You're going to hear an American and a British  person discuss the different vocabulary they use. This is my friend Ilona. Ilona where are you from? I am from Colchester in Essex,  in the southeast of England. So we have an authentic  British person with us today. So, Ilona I have a question for you. If you wanted to transport a horse from one place to another, what  would you put them inside of? I would put them in a horse box. Hmm interesting, I would call that a trailer. And what would be pul
ling - oh a horse box -  you would call a horse box a whole truck, right? Like a whole - the whole thing? Or does something pull the horse box? Um, no. You would probably use a van to pull a horse box. Okay, I would use... a car, or a car. I would use a truck. Okay. And what is like the the big, the big trucks  with like 16 wheels that move things like cargo? Cargo? Or horses? Cargo. A lorry. That's interesting, I would call those trucks. And um, you know where I live  right? You know my my home
? What kind of home do I live in? You live in a flat in Portugal. Interesting, this is an apartment  in Portugal though, yes. Um, okay, so talking about vehicles. Cars. In the back of a car where you might open it  to put something inside like your suitcase, what is - what is this space called? That's called the boot, obviously. Interesting, it's called a trunk. And um, what do you need to put inside of your car to make it run, to make it go? Petrol, or diesel depending on the car. Gasoline, or
diesel, depending on the car. Okay, um, let's see snacks. Do you like snacks Ilona? I love snacks! Okay, so if you were to go to McDonald's and you  were to get um like a cheeseburger. And with your cheeseburger you might have, in like a little red  McDonald's pouch, what would you have in there? Chips. Ah — French fries. And if you were to... I don't know  where I would have these normally. But these are things that come from  potatoes and they're pretty crispy. Um, you might have a bag of them
- sorry. Those would be called crisps, and you would have those in a pub. And uh, actually, we have a tradition that if you open - most people open them just from the top. But if you're in a pub you open it all the way down the side, and open it out like  this - so that people can share. And that's called Pub opening. Oh. That's how you share your crisps. Wow! Pub opening. These are called chips. Um, I - I don't  really like them so I can't tell you a lot about where you would specifically  hav
e chips. But I guess in a bar. Yeah I don't know that we have bar opening chips. No. No, I don't think so. Um, okay, and once you're done with your with your  chip bag - once you've done your Pub opening and you're done with your crisps bag. Crisps packet. Crisps packet. Where do you put it? In the bin. In the bin. In the trash can, yes? Yeah, the bin. And the bin fills with what? Rubbish. Ah, garbage. Okay, interesting. And then once you once you leave the  pub, and you go to get into your car.
Because you haven't had anything to drink. You go out, where is your, where is your car? In the car park. Ah, the parking lot, yes. Yes, and you notice on the front of  your car, the like clear part where you look through. You notice um a piece  of paper stuck there. Where is it stuck? On the on the wind screen. Ah, the windshield, yes. But it's um, it's dark out, so you need to take  your phone out and turn the light on your phone on so that you can see what's written on the  paper. What, what
is is called, the light? That is called a torch. Hm - a flashlight. Interesting, um, and then the next  day, after you go home from your pub. Um, sorry, I'm making this  all a little story here. Yeah. The next day you don't have work even though it's a working day,  so you have um, the opportunity to go away on a... Holiday? Yeah, not a vacation? No, no, not vacation. Okay, okay, um let's see, do you have anything to add to the story Ilona? Oh, I mean when I was walking from the pub to the car
park. Uhhuh. The the car park didn't have it the pub  didn't have its own car park so I had to walk through town to get to the car park um. And I wanted to be safe, instead of walking in the road, so I was walking on the uh, pavement. Ah, the sidewalk. Yeah. Yeah. And was was the car park on the same side of  the road? Or did you have to cross the road? I had to cross the road on a zebra Crossing. Ah, a crosswalk. Interesting um hmm. And was it cold when you were at the pub? Yes... And what were
you wearing to to stay warm? Well I was wearing a a really cozy jumper. Ah, sweater, nice nice. And what about on on your bottoms?  Sorry, on your bottom half? I wore trousers. Ah pants, yeah okay. Trousers. Interesting, and. And pants! I also wore pants. Ah, underwear! Yeah! Oh, okay, that's so interesting. That's a nice  outfit. Yeah, um, and so you told us about your snacks at the pub. You had your crisps, did you  have any um sweet things like chocolate chip? ...um ice cream... Cookies... U
h, well, no, I didn't, but my friend had some biscuits. Oh, okay, cookies, nice, cool. Um, all right, cool I think  that's the end of my story!
