The catch phrase, life isn't fair, seems to sum up the feeling of those remembering all that Tara Gulski was and did. For more Local News from WLUC: https://www.uppermichiganssource.com/ For more YouTube Content: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0VdQ0qx4RpethtRWqjkSCA

I'm very Community oriented person and I think that for the 906 Adventure team what we're doing is we're helping build our community so it's a cliche but you know today's youth are tomorrow's leaders right so that's what we're working on we're working on kids and we're building resiliency and confidence and helping them step outside the box because at some point they're going to be the adults in charge and uh we want to have a really strong community of kids who are also Community oriented when
they become adults that was Tara gluski the adventure coordinator for the 906 Adventure team she was killed in a crash on January 19th we wanted to share that video with you all to get a sense of who she was and what she was about uh she was your partner in crime with the 906 Adventure team and uh certainly a big loss being felt um watching that feeling everything you felt in the last couple of weeks um how are you remembering Tara we're going to remember Tara this same way she lived and that's
through action you know it's been a tough couple weeks obviously yeah um I probably fielded more than 500 messages um but that that is reflective of the impact that she had in the community um we're here for everybody as they work through it you know we're continuing to work through it but the best what she would want is for us to show up and keep doing what she did and what we need to do yeah and you know we talk about these you and I have had so many conversations about the hard things in life
um it's it's sort of what um binds us together right it's it's uh unfortunate commonality I think that we all share but as we experience these moments if we experience them together there is something really beautiful and special that can come from it yeah you we have a lot of catchphrases with 906 Adventure team um the one that keeps coming to mind in the last couple weeks is life isn't fair the world isn't safe there is no Finish Line um people when they hear that they think it sounds really
dark but the truth is life isn't fair and the world isn't safe and in you know in in I guess regard to tera's loss there is no Finish Line means we're going to make sure she's never forgotten her work will continue to be done we're going to emulate our work in the way she would have done it uh and therefore she will always be with us so has this changed your mission has it Amplified your mission has it reignited it I mean you're a passionate person you've been a passionate person but now you're
doing it for somebody who holds a huge piece of their heart I mean if they thought we were going hard before yeah they haven't seen anything yet yeah so how will you do that what will what does that look like I know and I know you're probably just starting to put that together um I you know I think it was reflected immediately in in the days that followed the accident um I was inundated with people who want to pick up the ball and run with it uh and the beauty to what the organization has done i
s we've we've never uh based it on one or two people we've always sort of been building this with the understanding that somebody could be lost I actually hired Tara and I told her two things when I hired her I'm hiring you in case I get hit by a bus and the second thing is I'm hiring you to do the things I don't want to do so she was really a contingency plan in case something happened to me but 5 years down the road we were a contingency plan for each other yeah uh and that's what we're going
to do and I know you have the polar rooll coming up up February 17th thank you um and so that has become an event to celebrate her M and to do hard things but to carry her yeah I think whether you're fat biking and snowshoeing or not you should show up at the high school next uh you know Saturday the 17th and I think you should be there be part of it we're going to be there all day it's really a way to celebrate her to come together to know you're not alone and and trying to work through this lo
ss we retired her we retired 906 the the number plate yeah um and honor her uh that plate will be carried in future Races by somebody who would like to take that with them and bring it across the Finish Line each year yeah so as you continue your work and your mission with kids how do you explain this to them how do you take that and keep going you know I think for kids in particular which Tara loved and she was committed to is you don't control in life what happens to you but you certainly cont
rol how you react to it and and the way you show up uh and I think it's important right now that we're very intentional in the way we show up every day uh and continue to model and lead by example for the kids and the adults around us and I just want to end um reiterating the fact that she was uh a kind giving human that gave so much and you know it has been an outpouring of of love and support for her and her family for all of you and it was because of what she gave that that gift of something
inside of her and you know if we can do something today to um carry that forward just be good to each other and just be a good person yeah yeah that's the message there be a good person yeah so we're going to talk to you in the next half hour a little bit more about um some of the things that you have going on over at the 906 Adventure team because you have a big year ahead we do yes so we're going to talk to you in the 6:30 half hour thanks for sharing that with all of us
