Hi parents welcome to my dvija, In today’s video we will learn fifteen out of the box activities, That you can perform at home using things available with you at home, That will help satiate the child’s hungry brain, and press the speed up button for the child’s brain development process. Let’s find out, A child between the ages 0 to 6 months, is mostly occupied in which activities? Routine activities, but in today’s video we will learn the must do activities with zero to six month old kids. Act
ivities? At this time the child is busy pooping, Feeding and trying to get to know this new world, then what is the purpose of these new activities? All of you please remember, the child’s brain has approximately 2 lakh 50 thousand new neural connections being made every second. Yes obviously, due to the help provided by these things the brain development occurs. The fastest development happens in the womb, and during the first 6 months, and then a little slower as they get older. So the first s
ix months, it is the best to give the child the most exposure, the more brain stimulation the better for the child. It is called, the baby’s hungry brain. Today’s video’s specialty is that we will get to learn activities that won’t require costly equipment. At the same time we will explore certain things that are available in the market which could be beneficial for your child. So let’s learn about top 15 activities for a baby’s brain stimulation and development, between 0 to 6 months. The first
activity is a very important activity, Listening, the more you work with the auditory skills of a child the better their grasping power becomes. This you can provide to the child in different forms. The first activity is Read out loud Read books for the child and read them loudly, with difference in tone, in different pitches, using different languages you can read in. A very simple thing, “Akbar was standing in a the courtyard and he saw Birbal and thought about a question for which he was loo
king for an answer” You can read like this or you can read like, “Akbar was sitting in a big courtyard, and sitting over there he saw Birbal, and his eyes sparkled because he knew that Birbal was the person who could answer the questions lingering in his head”. Does that create some emotion within you? Yes it does. Why? Because children can very easily grasp different emotions, tones and pitches. So sit with your child and read books with them. You can perform all these activities for a child as
small as a week old. Read different genres of books Baby books, Barbie books, Mythology books, Akbar and Birbal, Ramayan Mahabharat Tenali Rama, Different types of books because every different thing will contain new emotions. The second activity we should do with our children is Singing Your voice doesn’t need to be perfect, you don’t need to get the lyrics right but yes, when you sing to the child two factors are very important, music and rhythm, the child is used to these and it awakens dif
ferent parts of the child’s brain. That’s why, different kinds of music, English music, A lullaby, Kid’s songs And rhymes It is very important for you to hum them. Many parents usually play rhymes on their devices and keep it before their kids. Please remember, we don’t expose the child to any screen till 2 years. So preferably, for a kid the best voice they can hear is their parents, in the entire world because the find it familiar since the time they were in the womb. That is why you should si
ng to them, whenever you like while bathing then or massaging them. In whatever form you like. But it is important to sing to them. The third activity is introducing the child to Alphabets and vowels Swar or yenjan are basics, which is like vowels in English, it is called swar and yenjan in Marathi and Hindi, which are the basis of any language. Sanskrit is the base of many languages across the world, culturally children were taught Sanskrit as a core language, with resulted in increasing the ch
ild’s grasping power. So you just have to make a sequence out of the alphabets in Hindi and Marathi. You can choose three letters to do every day, to introduce your child to. The most important impact for the children is that it will develop their listening and most importantly their linguistic development. It will strengthen the child’s ability to learn languages. The next activity Numerical It is very important to introduce your children to numbers from 1 to 10 in at least 10 languages. Again
it will help in the child’s listening sense and auditory sense. On the other hand it also helps improve their linguistic skills, if you use different languages. Marathi numbers English numbers Sanskrit numbers If you search it up on Google you will easily find the numbers in 10 different languages. Please learn them yourself and recite them to your kid everyday. All the activities i have shown you in this video will take approximately 2 to 3 minutes, you can do them in different time slots accor
ding to your convenience, and it’ll definitely help. The next activity is Vocabulary development Talking to your kid in different languages is very helpful. Many parents ask if that would confuse the child. No, it doesn’t. Like our maid talks in Marathi, my cultural language is Gujarati, my in-laws speak marvadi and my brother speaks in English. This is already 4 to 5 different languages, so if you expose your children to different languages at home itself, it will help a lot in their brain dev
elopment. Next activity you can do is Follow the leader What do you mean by follow the leader. You tiny kid, only six months old, has weird movements. So basically your child plays as the leader and you copy them. You can lay beside them and copy them or the best thing is, when the child lays on its back you learn ahead on your knees and hands, kind of like an animal pose. When they make faces or winks their eyes or plays with hands. You can try to copy their exact movements. If you own a rockin
g chair or an upright chair or a pram you can place them on a 30 degree angle, so that your vision and the child’s visions align. Remember you can’t be to far from the child while doing this, you have to stay in close proximity with the child and then play the activities with them, so the baby becomes the leader and you copy them. It is a fun activity and it will expose the kid to raise connection in their movements and the parents expressions. Next activity Dancing The baby being able to move w
