Artists Turn Pets Into Anime Characters

welcome to drawfee where we take dumb ideas and make even dumber drawings i'm nathan i'm jacob i'm karina and i'm julia hey jacob what are we doing today on the show i'm so glad you asked me that question because i do have the answer for you we got a suggestion from the drafty patreon discord official discord patreon dropy discord of patreon wow from mad hat trick who suggested that we take pictures of people's pets and turn them into b stars or bna characters whichever cool animal anime we want

to do we're turning pets into anime is what we're doing jacob where do we get these pet pics the pet pics are also from discord patreon dropy official patreon discord yeah wow we have a channel there for posting pets and people posted pets and we're going to draw those pets as anime characters nathan do you want to go first i do this is a pet from good start elfie beans on the discord is a that's a snake it's topher the gopher snake amazing is a gopher snake a real thing yeah i hope so because

that's what it said on the on the one and it's what i'm gonna draw i'm doing the the bna style which is the beastmen have their like human form and beastman form that they like switch into this is all new to me because i've not watched any of bna yet i've seen exactly one episode each of bna and b stars and i decided to do bna because i like that uh animation style slightly more that's wow fair aggressive stance yeah i think damn well i was thinking is that this image has sort of nervous teen en

ergy 100 yeah totally uh so that's sort of what i was go i was gonna try and like play with that when you're on the lunch line but you see all the good lunches being taken i love this idea you're at a school and it has good lunches and bad lunches listen i went you're too late on the line i went to a school where on kanish day you either got the really good conditions or you got the usual boring bad sandwiches kanesh day yeah you've lived a different life than me canisius are delicious now natha

n yeah correct me if i'm wrong uh-huh but bna stands for big nasty animals it it stands for boku no animal it stands for boku no academia the hero is silent [Laughter] i believe it stands for brand new uh animal oh is that that sounds like a droppy premise they're like we're drawing brand new animals yeah artists drop rant studio trigger draws brand new animals yeah hey they're stealing our bit i can't wait to sue them i want to get these eyes like almost identical because like trigger they got

the all all different sorts of fun eye shapes but this is like the sort of just like cross-eyed huh like oh oh oh oh it's the it's the tight little mouth too that's really giving it yes i love this snake this is very good nathan but you know you're gonna get the people coming out the woodworks that are gonna say this isn't a snake it has lamps well i thought of that i did think of that because i i want to draw both the the human form and the snake and the snake form oh so this is the human form

this is the human form because in in bna like they're they're i don't know if there are snakes in bna i googled it i didn't see any but they got like the birds and when they're in human form they just got like human bodies but when they switch to bird form their arms turn into wings there's a like a dolphin lady whose whole bottom bit becomes like dolphin flippers or whatever but do they kind of resemble their animal forms like this uh yeah there's it's a fun design challenge i'm obviously not a

s good as the professional character designers at studio trigger who have had time to design characters but uh thank you jacob i appreciate that i was i was looking for that and i uh i appreciate that i think you're better like most character design challenges we do on this show we are just kind of doing it off the fly yeah i think you do a wonderful job given the limitations off the fly yeah i think usually it's on on the fly or off the cuff but this time we're off the floor we're off the phone

i said what i said karina pulled to me and just combined the two different phrases like that's the correct thing [Laughter] we flew too hard and got off the fly all together ethan i love this this teen is wearing a a romper hell yeah for reasons that i will make clear shortly um maybe he just likes rompers maybe just like droppers do you need a reason to wear a romper it wants to be comfy i am getting some zim vibes and i'm loving it it's a little zimmy it's a little zimmy zimmy schmidt unbreak

able zimmy schmidt i just love the way like studio trigger will just be like the the confidence with which they simplify things is something that i aspire to in my own work it's really cool i love their art style yeah i have a couple of like the lead artist art books like i recently got the one of imaishi i think that's his name the director yeah good the good as that's hot stuff right there i think a cool trick that jacob and i pulled was before quarantine began we were like hey karina can we b

orrow some of your cool books karina was like yeah absolutely and brought over her cool books and um it is it is uh it is a few months later and we still have them you can never return here i mean luckily i gave you ones that i was not actively using wow she gave us the garbage [Laughter] discerning eye knows that they are in fact lame books but knew that we would think they were cool books i feel like uh after we publish nathan's big book of dinosaur lies we'll publish karina's cool books it's

