Kendal Jones, a cleaner about to be evicted with
her two daughters, discovered that her boss was cheating on his wife. The millionaire offers
$15,000 for her silence, and the woman agrees to keep the secret. But when his wife discovers it
all, her retaliation leaves everyone speechless... Kendal Jones had just turned 32 years old and was
facing the worst moment of her life. For a year, she had been working as a cleaner in
a shopping center in the afternoons, and a second job took up her mor
nings:
that of a maid in a five-star hotel on the other side of town. It was a busy life full of
sacrifices, but it was necessary to keep the house supplied and her two daughters fed and clothed.
While she was away at work, her eldest daughter, aged 12, kept an eye on the youngest. Kendal
knew this was not ideal and had to pray to the heavens that nothing serious would happen in
her absence. Bills were being paid months late, but at least they hadn't starved yet.
The problem is that to keep
themselves going for the past few months, Kendal had to
stop paying rent and had already received a second letter from the property's landlord.
The third letter would be an eviction notice if she didn't pay what she owed by the following
month. Kendal didn't know what to do. Two jobs were insufficient, and she had no energy for a
third job. She was never rich, but the situation was much more stable when Rick was with her.
She had met the man when she was 17. After the couple's first daughter
was born, Kendal
got a job at the mall, and Rick worked with a cousin who was a construction foreman. It was
a financially good time for the family, so much so that they could have a second daughter and not
suffer from the increased expenses brought by the younger one. While the couple did not aspire to
greatness, they were also far from experiencing any need and could eat out occasionally and
ensure the girls' received a good education. But six months ago, on a Thursday, Rick
left for wo
rk in the morning and never returned. While inspecting the construction
of a commercial building in the city center, he fell from a height of 25 feet, breaking his
collarbone and leg and suffering a concussion. The man was taken to the hospital, still alive,
but the company's health plan didn’t cover the tests and procedures needed to save Rick.
Kendal didn't think twice: on the same day, she transferred large sums from the couple's
savings account so the doctors could do what was needed. Tw
o surgeries and six more days of
agonizing wait passed, and Rick had not regained consciousness. He eventually passed away early
one morning in his hospital bed. His death was a giant blow to the family. His wife had to use most
of the couple's savings to pay for the funeral. Kendal and her daughters grieved for an entire
month; it was the saddest period of their lives. It was only after this time that she went after
their rights. Jason, Rick's contractor cousin, said he would pay her the i
nsurance and due
compensation but had to wait for reports, studies, and other paperwork. Kendal then waited
for more than a month, but nothing happened. At that point, she already had no savings
and saw that her salary as a cleaner would not be enough to keep up with the bills.
Luckily, Kendal's friend referred her, and she got a job as a maid at a luxury hotel.
But the threat of eviction still lay before her, with two children to raise. Although she already
had enough problems, they did n
ot end there... Kendal worked at the mall, cleaning the
administrative offices. Russell and Linda Kennedy ran the shopping complex, two people
in their sixties and still very active in business and high society. The couple's
offices were on the mall's top floor, and Kendal would clean them three times a week.
Russell was reserved in front of his employees, while Linda was more motivational and positive.
The older businesswoman had always been very polite and generous with Kendal. They didn't
talk much about personal or intimate matters, but Linda always smiled at her and
occasionally even complimented her work. Kendal said she was the best boss she ever had.
One morning, while Kendal was cleaning one of the hotel rooms on the other side of town, she
saw Russell Kennedy, her boss at the mall, entering one of the rooms. "Hi, beautiful. I'm
home," he said, closing the door behind him. Kendal thought how romantic that was. Russell and
Linda had been married for over 30 years and s
till found opportunities to meet outside their home in
a luxury hotel. Although Kendal was not a friend of her bosses, she felt happy for them. So the
maid went about her work on that and the remaining floors during her shift. Two hours later, Kendal
received a clean-up call. Her boss reported that the guests in room 1002 had gone out for lunch
on the terrace and requested that their room be cleaned and organized before they returned.
Kendal responded to the request and noted that it was pre
cisely the room Russell and
Linda Kennedy were in. Upon entering, the maid immediately realized how the two
of them had used the place and felt slightly disconcerted. Imagine if her bosses knew she was
there, seeing the messy satin sheets, the wine glasses on the headboard, and those clothes you
only wear at special private parties scattered all over the floor. Kendal felt she was invading
the couple's privacy, but she had to do her job. However, as she tidied up the mess left in the
room,
she realized that certain pieces of clothing and feminine items were not exactly compatible
with Linda's level of elegance or age. Suddenly, Russell's phone rang on the bedside table.
