Adelphi University

[soft upbeat music playing throughout] Hello everyone. It's Rebecca again with  Campus Reel and today I'll be speaking about my experience with some of the clubs  and organizations here at Adelphi. There are tons of different ways to get involved and find  something that interests you here. To clarify some terminology, an e-board or executive board  refers to the group of students who run a club or organization. Each person in the group has a title  such as president, treasurer, public relations
, and have specific responsibilities for that group.  The different officers work together to create a welcoming and fun environment for all of their  members. Now let's talk about some of Adelphi's clubs and organizations. The first organization  I'm going to speak about is C.A.L.I.B.E.R., which is the Adelphi's largest community  service organization. C.A.L.I.B.E.R. stands for Cause to Achieve Leadership,  Intelligence, Brotherhood Excellence, and Respect. In addition to our weekly  meetings,
we also hold community service events. Some of my favorites in the past have been Light  the Night, which is a walk for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, as well as Food Not Bombs, which  is a food distribution. Being involved with events such as this gives C.A.L.I.B.E.R. members  the opportunity to give back to the community hands-on. During our meetings, we hold in  services, which give our members the opportunity to participate in community service projects from  home. Some of my favorite in
services we've done in the past is make dog toys to donate to the  North Shore Animal Alliance and write cards to healthcare workers. Although in services are  very simple, they can be very impactful and they give our members an opportunity to participate  from wherever they may be. Sometimes during our meetings, we hold brotherhood events. This is  where the different members of C.A.L.I.B.E.R. come together to just have fun, play some  games, and get to know each other better. Building the sen
se of community really makes  C.A.L.I.B.E.R. an amazing group that everybody just loves being a part of. The end of my first  year, I ran for treasurer of C.A.L.I.B.E.R. This role monitors the funds raised for the club as  well as what the money is spent on. Although I was nervous, I'm so, so glad I did. I've had  such an amazing time working with the fellow executive board officers and I really improved my  leadership skills, my communication skills, and overall it's just been a great time. If
you have  any questions about the club, you can email us at caliber@adelphi.edu. Hope to see you. Now I'm  going to talk about Adelphi's Environmental Action Coalition. I've always been an environmentally  conscious person and did my best to stay up to date on issues in relation to the environment, and  that's what the Environmental Action Coalition or EACs goal is, to keep their members informed  on what's going on in the world in relation to environmental justice, as well as encourage  members
to take action for environmental causes. This was actually the first club I joined here  at Adelphi, and even though I was nervous, the executive board as well as the other  members were incredibly welcoming. Even though I don't know much about the  scientific aspects of this topic, the executive board makes sure to always  explain any terms or concepts that students may not know. By explaining these different  concepts, it allows students who are majors, minors, people like me who are involved
with  environmental science in an academic sense to join the club. This extends to all different clubs  and organizations here at Adelphi. Whether this is your first time hearing about a topic or you're  an expert, any club or organization will be happy to have you join. If you are interested in it,  they're willing to teach you and talk about it, so don't feel like you only have to join clubs  that align with your specific major career goals. If you're interested or want to learn more,  email
environmentalactioncoalition@adelphi.edu. Next, I'm going to speak about Psychology Club.  This club is an extremely valuable source of information about the psychology department here  at Adelphi, but we also hold events and meetings to create a community of students both within  and outside of the psychology department. We also frequently have guest speakers who come and speak  on a variety of topics such as suicide prevention, psychology graduate school offerings, and  meditation. We also get
a lot of psychology professors who come to the club just to see  what's going on, meet different students, and it's a great way to form connections and get  to know them outside of the classroom. Currently, I'm the secretary for the Psychology Club.  I track attendance at all of our events and monitor the MyAULife page. MyAULife is the  program that Adelphi uses to relay information about different clubs and meetings and events  to students throughout the Adelphi community. It's my job to write
why, where and when  Psychology Club is meeting and make sure that our members know exactly where to go.  Joining the executive board of an organization can seem daunting, but it's a great opportunity  to improve your leadership skills, collaborate with other students, and make a difference in  how clubs are run here at Adelphi. If you have any questions or want more information, email  us at psyclub@adelphi.edu. Hope to see you soon. Hi, everyone. Here I am at the Adelphi's Panther  Pantry. Th
is organization collects and donates food to different members of the Adelphi  community. I've been volunteering here since fall 2019, and it has been a great experience. On  Fridays I come here, fill some orders, and then drop them off at the mail room where they can be  picked up confidentially. There's a wide variety of different foods people can pick from as well  as toiletries. I love volunteering at the Panther Pantry. The work we do here is so simple, but  it really makes a difference for
people's lives. As you can see, Adelphi has so many different  groups that allow students to meet new people, learn more about unique topics, and overall just  have fun. Hope you all enjoyed getting a taste of the different clubs and organizations  here at Adelphi. Hope to see you soon. [music slowly fades out]