just all the books that i own it's just a photograph of every book that i own in a book page by page yeah the collection that sounds like art though honestly it's a licensing nightmare but oh so cute so since like the the pattern the rule for bna is when you become your like animal form your animal bits get accentuated it's a snake so oh we just sort of see those just go away they just go away oh but that's why the romper that's why the romper romper is little army it seems like a skirt would be

a better option what no or a dress but this but like look how funny okay look how funny we're not there yet jacob look how funny look how funny this is okay it's pretty funny look how funny that look at this funny joke i did with the drawing that's pretty good i do like that i'm feeling like some lamb before time vibes coming off this thing really little foot ass snake more like no foot because it doesn't have any it's the littlest foot you can have yeah the one that's inside your heart oh he's

op that's where you're headed amelia you can do it break the glass ceiling of cats and business i'm so excited to see this so karina are you leaning towards a certain style i don't know i mean i haven't seen boku no animal yet so um i love the b stars art style but there there's a complexity to it that i don't trust myself with not on this kind of time scale no not at all i haven't read uh b stars at all or seen the anime i think i've seen one episode in the anime but the one image that gets stu

ck in my mind is that mean wolf character doing that like slump and it's so loosely drawn it's very funny he's just standing there in the background yeah he's always slumped he's a slumpy friend the art of it's just real good it is loosey-goosey wiggle stuff yeah like the author does these really beautiful like painting pieces for like the title pages and so cool and then on the inside is like i'm going to draw the school with seven squiggles [Laughter] that's how i want to draw backgrounds beca

use also you get it you see it and you know what it is and it didn't take a thousand years presumably presumably but you don't know i don't know i'm not mr or mrs b star i don't actually know who the author is jacob you have two of my b star books yeah i know those were part of the books you took i know i look at them all the time jacob as a rule refuses to read the uh byline of literature jacob adheres to the internet uh model of nothing is created by anyone it's all just found jacob made b sta

rs i didn't make b stars it was paru [Laughter] and and she is a she and she's best known for b stars go figure so take that good work jacob she also wears a big rooster head all the time that rules which is pretty cool oh my god jacob just showed me the giant rooster head and it's wonderful it's really good i think all creators should wear a giant fake head yeah we don't need identities can mine be a giant paper mache version of my own head just bigger yeah i don't know what else it could be ho

nestly i want it to be like low poly like a n64 golden eye head yeah oh yeah very i mean it's it's incredibly sloppily made by me because i forgot that we were all doing fake heads day you had to catch up and i had to i went outside and was like oh oh cr all right uh hold on very quickly grab some newspapers got them all wet stuck them together that's the that's the back story i love the turn on this head it's so good the head shape is also just wonderful very cute very hopeful yes yeah this cat

's going places this cat is not not an ounce of irony or cynicism in her body i hope that that joy that pure joy isn't crushed by the world of big business i think this cat is going to change the world of big business for the better move over lewis b star business amelia is here the new b star of the school okay i gotta shrink this i wish that everyone when they got into business had to put business in front of their own name yeah would save us a lot of time if people just put their not i guess

m supposed to do good now yeah that's the point i don't want to well i did my best for business amelia yeah you did great okay this one was from yooka on the discord and the doggy's name is virgo oh that's good veer goulet i don't know it's v-i-r-g-u-l-e this is just a a precious creature yeah a precious pup i chose this one because the shapes are so obvious it's like a flower it's like a dog that's also a flower much like karina i wanted to make a little dumpy idiot there's definitely an energy

that all three of our selections have in common use what you're learning from this yeah the next time we ask for user submissions to sway our opinions i picked like four options for this episode and eventually i went with the dumpy idiot so i think there is four for four yeah the the idiot range we're dealing with goes all the way from optimistic idiot to frightened idiot yeah and then we've got we got this friend right in the middle he's just happy to be here down below where you fall on the i

