Amazing St Wolfgang Schafberg Mountain Cog Railway Day Trip From Salzburg Austria 4k

Join me on this amazing St Wolfgang Schafberg mountain cog railway day trip from Salzburg, Austria. The Schafberg mountain is in the beautiful Salzkammergut resort region of Austria and the Schafberg cog railway, the steepest cog railway in Austria, at St Wolfgang has been in operation since 1893. On this journey we also take the fabulously scenic St Gilgen to St Wolfgang ferry across Wolfgangsee Lake, which is one of the best known lakes in the Salzkammergut resort region. At St Wolfgang we take the memorable Schafberg cog railway to the top of the Schafberg mountain. Once at the top of the Schafberg mountain we explore what the mountain has offer and its many astonishing views, including getting away from the crowds and climbing to the top of the precipitous Spinnerin. *Schafberg (Salzkammergut)* Schafberg (1,783 m) is a mountain in the Austrian state of Salzburg. Situated within the Salzkammergut Mountains range of the Northern Limestone Alps, the Schafberg rises at the shore of Wolfgangsee Lake. *Schafberg Cog Railway* The Schafberg Railway, Schafbergbahn in German, is a metre gauge cog railway in Upper Austria and Salzburg leading from Sankt Wolfgang im Salzkammergut up to the Schafberg. With a total length of 5.85 km it gains 1190 vertical meters. Construction of the Schafberg Railway commenced in 1892 and operations begun during the following year. It is owned by Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) and operated by the local company SchafbergBahn und Wolfgangsee Schifffahrt (SLB), part of the Salzburg AG group. *Lake Wolfgang Ferry* The WolfgangseeSchifffahrt ferries have been sailing between St. Wolfgang, St. Gilgen, and Strobl since 1873. The fleet consists of six motorized vessels, running daily from May until October, as well as on weekends during Advent, in springtime, and at Easter. Boat landings are located at St. Gilgen, Fürberg, Ried/Falkenstein, Schafbergbahn, St. Wolfgang, Geschwendt and Strobl. The ferry ride from St. Gilgen to St. Wolfgang takes about 45 minutes on Wolfgangsee Lake, with beautiful views of the lakeside villages and towns before arriving at the pier at St. Wolfgang. *Wolfgangsee* Lake Wolfgang, Wolfgangsee in German, is a lake in Austria that lies mostly within the state of Salzburg and is one of the best known lakes in the Salzkammergut resort region. The municipalities on its shore are Strobl, St. Gilgen with the villages of Abersee and Ried as well as the market town of St. Wolfgang in the state of Upper Austria. The town and the lake are named after Saint Wolfgang of Regensburg, who, according to legend, built the first church here in the late 10th century. #schafberg #schafbergbahn #salzkammergut #lake #salzburg #austria #walkthrough #walkingtour #panorama #views #mountains #4k #solo #solotravel #hiking ☕ *Buy me a coffee* https://www.buymeacoffee.com/thehikinghermit *Chapters* 📖 00:00 Introduction 📖 00:30 St Gilgen Austria 📖 02:16 Wolfgangsee Lake St Gilgen to St Wolfgang Ferry 📖 03:57 St Wolfgang Austria 📖 04:36 St Wolfgang Schafbergbahn 📖 05:29 Schafberg Cog Railway 📖 09:30 Himmelspforte Schafberg 📖 15:34 Schafbergspitze Austria 📖 20:51 Schafberg Hike 📖 26:20 Schafberg Spinnerin 📖 29:44 Schafberg Bahn Bergstation 📖 20:36 Schafbergbahn Train 📖 31:18 Wolfgangsee Lake St Wolfgang to St Gilgen Ferry *Music* Myths by Alex-Productions | https://onsound.eu/ Music promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.com Creative Commons / Attribution 3.0 Unported License (CC BY 3.0) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/deed.en_US Elysium by Alexander Nakarada (CreatorChords) | https://creatorchords.com Music promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.com Creative Commons / Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ The Climb by Scott Buckley | https://soundcloud.com/scottbuckley Music promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.com Creative Commons / Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ *Videos you may also enjoy* 🎥 Fortress Hohensalzburg Tour, Salzburg https://youtu.be/1MCAOdccEvc 🎥 Salzburg Walking Tour to Fortress Hohensalzburg https://youtu.be/-wKcDQlFrq8 🎥 Bells of Salzburg https://youtu.be/Nm_NF6bzQxw 🎥 Munich Airport https://youtu.be/ewOiSbfRvRA *Follow me on* ✅ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thehikinghermit/ ✅ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thehikinghermit/ ✅ X/Twitter: https://twitter.com/thehikinghermit ✅ YouTube: youtube.com/channel/UCzjPmPgZnxQ8PnqhnKeRaWg?sub_confirmation=1 *About the channel* Hello I'm Paul aka The Hiking Hermit and on the channel you will find a hiking travel vlog with 4k hiking videos and 4k travel videos of the places I've hiked and travelled to. The Hiking Hermit & His Solo Travel Adventures

