Aesop's Fables: The Bear and the Traveller #aesopsfables #fables

An audio narration from Aesop's Fables, Volume Two. This video is an excerpt from Aesop's Fables: Volume One (26-37) | Audiobook: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zl3UrAne0PA&ab_channel=CivilizationEx Credited to a former slave from the 6th century BCE, Aesop’s Fables taught simple lesson and universal truths through easily understood allegories. Though little was known of Aesop's life in ancient Greece and some even question his existence, these stories survived as timeless classics all over the world. Bear and the Traveller Two Travellers were on the road together when  a Bear suddenly appeared on the scene. Before he observed them, one traveller made for a tree  at the side of the road, climbed to the branches and hid. The other was not so nimble and threw  himself on the ground, pretending to be dead. The Bear came up and sniffed all round him, but  he kept perfectly still, holding held his breath: for they say that a bear will not touch a  dead body. The Bear took him for a corpse, and wen
t away. When the coast was clear, the  Traveller in the tree came down, and asked the other what it was the Bear had whispered when his  mouth neared the man’s ear. The other replied, "He told me never again to travel with a friend  who deserts you at the first sign of danger." Misfortune tests the sincerity of friendship.