ith their body to rhythms, to music will help develop them rhythmically. So play you favorite music and hold your child close, you can also place them in the carrier on your chest, hold their hand and do a few dance steps with the child. You can dance to a rhyme, a song or whatever you like. They enjoy this dancing activity a lot because they are familiar with rhythmic movement from the womb. The next activity is Massage We have already done a video about massage on my dvija. Morning massage Ni
ght massage Colic relief massage Cough relief massage Massage to calm the child down Constipation massage All this you can find in the mydvija video. Massage is touch therapy for the child. To make them feel secure, it is necessary. A number of scientific research states that another name for security to a child is touch. It is important for a child to receive this from both parents. That’s why it is preferable if both the parents divide the task, for example if the mother does the morning massa
ge then the father could do the night massage. If you have a helping hand for it, you could do the other massage together. It will hundred percent help your child to connect with you, to bond strongly with you and to feel 100% security. Next activity you can do is Mirror play You can stand in front of a mirror with your child and Please, it is a myth, that if you show your child a mirror it will affect his teething. This is a complete myth. Scientifically it is called mirror play. The child look
s in the mirror and sees you and itself, you can show them eyes point to your eyes then the child’s eyes on the mirror and then gently touch their eyes, the same with other features. This sort of mirror play exposure is very important, by this the get to know themselves greatly and you too. It helps in their overall development. The next activity is The tracking activity For this activity you need a bright colour, like red or blue, soft toy or ball, you lay the child on it’s back and touch the b
all on their cheeks and forehead to grab their attention to the thing. Then keeping it in close proximity, you move the object from left to right or right to left. It’s called tracking, your child will move his neck and eyes tracking the object. You will observe this improves the child’s following skills, body mind coordination and brain development. Next activity is Baby sit ups If any muscle is developing you should exercise with it to strengthen the muscle So lay your child on the back and p
lace your fingers between their hands and slowly pull them up. If the child is a week old, it won’t lift up at all except the shoulder according to your strength. Once the child is about 2 months old their head will lift a bit and it will return on the mattress. Eventually the child will be able to hold on for a few seconds. Do this exercise with your child everyday. It’s a very good activity. It develops the child’s hand muscles and neck muscles, it will overall strengthen the spinal muscles. I
learned an extremely good quote from my teacher, “If you don’t give an opportunity, how will it strengthen?”. A child is mostly sleeping the entire time, so all these muscles are only exercised during massage and stretches. With the help of these activities the muscles strengthen and develop properly. Home made bubbles Soap bubbles is a children favorite no matter how old they grow. So, you create bubbles around your child, preferably home made bubbles, you can use hand wash for it. Please reme
mber the child’s hands should not touch the bubbles, nor the bubbles should touch the baby, because it’s soap. It’s not healthy if it enters their eyes or nose, so keep a distance while creating the bubbles but make sure they can see the bubbles. This will improve the child’s vision, visualization skills and observation skills. Next activity is Peek a boo You can do it like this with your hands, or with a book or board. It is the best activity. It’s basically lost and find, this activity helps w
ith security to the child. Because it shows the child that if something isn’t present before my eyes, does not mean that the thing is not there. It’s not before my eyes and now it is. This teaches a very important life lesson to your child, that some things that aren’t in my visual proximity are still around me. It helps build the child’s sense of security. Next activity- Flying activity, Flying activity, this is a very fun activity, you can hold your baby in your hands. So basically, how small
kids, can you do this activity with? The kid can be as small as 5 to 10 days old and it’s like “tummy time” where from behind the kid tries to lift their legs and from the front they try to raise their head and as the kids grow their confidence grows. This is a very nice activity where the kid sleeps on its tummy and you exactly in front of your kid sleep in the same position and copy your kid. As it lifts its head you lift your head. You can spread your arms like wings and your kid will observe
you and might do the same. As soon as the kid’s neck gets a firm hold, you can firmly hold your kid from the center(their tummy) and give them a round as if they are flying with you. Usually you can do this flying activity in the air with your kid after they turn 3 months and in the beginning you can do it on the bed. This flying activity helps in the strengthening of the neck, their observation skills increase and the kid’s body mind Co ordination also improves. LAST ACTIVITY This activity is
exposing your child to natural colors and textures. What are natural colors around you? Grass, it’s green sky it’s blue tomato red color and just like that any other things you may have laying around in your house for example banana, yellow color apple red color dragon fruit pink color strawberries red color green vegetables green color lemon Yellow color. So like this there are many different colors and objects that you can show your kid and make them touch it. By this the kid’s skill to rela
te to objects of the world increases a lot. Do remember! For these 15 activities you don’t need anything from outside the house everything should already be in your house, you can easily do all this with your kid in the house. Now if you have bought anything for your kid like flashcards or texture books you can most definitely use them as well. But don’t forget there are many textures that are already in nature and in your house. Making your kid touch and feel things is very important. Thankyou

Hi Shreya I'm a new Grandma and must say that i appreciate your useful list of things to do for a newborn to 6 months baby. I would like to add an important activity that a new mother should especially do with her baby, and that is sunning the baby and in the process, sunning herself. Nowadays we notice many cases of Vitamin D deficiency, so this could be another addition to your very good list.
