dire
ction all designed to help you succeed that would be my top three tips for all creators a friend that was great okay thank you no worries our final question is do you still use canva every day and what do you create in Keva I use canva every single day including on the weekends because I make a lot of photo books and videos and but every day for work from presentations to docs to pitch decks to mock-ups to just absolutely everything I pretty much live in canva to be honest so the answer is yes y
es yes the answer is very much yes we thought this was such a great question so we actually asked our team around the world what they create in Canberra a junior video editor from the Philippines one of the best ways to use canva on my day-to-day work is using the video editing tool it helps you to create videos easily plus the awesome transitions in just a matter of minutes hi y'all Lena here from Houston Texas I use canva every day for the whiteboarding tool to embed links jam out my thoughts
and collaborate easily with my peers all around the world hello I am Alejandro from Sydney I frequently use canva to create cards for my co-workers using the photo effects including the background removal hey my name is robs from Manila and one way I use canva is writing my to-do list on canva docs every day hi I'm Anna from London and I help our customers make their camera presentations more meaningful by adding beautiful and interactive flourish charts and Maps you should try it hello there I'
m Ed from Sydney Australia we use canva to create some of the beautiful content you'll find in our Facebook groups and communities and we also use canva docs to house all that competition terms and conditions hey I'm Ivy Herr from China Vibe team and since I use canadoc the magic is happen I just feel the text is alive and looks more interesting I I guess here from the Philippines and I make a lot of coffee and the same I use members Montague to introduce our menu for today I'm Joe from the Sout
hern Highlands in Australia in design school my team and I use canva for just about everything maybe it's easier if we just show you hey team thanks for jumping on at short notice so the brief is to make a canva tutorial for canva nods about making a design tutorial video the camera notes yeah it's confusing I know um and the other thing is this is actually the tutorial right now we are recording okay um how about we just start brainstorming I'll put a whiteboard Link in the chat [Music] [Applau
se] [Music] thank you hi I'm Joe from canva design school today I'm going to show you how I use canva to make the tutorial you're watching right now that's right we made a tutorial about how to make a tutorial so hold on to your hats the first thing we needed to do was to get the team involved and brainstorm this awesome idea on a whiteboard we decided to show how well the visual work Suite products work together in a slightly unhinged self-referential parody of our very own design tutorials sou
nds good let's go [Music] so we open up canva docs to start writing the script we use magic right to kick start the writing process just hit the slash key type in a prompt and let magic right do the rest then we iterate and improve the script until things start to make sense well sort of once the script is ready our designers start working on the titles and graphic elements for the tutorial this part is super easy we just hit the convert button in the menu bar to automatically create a presentat
ion from the script like this once we have a presentation ready our designers edit and arrange the pages to follow the structure outlined in the script then they apply our design school brand kit this will keep everything looking consistent what a lifesaver next they add in the graphic elements required for each scene and refine the layout of our title slides before handing the project over to our video editing Legends [Music] converting a presentation to a video is amazingly easy just click the
duration button in the bottom left corner to switch the thumbnail view into a timeline this makes it easy for the video editing team to add new scenes and adjust the timing of the video adding animation in canva video is easy too we use the rise animation for our titles and adjust the timing like this our screen recorders added in their screen flows and now I'm recording this voiceover using the recording studio feature like this final steps we added the intro sequence and the outro then some m
usic and now we export the tutorial from the share menu here [Music] and now finally to share it with the world we decided to embed the video on a canva website just drop the video into this Frame give it a clever title and maybe a photo to entice people to click [Music] hit publish pick a domain name and that's it [Music] a tutorial about using canva in canva with canva is live for the world to see what a whirlwind the website and video are live right now so if you want to watch this tutorial a
gain just go in this QR code and check it out thanks for watching foreign thank you so much Joe that was incredibly cool to see to make this celebration episode extra special I thought we would welcome some of our favorite creators behind one of my favorite my absolute personal favorite new feature to the stage Welcome Matt and Ash thanks Nell hey everyone I'm Matt I'm Ash we are really excited to share a new featuring canva we've been working hard on called create an animation we've taken the c
omplexity out of animating it's now mind-blowingly easy to combine the joy of play with design and storytelling perfect for interactive slides or creating content that really pops let's create an animation story on how Ash and I got here today not on how we actually developed create animation but how we literally got here we came all the way from Melbourne to here in Sydney and I'm going to throw over to Ash for a live demo telling the story with create an animation thank you Matt so I suppose t
here are really three main steps to creating an animation so we need to select an element we need to go to the animate panel and then we can pretty much start drawing so I'll show you here on my mobile device for very clammy hands I'm going to do my best not to thanks all right so we select the element scroll across to animate all the way across to create and I'm just going to drag out little faces here on the road I'm going to hit some traffic here so a little bit slower I'm going to drive acro
ss the field because we're running a bit late and as easy as that you can see as well that it's actually thank you yeah you can see the animations followed exactly as I drew it on the screen as well so let's do it again for this time I'm going to go across to another scene where Matt and I are on a plane literally on top of a plane in this case yeah it's very irresponsible of us so I'm just going to select the element go to animate all the way across to create and I'm just going to draw my path