diot scale sort of a sort of a gremlin he's gonna have sort of like confident idiot energy like a like a tiny himbo oh my god oh that's kind of what i'm thinking like he thinks he can do anything just as good as the the big dogs can and maybe he can and maybe he can you know you gotta watch the whole series to find out i'm not gonna tell him no is this gonna be another extended universe do all of our critters co-inhabit they must all go to high school together business amelia has like a full-tim

e office job but still goes to high school yeah maybe she's like an intern oh that's why she sold them all [Laughter] that's what this dog's saying [Laughter] absolutely hey jacob no offense this is great um honestly that's incredibly rude because what if it gets worse well what if it's just what if it's just this face oh yeah i'm i'm moving moving [Laughter] because i want to get sort of i'm trying to like figure out exactly how i want to do it and it's hard this perfect sort of pedal shape hea

d and then it's surrounded by like a beard yeah that's just going all over the place get some of these outside fuzzies that kind of go up like this kind of a flame of a head yeah he's a little calcifer right now uh then big old ears yes kind of reminding me of like like a lilly pup with yeah i was about to say this is a pokemon oh yeah it kind of is huh which i mean kindly pet anime is the title of this episode pokemon is an anime pokemon is the ultimate pet anime i like that the all of these ch

aracters are from different anime but they do all go to high school together mine is so far the only one with two forms well these ones could have different forms yeah that's true they're implied and i gotta get these like these like big anime wispies oh has yeah which are kind of like antenna this looks like it would be endeavour's dog endeavors dog yeah boku no animal no animal god what if what if boku no animal were about the pets of all of the heroes and my hero the secret life of pets my he

ro because everyone watches and they're like cool but what's endeavor's dog doing yeah endeavors fighting a uh morphing monster in the skies above the city but what about his what about his cute little pooch what's going on there this is a dog that i would call squirt he's a little like a little squirt oh definitely squirt i think i want like one hand up just kind of like a i want like a number one it looks like maybe he's giving a rude finger he looks like he's yeah no yes okay never mind stop

there we go that's always my concern when drawing a finger is that i'm i'm accidentally drawing the rude finger i mean it's a real concern a lot of people face that struggle every day yeah i guess all all fingers it's unfair that one finger just has the reputation of the rude finger when all fingers can do rude things you know at some cultures pointing is rude so the blaming julia you're so right thanks i know uh i am gonna finish this drawing at some point you don't have to so don't worry about

that none of us were worried i wasn't i don't have to design a character okay just making sure it's kind of rude that you put this dog in a t-shirt or a rolled up sleeve shirt when they are clearly wearing a vest they're not wearing a vest they're wearing a vest in the photos rude that's not a vest that's a harness [Laughter] julie i don't know if you noticed but nobody kept the character in their original clothing i did you know you added a full suit which contained the original clothing well

i'm not gonna make this dog who has agency of his own wear a harness to school maybe he's wearing a harness underneath you know doesn't cocky has pointy toes in the photo so i do like that he's got cool boots everyone shut up i don't you couldn't even see the harness if it was there because of all of the the scruff oh i love it i love it this is great some little little action triangles i'm gonna be the best um i think i'm done this is this is beer ghoul i hope you like it yuka i had a lot of fu

n drawing it it even sounds like a pokemon that's true yeah it does uh julia are you uh okay it's me guess what i chose another little idiot burro rex doggo oh the squirt little happy to be here when i chihuahua mix did you get the name of the dog was that in the info or no no it wasn't in the info wow i mean i can double check but so we don't even know this this is a mystery dog this is the mystery transfer student i love the idea of a mysterious character that's also a big dummy yeah that smil

e if you had a real high school of animals everybody would be an idiot the application for this high school the the in-person interview they're like do you exude idiot energy and they're like what they're like you're in they're like are you an animal and they're like what you're in i love this dog's happy face yes so happy to be such a good dog smile yeah some photogenic ass animals i didn't know a snake could be photogenic but like topher done melted my heart topher wiggled his way into your ar

teries and he lives there now yeah it makes it hard to breathe but that's okay i wouldn't have it any other way so this is the transfer student that no one knows should we name this dog i guess that can come organically as we go yeah i think we're going to have to feel out the personality yeah because right now it's just a friendly it's just a friend yeah yeah but as you draw it i'm sure we'll get some hints of like what's this dog's personality is he confident is he cocky is he nervous what's h

