have suspended the search for survivors around the now collapsed Francis Scott Key bridge six people are now believed dead lost when a cargo ship ran into the bridge causing it to crumble officials say it appears to be an accident and a power issue on the ship may be to blame the collapse is already sparking widespread concern over the economic impact of that area as seeing those images of that bridge collapsing for a lot of people reminds them of 17 years ago when the 35W bridge in Minneapolis
went down Fox nights Mary McGuire joins us now to talk more about that and the impact this is still having on First Responders Mary well Randy tonight the 35W bridge is lit up in red white and yellow the colors of the Maryland state flag today's disaster in Baltimore brought back memories for so many here in Minnesota including those First Responders who were there that day 17 years ago the images of the Baltimore bridge collapse are almost unbelievable it's a site former henpen County Sheriff R

@DobieDad

As a USCG Licensed Captain (Retired) myself, NOBODY has asked THE most important questions yet. 1) The Captain Radioed ahead, reported he was having mechanical issues, why were there no tug boats dispatched for assistance? 2) Was the Harbor Pilot onboard at the time of losing power? 3) Were the USCG Rules followed? 4) Was the USGG notified in advance, and what was their response? They had to have a command station at that large port.

@Marebear-bt4rp

A friend of mine lost his Wife and oldest son... in the 35w bridge collapse..... 😢😢😢

@maxrshelltrack7443

You can't compare this to 35w because a ship crashed into it didn't just collapse on its own.

@mrmelmba

A major bridge with nothing protecting the piers despite the risk of collision from marine traffic? In regions where ice flows may impact a bridge during spring breakup piers are protected with rip rap. Essentially a tiny island is formed by dumping rock and soil. This is the cheapest material and the easiest to place. The cost of this protection relative to the cost of the bridge is not considerable. If a pier is surrounded by a coffer dam soil can be dredged from the river bed and pumped into place forming an island.

@bodega-hive7996

What you mean lost😢. Omg. I’m praying for all those families. 🙏🏽

@hobog

No, mpls' collapse was from DoT negligence to maintain the bridge. Baltimore collapse is from something maritime, while the bridge was structurally fine

@lindawomack5515

Praying for all the families 😢

@kylejividen5780

The more accurate comparison is the collapse if the skyway bridge in Tampa Bay Florida. Also struck by a ship

@ladyplatinum3281

What about The travelers that was on the bridge in their cars nobody is talking about them I'm pretty sure it's more than six people dead

@AnaZia-nn3ug

Politicians approved money for endless wars, but not for a crumbling infrastructure. Old bridges that haven’t been upgraded , this kind of bridge should be built to withstand these kind of incidents. Govt is to blame.

@wmorgan9331

That old I35W bridge was scary to drive on. It was like a trampoline bouncing up and down.

@robinkerns722

I live in MN and I remember that!

@lilwarrioraleena

I was watching tv right when the news broke of the 35W collapse, I remember frantically calling my mom to make sure she safe.

@dannywestbrook5036

God bless the ones involved as well as their families

@DeuceGenius

Holy crap. I couldnt imagine being in a car on the bridge when that happens. What a horrible way to go

@Raven5431

35W failure to invest in our infrastructure. This is potentially negligance in more ways than one.

@BLOXKAFELLARECORDS

This is historically DECESTATING IM SO TRIGGERED.

@skerhnekia5762

Too much talking less searching and recovering!

@thehorizontries4759

“What a tragedy. It reminds us of this thing that happened to us years ago on the other side of the country. Now run a segment on that instead of the thing that just happened.”
