["Glow Worm" by The Mills Brothers playing] [music cuts off] (Dr. Tim T. Beaver) 6:28. Restate my hypotheses. One, the power of admissions letters grows with MIT's global influence. Two, the power manifests in electric- (Admissions Officer, offscreen) Dr. Tim, The letters, they're, they're starting to explode! As you predicted, Professor Feynman's Nobel Prize seems to be responsible. Any progress? (Dr. Tim T. Beaver) We are still working on the metallic envelope. The aluminum lining dissipates t
he charge on the letters. (Admissions Officer) And what's that over there? (Dr. Tim T. Beaver) The energy comes from somewhere. Might be a vacuum instability... Parallel universe... If the envelope accidentally folds the paper before delivery, that extra density might set off- (Admissions Officer) Hang on. Are you saying that when we close that envelope, there's a chance that we destroy the universe? (Dr. Tim T. Beaver) Chances are near zero. (Admissions Officer) Near zero?! (Dr. Tim T. Beaver)
What do you want from theory alone? (Admissions Officer) Another solution would be nice. Look, Tim, you're the best engineer we've ever had. I trust you to see it through. (Dr. Tim T. Beaver) Hmm. Two, the power manifests in an accumulation of electric charge. Three, a metal surface can dissipate the charge. The letter just needs to touch the metal. But... if it folds... ["Can You Hear The Music" by Ludwig Goransson playing] There must be an easier way. Wait. What if it curved? Curvature. Tensio
n. [audio echoes] Use the tension, pi r squared. (Professor) We assume static equilibrium. So, how do we get the displacements? Well, remember, for this circular cross section... ...the area moment of inertia... ...pi r to the fourth over four. (Dr. Tim T. Beaver) Pi r squared. Pi. [music stops, silence other than a light wind] ["Come Fly With Me" by Frank Sinatra playing] (Admissions Officer) Dr. Tim? It's March 13th and we need to get these admissions letters out tomorrow. (Dr. Tim T. Beaver)
Listen- (Admissions Officer) There are thousands of admits that are waiting- (Dr. Tim T. Beaver) Thank you. Thank you. But I've completely solved the problem. Send them all. ♪ Pack up, let's fly away ♪ ["American Prometheus" by Ludwig Goransson playing]

The fact that MIT makes better films than Hollywood

If this is what MIT produces after reading our applications, then I’m scared.

I don’t know you guys, but me and my family find this very funny. Like it both embodies the spirit of over engineering that is inside of us and the consideration of every particular of our creations. It must be round!!! Lol Near zero chance the world’s gonna explode?? Whaaat When the beaver put the aluminum on the paper it reminded my childhood when I was making circuits to warm up (and do leds, but was especially to warm up because the school at that hour was gelid) with the nun with aluminum and batteries while I was waiting for school. Idk why I tell this to you, maybe sharing?, it’s a bit late here and thinking about this all just shows all your life in its best moment in front of your eyes. I think tomorrow I’ll call that nun (Madre Annamaria). I’ll bring a pie in my class during π-day
