well we know it can be very tough to follow this recent legal zigzag surrounding a controversial immigration policy in Texas hours after the US Supreme Court kept that policy in play a federal appeals court blocked it yesterday the policy allows law enforcement in Texas to arrest immigrants illegally crossing from Mexico although it's on hold for now some are putting out a warning to any new Mexican traveling to Texas Spencer shot spoke to the ACLU about the ramifications this policy could have
on our state if it's allowed to be enforced in Texas Spencer well Tessa the aclu's main concern is the possibility for racial profiling and discrimination of people of color who are in the US legally so the national ACLU and L Americas are suing the state of Texas saying this law is blatantly unconstitutional immigration is not just historically a federal government issue but constitutionally a federal government priority and and issue area local police not really trained in Immigration at all r
ight they don't go through the same type of Academy that border patrol does or the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officers do while the law is not in effect at the moment the ACLU officials say they have heard concerns already from New Mexicans saying Texas law enforcement officers have already become more aggressive in questioning people's immigration status when they are going to Texas to visit family go to the hospital or even going back to college the ACLU is re-upping their travel advi
sory for folks going to Texas and encouraging them to take the necessary precautions and they are continuing to issue their travel warning make sure you know you have any relevant migration documentation make sure you have family members who've been contacted if you're going to Texas uh so that there steps in place if something does happen the ACLU aren't the only ones who are opposing this law tonight we are hearing from our local delegation on this issue that's coming up tonight at 6:30 back t
o you guys all right Spencer thank you so much and this border battle in Texas is keeping law enforcement there on edge I feel very nervous because I I don't have any any information an attorney for Texas is arguing the state is stepping in because the federal government is not doing enough to stop an influx of migrants crossing the border recently however the federal government's lawyer fired back saying the Biden Administration is acting on the issue others say a patchwork of States enforcing
their own immigration policies would just lead to chaos

@JustaGamerT2

Hispanic Texans actually want this law. Everyone has had enough!

@oldluke7653

These organizations are letting you know who is more important than citizens!

@JPaul60

@thesyllabus6568

"Extremely dangerous to our democracy" 😂

@OriginalParadigm357

Just saying the grammar in this title led me to believe that people from New Mexico traveling to Texas could be detained/arrested. Grammar is important! Let's eat, grandma. Let's eat grandma. C'mon KOB 4

@Jesse-wy9pb

What about the ones that look Chinese? 🤷🏻‍♂️

@enriquecruz6973

Mexican American and long time NM citizen. I moved my family out of NM finally last year and settled into a fantastic little rural town in east TX. We have never felt safer. NM is a dumpster fire of dope, crime, violence, and debauchery and not a suitable place to raise a family. Why is the ACLU more concerned about political gas lighting than it is about true threats to public safety for citizens? I was worried to death about all the logistics of maning this move when we were planning it. Now that we're here and away from that zoo that is NM I wish we had left sooner.

@lorenzoalbertomedina6753

Get a real job Leonardo Castaneda.

@gypseytoo

Close the borders

@shawncollins656

Sounds a bit racist

@grantsapain

They should be warning Texans about the new Mexicans...

@bulljohnson6635

Oh, give me a break. Why dont you visit Eagle Pass before you start spreading this crap?

@Blindjustice1776

They wouldn't have to warn people traveling to Texas from New Mexico if there weren't so many illegal immigrants in New Mexico. It's not controversial to defend our borders.

@michaelmiguel6937

As someone who’s an American and Hispanic I do not fear in the least of getting deported. People are ridiculous

@nsaad3048

Like half of Texas is hispanic. Actual Americans, mind you. And loads of Mexican Nationals there legally. There's never been any issue for them.

@MrAnarchris

Bovine Excrement!