Join me on an amazing day trip from Salzburg to go up Schafberg mountain via  Austria's steepest cog railway The Hiking Hermit, presents Schafberg Mountain, a day trip from Salzburg So I've just arrived on the bus, the  150 bus from Salzburg, into St Gilgen So just about to catch my ferry now to St Wolfgang and then wait for my slot on the cog railway up to the Schafberg When buying your ticket you're  given an allotted train time up the mountain and select your train time down The ferry and tra
in return ticket is combined So that's where I got my ticket but if you know the weather's going to be good you can booked them online and  pre-book your slots beforehand escpecially if you know the  timings of the boats etc I wasn't too sure whether I  was going to have a clear top and how long it takes the boat across etc so I just got the ticket on arrival price is the same Just waiting in line to get  on the boat to St Wolfgang So I've just scanned in getting on the boat The ferry trip from
St Gilgen to St Wolfgang  takes about 40 minutes with 2 stops along the way Right let's go and find where we get the train I've got 15 minutes here before I need to get on my  scheduled train to the top And the weather's changing for the better a little better than forecast I'm getting lucky again with the weather I'm assuming this is the place I need to be, just across the way from the ferry Austria's steepest cog railway has been running  from St. Wolfgang up the Schafberg since 1893. The trai
n takes 35 minutes to cover  a total distance of 5.85 kilometers, rising 1190 vertical meters. Let's now take this memorable experience  of the journey to the top. Well I've just got off the cog  train and I'm on the Schafberg it's a bit breezy up here so that should give my new microphone a good test at least it's nice and cool let's go and have an explore And the weather forecast  has changed for the better it was meant to the rain was meant to come in about 3 o clock but has been pushed out u
ntil about 6 now Although there was a massive  thunderstorm last night and I thought there was like a  tornado outside my hotel window It certainly was rattling the windows I've just crested a little  hill and look at that view that is beautiful It's a big from about 3 or 4 feet in front of me so I'm not going to get too close to that edge WOW! Stunning! Going to make my way down this cross, down here Making my way down to this cross being a bit careful down here it's a bit rocky get down to the
path below there ah, found a nicer path to get on to So there's a bit of a gap in the wall says big drop, very slippy, watch out  so I'll not go too close to the edge Oh but there's like ropes and things I think they're probably exaggerating a little bit I'll not go too close to the edge That's a fine view I guess this is where the Generation  Explorers came up through when they climbed maybe they'll tell me I seemed to remember it on their video There's a few big drops And I've not got too muc
h of a fear of heights but I'd say I have a healthy fear of them which means I don't take too many undue risks Get myself with cross in Hopefully get the full cross with my ugly mush we'll see beautiful! So I've made it right to the edge for this view I've got it all to myself for a split second They'll be moving in shortly but that is a beautiful view Just a get a 360 view off here with my ugly mush in the shot sure is an awesome view and I'm glad the forecast cleared beautiful! Superb! I'll le
t somebody else have the opportunity now Looks like there could be  another viewpoint up here see what we can see it got a fence around it so a lot less risky It's not a bad view is it See for miles today You don't have to watch your feet as much here WOW what a cool view Nice and breezy as well So I'm just going to head a little bit higher get some different angles and views Sure is cool place It's like how many lakes can you see in one day It looks like I'm going to have a lot  of footage to s