Kendal went over and felt a chill run down her spine when she saw it was a call from
Linda Kennedy. That was already very weird, and as Kendal realized what was really
happening there, she was shocked and afraid. But she didn't have much time to think as the door
to the room opened, and its occupants entered,
bumping into her. Kendal acted as naturally as
he could without facing either of them. The girl accompanying Mr. Russel was very young and went
straight to the bathroom without giving a damn about the maid. But Russell took a second
glance at Kendal and realized who she was. The powerful man was petrified. "What are you
doing here?" he finally asked in a shallow voice, taking care that the young woman in the bathroom
didn't hear anything. "I... I, I work here, sir. Part-time. I'll be leavi
ng," Kendal
replied, bumbling her words and quickly taking the bedsheets away before Russell
asked any more questions. Kendal crossed the tenth-floor corridor with her heart
racing and stepped into the service elevator, relieved to be out of that room.
When Kendal needed to go to her next job at the mall in the afternoon, she felt
a knot in her stomach. She would have made up some excuse and skipped work that day
if she could have. But in her situation, Kendal Jones could not afford to have
even a penny
deducted from her salary. So, she went to work. The place was quieter than usual, and there was
no sign of either of the owners. She worked all day tensely and was getting ready to leave when
Russell Kennedy appeared and walked towards her. Kendal held her breath. She had prayed not to run
into the boss. But clearly, someone up there was not on her side. "Kendal Jones, correct?"
the man asked with an air of superiority. "I would like to say that what you have seen and
think y
ou know should remain with you. Do you understand me?" Kendal hadn't thought of telling
anyone anything; after all, she didn't even know how to act in that awkward situation. But,
interpreting the cleaner's silence as reluctance, Russell decided to make a proposal: "I see that
you are confused. Tell you what," said the man, taking his wallet out of his pocket.
"I believe that silence is worth more than gold in special cases. And you are an
intelligent woman; you know you have nothing to gain
by selling me your silence. So, I
made this check and came looking for you." The businessman showed the cleaner the check
for $15,000, which would be more than enough for her to pay off her unpaid bills and still have
money left over for the coming months. In seconds, Kendal calculated that if she interfered in her
employers' lives by telling Linda what she saw, she would surely lose her job. It would
be an office cleaner's word against a powerful businessman's. So, she accepted
her boss'
s offer and put the check in her purse. "Very good. It is done. See you later,"
said Russell, turning around as if he had just bought an ice cream cone before heading home.
That night, tired and tense, Kendal hugged her two daughters, wondering what had happened.
When she thought about the check in her purse, she felt free from her financial problems, but
for some reason, it didn't bring her any comfort. She couldn't stop thinking about how wrong it
all was— receiving money for a man to cont
inue cheating on his wife. Kendal had trouble sleeping
that night. She turned from side to side, got up to drink water, and breathed deeply, searching for
peace and tranquility, but nothing worked. She had to assuage her anguish; she just didn't know
that doing so would come at such a high price. The next day, she arrived at the mall
early, hoping to find the owner. Luckily, Mr. Russell was around, but his wife Linda
was not. She knocked on the door and entered her boss's office. He was ver
y intrigued by her
presence. "Did you come to work early? Or was what we discussed yesterday not enough?" Russell asked.
Kendal then took the check from her pocket and placed it on the man's desk. "I need to get this
away from me, Mr. Russell," said the cleaner. Kendal had no intention of telling anyone about
what she saw; after all, it would interfere with her boss's marriage, but she didn't want to be
paid to lie. Russell Kennedy was furious. "In that case, you'll spill your guts sooner or
later, and I can't take that risk. Besides, why should I trust a cleaner who stole from me?"
Kendal was confused. What was he talking about? "I said nothing to the hotel manager, who is
even a friend of mine, because, in addition to the money, I was offering my silence in exchange
for yours. You see, my Swiss watch disappeared that day that you were inside my room."
The woman couldn't believe her ears. She was trying to do what her conscience told her to
do, but now she would be charged wit
h theft and, in one fell swoop, she was about to lose the two
jobs that supported her and her daughters. "And, as for this mall, you don't even have
to get the broom and mop anymore. From now on, you can clean the streets."
Kendal was in tears, almost kneeling to beg the man not to do that. "Too late, my dear. If you
open your beak, remember, it will be the word of a thieving cleaner against me, a distinguished
member of society. Good luck," Russell said, walking out of his office without lo
oking
back, leaving the woman crying and humiliated. Five minutes ago, Kendal had the solution to
her problems in the palm of her hand. Now, she was in a more catastrophic situation than
before. She thought of Rick, her late husband, and how she missed having a companion
like him at such a difficult time. What Mr. Russell Kennedy promised, he delivered.
The next day, on arrival at the hotel, Kendal was called into the security room, where she was
questioned for an hour and a half. Kendal J
ones swore she hadn't taken any watches, and they could
check on the hallway footage. However, the head of security said they had already checked the images
and that the maid would be charged with them. The footage showed Kendal leaving Russell's room
quickly, rolling up the bedsheets suspiciously. Then she appeared visibly nervous in the
service elevator. Kendal was eventually suspended from work with no way to prove
her innocence. The hotel director gave her two days to return the watch a
nd escape that
situation, only losing her job without facing a police investigation. Kendal was desperate.