e thinking about dog stuff probably dog stuff most dogs are thinking about dog stuff i wish i could go like one day inside the mind of our pets yeah cause like today olive turned around and saw joy and like freaked out she was like who are you like she had no idea what that was and what what it was gonna do to her and i was like talking to julia and i'm just like they spend 24 hours a day together and this is the only life they know and occasionally olive will forget what joy is maybe olive was

just doing a bit it could have been a bit cat jokes yeah maybe it is cat jokes just like i'm gonna today don't tell jacob and julia but today i'm gonna act like i've never seen you before in my life joy's just like sounds great that sounds like a super funny and it was they'll be so confused by that okay we got this is such a happy dinky face yeah it's kind of like please be my friend i'm worried i'm new i'm new and i'm scared teach me about the different cliques in the school i don't know where

to eat my lunch do you know what the face reminds me of do you know that clip of like the little kid who's being interviewed and he like starts he starts laughing and then he starts crying halfway through this is the this is the moment of transition this is the transitional moment between laughing and crying you don't know which direction it's coming from or heading towards this is right in the middle it's about to shift yeah it's definitely someone putting on a brave face i love that so excite

e a bit of of like squirt jock energy because they got this like wide stance you know and they they look this dog looks pretty muscular so that's just what i'm feeling make a squirt jock do it but not like a jerk jock they're like the nice the nice jock they're the jock that like when you're watching you're like i bet that person's an and you get to know them and you're like oh i misjudged it turns out i was the judgmental one yeah not the jock and i have to re-examine my biases i sometimes thin

k about how i was probably the biggest the biggest jerk in my high school because i just assumed my my status as as nerdy boy and was like well none of the cool kids are going to want to be my friend so i'm not even going to try so i'm not even going to try and they were probably like what's his problem i've thought about that too they probably couldn't have cared less and would have just been like oh he seems nice if i had seemed nice if i did not i did not seem nice it's just one of those thin

gs you learn as you as you grow up it's like oh i could have just i could have just been friendly to everyone most people just want to be be ben friendly too yeah they want to be ben friendly too bad friendly is my favorite translation they want you to be ben friendly oh my god is this this dog's name it's the dog this is ben friendly most people want to be ben friendly he's a hero he lost his eye saving another student from a truck accident it just says yes yes oh see now he looks like emotiona

l because he's thinking about all the all the good he sees in everyone yeah and how much they're how much good they're gonna do he's like i see a bright future for all of us that's his power that's what he sees he can see everyone's potential that's his quirk boku no animal his quirk is called bright future he's also very strong yeah damn damn bruh he's like a little meatball he's he's looking less squirt right now and looking like a tall strong no i like it like a toss strong man who was gonna

hit you well he's not gonna hit you he's gonna he's gonna inspire you yeah he's gonna hit you with feelings he's gonna grab you by the shoulders and look deep into your soul and say you have a bright future i can see it and it's so beautiful i can't express that's that pure emotion in his eyes yeah this is a dog who's in touch with his emotions he's wearing one of them school jackets it looks like he'd be on the school roof looking out over the city with this face with this face yeah this would

be like towards the end of the anime me looking at my city and he's reflecting on all they've been through it's like all you need is some broad shoulders and a high collar to go from like halfway between laughing and crying because it's a lot versus versus halfway between laughing and crying because you're so proud yeah of everyone this one says like yeah it's a lot but we can manage it together it's a lot of potential yeah for greatness maybe the real pets are the friends we made along the way

it's a whole look this is the graduation outfit came out and everyone he like opened the jacket and everyone just started like inspired crying yeah they burst into tears when they saw that you can for so long it was just yes like this is what he's been hiding all along a belief in us he's got the the diploma baseball bat oh oh captain of the baseball team it could be it could be could be he just got here but he is captain of the baseball team this this kind of reminds me of uh the chips the chip

s dog oh my god i forgot about the chips dog what a good episode that is yeah chip stock extended universe oh i'm so excited for people to see that one [Laughter] they will have by the time they're hearing us saying this i'm so excited for people to have been already seen that one yes you can you can you can jacob all right this is this is my animal this is ben friendly he looks like a pen friendly i love this what a good class of characters we got from this uh i'd watch this anime for sure well