ort through on this one WOW! Views, views and more views Does that mean I've bagged another summit cheated It's not like me to cheat though cheated a lot on this trip Looks like there is another  observation deck down here So just heading back from that viewpoint now I think I'll go and get a drink actually I was wondering where the kiosk was for takeaways because if you don't know  I'm not the type of person who likes to sit down and eat I find having something to eat  something I have to do ra
ther than enjoy it I suppose so I'm a sort of drink and eat on the go especially when time is not  a commodity that is plentiful like in places like this So I'm eating a stodgy bread thing I'm not sure what they're called but it's stodge keep me going for a hour or so So just had my salty stodge so that's my electrolyte levels topped up and I've had quite a lot of  sugary drinks this week as well which I don't normally drink so probably had a years supply this week One thing about these places w
here you  can get up on the cable car or on a train is you see people you won't normally  see at the top of these kind of places I'm used to having mountain  tops pretty much to myself Let's see what views we can obtain off here It's a bit more peaceful down here  away from the maddening crowds Looks like we've got a helicopter pad here So perhaps see what's down here first before we get the train WOW! Look at that! That is beautiful! And away from all the maddening crowd I've got plenty of time
here well got another hour and half before the train, the scheduled train I catch so may as well walk along this ridge see what views we get If indeed I can get to the ridge That surely is a grand view Just dropped down a little bit further round a bend and here I am at another stunning location Sure is less busy and some different views than, err the maddening crowds probably get I like to get away on my little sort of paths away from the crowds because I always find you get the better views A
nd what a view it is Along as there's enough room for me and don't get prickled through  these whatever they are Good job I'm quite skinny So it looks like we can get  up to where we need to go We're not too far from the top of the little  mountain or hill or whatever you call it Looks quite steep for the last bit We shall see It's very breezy So I'm just making my way up this hill you can see another lake coming into view Try and find the best path up to the top Looks like skirting down the  bo
ttom of this rocky section will get me there It's pretty steep quite a big drop Quite windy up here just making my way to the top Windy up here it's very steep don't want to trip and fall this is as far as I'm going It's pretty windy I'm sure you'll agree it's a pretty awesome view So I'm just going to get a  360 in this fabulous spot WOW! So that sure was pretty steep had to watch your step especially as I'm not in the best shoes for doing it so it was a little bit precaurious Come to a little
break in the cliffs on the way back. I didn't  see that on the way there It's pretty cool And then I move along a few feet and get a different perspective on it Sure was worth making the little trip down this way I'm about 3 or 4 feet from a huge drop Make my way back up the mountain So I'm just on my way back from the peak over yonder quite precarious in places but sure is a great view on the way to it beautiful! You can see the smoke from the cog train I'm back near the Schafbergbahn station W
ell just got off the Schafberg cog train and hopefully this boat coming in right now is going to, erm St Gilgen It will be stroke of luck or I'm sure it's timed that way but the weather is scorching I think I've got a bit burnt again I never learn And indeed it's going to St Gilgen Very cool Hopefully there's a bus as soon as we get off So arrived back in St Gilgen from a trip up the Schafberg on the cog railway and the ferry over towards it and back Now to find the number 150 bus stop I hope yo
u enjoyed the trip as much as I did

This whole series has made me realise how beautiful this region is. I have only been to Austria in the winter (skiing when I was much younger) but the lakes and mountains are clearly spectacular during the summer. Thanks for sharing, Paul.