a pilot was a bit Reckless so he's doing some donuts here so I'm not super happy with the way the plane's moving aside from the fact it's doing donuts but I'm gonna actually select this steady option to make the animation a bit more steady I'm just going to reduce the speed a little bit as well and that's much better so thank you so man I were a bit sneaky and we pre-prepared a couple of scenes earlier to add to our journey so let's go through from starts finish our journey from Melbourne to Syd
ney so here we are driving on the roads getting some traffic driving across a field we are doing donuts in the sky it's worth noting everything here was created in create animation as well no other kind of animations applied smooth Landing not just yet here we are on our way to the studio here in Sydney and proof that we made it that's create an animation thank you thank you Ash for the great demo and I want to give a really big kudos to the team for all of their hard work and bringing create an
imation to life I'd really especially like to thank Steve for solving some really challenging engineering problems Tiana for all of her hard work and marketing support and helping launch our beta and Liam for his original design vision for create animation we would love for you to play with animation today and share what you made back to you Mel thank you so much for joining us in the studio it is the coolest feature do have a play next up my favorite segment they're all my favorite segments but
this is my real favorite segment is we're going to have a design battle let's get ready to rumble [Applause] uh today's challenge is a team time trial and I will be your host your MC uh John we have two teams of four canvanots here in the studio today on the couch team we will have Cliff Rachel Gino Sana and on team desk we will have Mel JB Nina and Michael [Music] here they come there's no eye in team remember and second place is the first loser our competitors will face off in pairs testing t
heir design skills and how fast they can work in canva will tally points for each round until one team claims Sweet Victory will be us are we ready yelling abuse down to our slowly little couch team we'll see who's the true Victor at the end of the day please everyone here in the studio and around the world on stream welcome our first challenges Mel and cliff are you ready I said are you ready let's stop messing around and get into round one we'll start with two activities on contrast and Alignm
ent challenges are you ready oh already started all right let's go straight in there first one first activity is on contrast breathability and accessibility are the key values here you want to make sure it can be read display fonts are hard to read oh we've got a change in the text a changing the text from the couch team looking pretty good though I think these are pretty good we'll move on on to the next one oh and couch team straight in there on the alignment challenge making things look profe
ssional and tidy lining those letters up up and test demons take it as Sean cut and there you go that's it this team takes the first round round one done four desk Team all right I just found a new feature moving on to round two challenges are you ready this two this round is about hierarchy and staying tidy off we go get stuck in there just uh just teams off to a flying start couch team's in there looking pretty good hierarchy is super important to give this the reader a sense of importance tel
ls the eye where to go size position oh look at that the couch seems oh oh These fonts are looking kind of similar oh we're almost there Sun Tzu's looking good how are we looking guys oh desk team maybe that it's not quite hierarchical for me that's looking pretty good I think we've got some hierarchy three levels of hierarchy points to death team but we're on to the next activity next activity is staying tidy you've got to tidy up the page guys evenly space those little duckies use the position
and tidy up till bang done straight away points for death team [Applause] and our next challenge is straight in there all right round three is consistency and less is more first challenge is about consistency get these doggies consistent hard to gather up the dogs and make them consistent but let's see how they go use the adjustment sliders if you're in trouble uh if your design is messy make things look the same and it's a point for this team oh that was right down the line and the less is mor
e alright here we go as Coco Chanel said before you leave the house look in the mirror and take one thing off it's always better to be underdressed Simplicity is the key there we go points for couch team couch team with the points all right and we're straight into round four final challenges final round all right so now what have we got come on how are we looking here we're going for font selection and grabbing attention hold on one second here we go all right straight in fun selection the key t
hing with fonts is they must match the message or the message won't get across how do you make someone stop you don't do it with a fancy font or lowercase font that's it oh there we go oh I think that's points for couch points for couch and on to the next activity grabbing attention you gotta grab the eye create a focal points you need to animate the Hat that's it uh color will get some attention or animation how are we looking oh it's coming right down to the wire make that hat move oh oh they'
re getting in there with their hat how's that hat looking is it moving yet is the head moving oh that's moving oh I think the monkey was animated the Hat's not moving the monkey's animated oh get down to it it's we're still on guys we're still going gotta animate that hat oh it's animated points for desks well maybe we look oh that's tight that was a tight little competition all right thank you very much challenges I think we've uh I think we've finished the challenge thanks everybody for watchi
ng The Challenge this has been fantastic well we need to tell you the points and I had trouble keeping count so I think it was us let's ask the audience I think what do we reckon do you think desk team won what do you think couch team one I think that's dusk [Applause] sucking up to the boss you chose well thanks everybody thanks everyone for watching The Challenge thank you competitors thank you to our challenges thank you thank you oh hi you're still here wasn't that crazy like I can't promise
our other videos are going to be that wild but you should absolutely check out our other playlists there are tons of videos about all aspects of canva this one's one of my recent favorites oh and can you do me one extra small favor I personally would love to know what you thought about this episode drop your comments below and let me know and any questions drop them there as well and one of our team will get back to you ASAP see you next time when I try and come up with something as exciting as

We need more to do with text since it’s an important part of our graphic design work we need inner and outer glow, inner and outer shadows, multiple outlines, more options for shadows, texture in text also be able to add image in text not only add image in text frames but to add to the text itself, we also need some sort of 3D text and manipulations also don’t forget gradients in text also
