good evening everyone let's get right to breaking news and a major earthquake across the Pacific in Taiwan within the last hour the islands East Coast hit hard by first a 7.4 then a few moments later a 6.5 this is near the city of hallan it's about 100 miles Southeast of the Capitol Taipei we have a live view of taipe where it's just past 9 on Wednesday morning things look fairly normal there traffic is moving the building in the foreground taipe 101 the green one one of the tallest buildings in
the world the episenter much much further to the southeast we're getting early reports of damage there including collapsed buildings meanwhile officials have also issued a Tsunami alert for the okanawa island group one of those of course home to a major US Airbase there are reports of at least one wave hitting some small islands of Japan though we want to caution you the scale of that right now remains unclear meteorologist Joe rer tracking the very latest for us Joe well David that earthquake
struck just about an hour ago and like you said there's been a series of very strong earthquakes over there the strongest being a 7.5 and then shortly afterwards a 6.5 magnitude earthquake again we're paying very close attention as well as the tsunami warnings center to see if there is any watches warnings potentially for the West Coast right now that's not the case the threat will be over near Japan and Taiwan like you just said but again so far there's no watches and warnings along the west co
