with Christine Romans now so tell us more about what happens if we see another CR this shortterm resolution and why does that keep happening and I have my own metaphor this is a placeholder it's not policy this is not doing the people's business it's doing the bare minimum and this happens to be the way our business has been going quite frankly over the past what 10 years this is what we've been doing over and over again just continuing resolutions CRS again and again instead of making policy an
d tough decisions uh to get the government running so we do know that the Democrats and Republican leadership have set a spending Target in January when we were fighting about this last time $1.59 trillion what they're hashing out now is how to actually spend it here's something else interesting because of a Twist in the law from last year again when we were having a shutdown threat and continuing resolution fights there could be an automatic 1% cut to all agencies if they're still doing this co
ntinuing resolution Rodeo by the end uh of April and that would be even cuts to defense for example this is all uh just not the way to run a business and certainly not the government of the largest economy in the world all the research shows that it's very unstable financial planning for all of these agencies uh the pause in hiring and training is incredibly difficult as Garrett even said you know you're talking about a scenario where you could have the IRS in the middle of tax season with a gov
ernment shutdown we need air traffic controllers to be trained you could have training pause there so there are a lot of reasons why this is just not great it's also not great for the public confidence in the American government look at this the last time we were fighting over a shutdown back in September this poll shows that both Democrats and Republicans their trust in government uh Amit a shutdown threat uh a declining because of of what happened there so look it's not good way to run a gover
nment not good way to run an economy not good for the public trust there's so much uncertainty absolutely thank you so much Roman good to see you too

The Lincoln Project said it time and time again. This is how every dictatorship starts .

@badger1170

We pay upwards of $2 billion per year in salaries, benefits, retirement, office expenses, staff costs, etc. for the 535 members of Congress. Time to cut off all pay and benefits until they pass a budget. No work; no pay.

@JerrodSchumacher-fc1wr

Until these fascists are voted out no more holding the budget hostage

@user-ij6vg8xq2r

The Johnson method: leave it out until there's one day left to expiration, then put leftovers back in the fridge unwrapped.

@RotisserieCrematorium

I prefer my President not to be owned by Putin.

@hghffgrantor8559

It doesn't bother me supporting Ukraine because I'm smart enough to know how it benefits us too. But paying these inept politicians to drive our country into the gutter is what really bothers me.

@DavidJ222

Re publicans in the House have done more for Poootin than they have done for their own constituents back home. True story.

@terrencekane8203

I thought Kevin McCarthy would go down in history as the number 1 clown as speaker. I stand corrected.

@stevstro4498

Sadly, Mike Johnson could go down as a hero in US history as a result of standing up to Donald Trump and his MAGA party's insanity, rather than cementing his role as Trump's errand boy. What a legacy to leave.

@pinkakagreen

No more CR's!! Overpaid politicians

@joelayoub2774

Biden should veto the bill unless congress passes border reform legislation.

@searchandsave142

You want to convince Republicans how government could save money? Here’s an idea how about cutting all government programs such as social security, Medicaid and others from Rebublican run states and evenly distributing them to democratic states.

@alansmith4734

Make America Great Again, by closing the US Government! (sarcasm)

@donaldaustin1275

It's funny, to see "GOP" and "...plan..." in the same sentence. Seems, to me, like they just wing-it at every opportunity - with nary a care, or plan, to be had!

@mac888spectral7

GOP and "Plan" in the same sentence. Oh this ought to fabulous 🙄

@Alikhan-tl8om

if the Republican party leadership even thinks he's ready to cave and make a deal rush through a quick vote of no confidence and immediately remove him as speaker of the house

@imjoebuckyall2891

As a loyal Democrat, I will gladly pay a flatulence tax to appease the climate god Gaia.

@TooBadThatDidntKillMe

Good News: Mitchelangelo going to step down in November.

@TrumpMakesLeftiesCryAgain

Thank you speaker Johnson for saying F J B and not funding Ukraine any further 🎉🎉🎉🎉
