Ultimately, if I can create good
wrestlers that's good but really if I can create good community members, good husbands, and wives, that's a success. My name is Jason Planakis, this is my eighteenth
year teaching overall in Springfield, Virginia. There's two ways that you're going to be graded on this. As an educator, one of the things that I notice
a lot with my students is that there's kind of a disconnect between what maybe society
thinks is the path that they should be on, if they only ev
er hear one option, there ends up
being a lot of kids that are just kind of lost. I don't necessarily start off you know, I'm a
former Marine, but it comes up. It's nice that the kids are able to connect with somebody that
has a maybe a slightly different perspective. Even though it's been 22 years since I got out
of the Marine Corps, I think the Marine Corps taught me that what I should be focusing on is
what is the top standard, what is the most that you can do and that's one of the thing
s that I
try to teach my wrestlers and my kids is that if you have the mindset of adapt and overcome, that translates to all things in life. It gives me a huge sense of pride that maybe I'm taking a
kid and putting them on a path that leads them to success in their life, that success can be going
to college, that success can be going to a trade school, that success at least a possibility, can be going into the Marine Corps.
