art class is a lot more than just coloring and painting and cutting shapes it's a course where kids can tap into their imaginations and then use that art as a way to express their feelings well there's one Middle Tennessee art teacher who goes above and beyond to help her students do just that and her hard work was recognized when she took home two prestigious educator Awards Kelsey Gibb shares her journey in tonight's school patrol it's going to be a little flag likee but this is art class look
at that when the colors bump they change woo Dr Tina Atkinson is the art teacher at Percy Priest Elementary School I just kind of feel my way through it green blue oh how about a little bit of purple she has dedicated nearly 30 years of her life to teaching which one's lighter red or blue red red okay so let's get some red on our brush if I say it one time I'll say it a 100 times if you're going to be a teacher be an art teacher our paperwork is so much more fun there's colors you can use that'
s not cron colors her kindergarteners say their favorite part of this class well it's easy painting I'm going to go with some I need some red today they're using watercolors we want to make sure we're holding our paintbrush like a pencil or a dead rat or a dead rat we don't want to hold it like a dead rat but Dr a as they call her has taught them how to make art from all kinds of materials we painted necklaces out of out of are you okay you can tell just how much Dr Atkinson loves her job if I'm

milies it's just so important but we're here today because Dr Atkinson is a winner you want to slide it over she won award she has won two Awards in fact ainson has been named the national Elementary art educator by the National Art Education Association as well as the 2020 4 sou Eastern Regional Elementary art educator of the year I was pretty surprised ainson has won a lot of awards for her work inside and outside the classroom oh blue I haven't used any blue let's do some blue down here but s
