hi everybody Dr. Jon Saunders here I'm here with my son Silas say hi Silas look at the camera hi we're here demonstrating posture when it comes to iPads or books or whether you sew if you play video games if you're studying for a test this posture is not good there are studies that you know as far back it's 10 years as recent as 2015 that show that up to 10% of children will have asymptomatic spinal arthritis as diagnosed by MRI what that means that is their discs are undergoing degenerative cha
nges at ten years old I personally believe that one of the reasons is because of the lifestyle and because of us consistently looking down whether it be with an iPad or a book or from video game or sewing that's why this advice is not only good for our kids but also for adults one thing we've all done is we've said to our kids, Silas sit up a bit, we've said that to them and they do it right away but we know that this is not sustainable his head is still tilted down so it does still have a lot
of pressure in his neck so we know this position isn't the best solution now I can see Silas starting slump down again what we don't want to see is that the head come forward or the ear come past the shoulder that's a good indication there's a lot of pressure on the nerves in the neck there's a lot of pressure on the discs and the ligaments it's setting the child up even though it might be asymptomatic now but it's setting the child up for a future degeneration and we see that all the time in ad
ults as in patients in our office so I'm going to give you one tip that could literally change the outcome of your children's lives and even adults so Silas can you get in the position that mommy and daddy like you to get into when you're reading a book yes thank you and get your elbows up there you go in your head back not so close to your face so this position you can see he you know he's straight he's got a nice smooth curve in his neck his head is back over his shoulder so you can see his ea
r over shoulders this is the best position that you can for a sustained posture of reading a book playing video games whatever you might be doing this is the least offensive now it isn't perfect but it is significantly less stress through the spinal cord through the discs and just putting yourself in this position whether it be your children or yourself or your teenager this will have a dramatic impact on reducing the effects of the pressure going through the discs, reducing pressure on the nerv
es but equally important sustaining or at least maintaining your future quality of life if you have any questions comment below I'd like you to like it share it with someone you know that has kids or that you know that has a teenager that you know slumps over their their computer or their cell phone all day long it could drastically change the impact of their future quality life until next time be well...thanks buddy.

I have neck pain for almost 2 years and I believe it all started from this posture, It was nov 2019 where i was playing on my mobile phone with this posture and when I sat down i feel a little numbness in my neck thought it was normal, but then after 1-2 days I feel pain in my neck and feel uncomfortable about it. I have not been checked by any doctors cuz I just ignored it and also thought that I could help myself out but I still have neck pain till now 😔