What was she going to do now? When she got home, she tried to act normally, not to alarm her two
daughters, especially the eldest. But at night, alone, she went to the bathroom and cried.
The next day, she left home at the same time as usual. She was unemployed and decided not to
lose a single day, so she applied for jobs in various places: snack bars, stationery shops, and
bars. She h
ad worked in a luxury shopping mall and hotel, so she thought she could get a position
fairly easily, but it wasn't quite like that. A week after losing both her jobs, Kendal could
no longer put food on the table. In addition, a summons to testify and an eviction order had
already arrived by mail. Yet, amid all this chaos, Kendal remained silent about what she saw
at the hotel between Mr. Russell and the much younger girl. And instead of going out to
look for work to no avail, as in previou
s days, Kendal was forced to beg in the city center.
Her dignity had found a new low, but she had no choice - she needed to feed her two daughters.
Kendal's physical and emotional exhaustion was evident as a black car approached her, and one of
the windows rolled down. Kendal lifted her eyes and saw the face of Linda Kennedy staring
out the car window! "What are you doing here?" her surprised former employer asked.
"Madam, my life is in ruins," Kendal said, crying. Linda said she was on her
way to an
important appointment but handed Kendal a $100 bill and asked her to go home and meet
her again at a coffee shop two hours later. With the money, Kendal left her daughters
supplied at home, took a shower, and went to the café suggested by Linda. The wealthy lady said
she had been told that the cleaner had resigned as she would move in with her daughters. Kendal
said the truth was different but didn't want to talk about it because she was going through tough
times. "Well, tell me
about it. I already have a hunch. What makes no sense at all is for you to
resign to go begging on the streets," Linda said. Kendal realized that this woman was no fool.
"Does this have anything to do with Russell, my husband?" asked the woman. With no way
out, Kendal told absolutely everything that had happened, from the death of Rick,
her husband, and the impending eviction, to what she saw at the hotel to the return of Mr.
Russell's check. With every word she uttered about her husband's b
etrayal, she feared that Linda
would suffer. But her former boss listened to everything with a serious look on her face, but
without getting worked up, letting Kendal speak freely. By the end of the story, the cleaner
was more distressed than the betrayed woman. Linda then took her former employee's hands
and thanked her for not telling her anything or creating a scandal when she was fired. "It turns
out I already knew about Russell's betrayals." said the woman unceremoniously. Before Kenda
l
could say anything, Linda continued, "You must be thinking I'm a fool, one of those women who would
rather be cheated on just so as not to lose a man, aren't you? But it's not like that. For months,
I, my lawyers, and a private detective have been working to catch Russell. And, if you had exposed
what happened in the hotel between him and that underage girl, you would have jeopardized our
entire investigation," Linda said. Kendal was dumbfounded. Now everything made sense! It wasn't
just
the betrayal; now she understood why her silence was worth so much to that disgusting man!
At the end of their meeting, Linda promised that she would help her former office cleaner. Now
she was even more motivated than before to get justice. Linda and Kendal returned to their
homes. Kendal still had all her problems, but her heart was lighter. The next day,
Russell Kennedy became the most talked about man in town. His face was all over the TV
news, newspapers, and online portals worldwide.
Photos and phone recordings revealed how the man
was evading taxes, paying kickbacks to judges on behalf of other businesses, and the icing
on the cake: he was using a five-star hotel to have criminal meetings. The case had huge
repercussions, and later that day, two things happened: Russell was taken into custody by the
Feds; his situation was extremely delicate. And Linda Kennedy paid a visit to Kendal's home.
On this unexpected visit, she met the woman's two daughters and thanked her agai
n
for her discretion. Then, as a reward, she offered her $50,000. But now, I don't want
to buy your silence but to compensate you for all the humiliation and fear you had suffered at
the hands of that scoundrel. Naturally, Kendal didn't want to accept, but Linda insisted it was
no longer a time for pride; this was well-deserved and would ensure a roof over her family's head.
Linda then put her lawyers at the disposal of Kendal, who won total compensation in court
for the accidental death of
her husband in the workplace, totaling $130,000. But it didn't
stop there: her two daughters would continue to receive a monthly pension until they turned 18.
Kendal paid off all her debts and put down a deposit on the purchase of the house in which she
and her daughters were already living. She stocked the fridge and pantry with food and bought new
clothes for her daughters and herself, including some suits, because the following week, she would
be working at the mall again, not as a clean
er, but as Linda Kennedy's personal assistant.
On her first day in her new role, a nanny stayed at Kendal's house to look after her
youngest daughter while her eldest daughter studied. Kendal gave her boss a big hug for
all she had done. "I don't even know how to thank you," Kendal said. And then Linda replied,
"Why, my dear. Everything you have achieved has been well deserved. And as it turns out, this is
just the beginning of a new phase in your life." If you liked this story, please leave
