during the legendary Battle of camaron 65 foreign legionnaires fought against 3,000 Mexicans despite being offered surrender the French soldiers had arrived in that City at dawn on 30th April 1863 to secure the roads for a convoy as they were about to rest 3,000 Mexican soldiers suddenly attacked the French retreated to a Hender on the outskirts of the town where they took up positions for a last stand for the next 8 hours the French repelled all Mexican attacks k killing 300 and wounding 500 mo
re until only five legionnaires were left standing their ammunition exhausted in this desperate situation the French launched a bayonet charge two men fell outright and the rest was surrounded and overwhelmed ordered by the Mexicans to surrender a legionaire Corporal answered we will only surrender if you leave us our weapons and equipment you must also take care of our wounded lieutenant
