In the heart of uganda's untamed Karamoja
region we embark on an extraordinary journey to discover one of the wildest parts
of Africa. It's not looking very promising guys! Armed with the challenge of harvesting Africa's Black
Death using a bow and arrow. Buffalo hunting! what we anticipated as an intense Nile
buffalo hunt turned out to be far more than expected this documentary captures
perhaps the craziest hunting story I have ever experienced. A tale Against All Odds encompassing
the lo
west of lows and the highest of highs proving that hunting and nature
always unfold their own plans. Have you fly before or not?
first day? oh my God so many times flying. In the northeastern corner of Uganda in the Karamoja
region between South Sudan and Kenya lies a Hidden Gem. Dekirepo Valley one of the last true
Wilderness areas in the country nice to see you I'm happy too Pedro Emma Emma and Emma nice to see you guys [Applause]
[Music] welcome What are you doing? good morning
how are y
ou we are back in Uganda back after Buffalo and back to finish what we
weren't able to finish earlier this spring First stalk of the trip we have located three
bulls and we're we have got the good wind and we're going to try to sneak and see if we
can relocate them again so starting to have like stomach ache and getting too excited.
Exactly it wasn't our first time in Karamoja everything is started earlier that year
and it's crucial to understand the whole story. We need a strong constant
wind Buffalo they don't have very good eyesight but very good nose
so you have to beat the nose one bedded. it was good, good job! first
stalk of the trip yeah It was our first morning and
we already got under 50 yards of a group of Buffalo, it seems that we're
going to have a very promising week ahead of us. Jeofrey better
if you don't stay there yeah no no no you are my fire no one Uganda boasts rich in wildlife and
diversity with numerous species in reasonable good numbers our Quest how
ever
is solely focused on Buffalo we resist the temptation to be distracted by chasing any
other game fully aware of the Monumental challenge ahead of us, particularly on this
part of the continent we are chasing a quite unique species of Buffalo commonly
referred as the Nile Buffalo. is Mango Bango... highly increase
your chances of finding buffalo. Why we are carrying so many
security? Cause we we carry a Ranger and a soldier and a soldier from the army yes. Because there is a
lot of po
aching going on and a lot of the poaching done here is by what they call they call themselves
Warriors but they're not really Warriors the band of armed guys that are coming across it
come some come can come even from Kenya the toas they come from Kenya they come in band and
sometime we may encounter something somebody and we may have a problem they're not after us they
want cattle and want to poach it's better to be on the safe side. The ranger is mandatory as long
as you hunt you have to
have a Ranger with you on one side because a the the Uganda Authority
they need the data and second because all the trophy fees from animal 90% is going to the
local community so have to know where it has been shot so you know either the land on or
the community that was there so you know how the the trophy fee is being a portioned after
okay yeah makes sense. As another day comes to an end without any action we Retreat to our tents
only to encounter a quite unique visitor. Put the tent the
Puff adder highly venomous biper species found in Africa responsible for more Snake
Bite fatalities than any other African snake. At least we got some unspected action. just relocated the bull from yesterday 100 m away but we spook the hartebeest
and now it's looking this way. Wrong wind and he just smelled us. There are a lot
of things that need to line up to shoot a buffalo with a bow, you need to find the right
Bull on the perfect spot with enough cover and good wind to be able to approac
h it close enough
if the bull Isn't alone you need to get under 30 yards of the one you want without any other animal
noticing you in addition then the bull needs to collaborate and offer you a completely relaxed
broadside shot definitely way too many things I'm not sure if we have any Shooters not that we
can be super picky but I think they are not old enough. we have relocated the bull
again its bedded it again in inside the bush got to 28 M the wind switched
between trees I could barely
see him between the grass so I think it was too risky. Another day comes to an end fifth day of
hunting we only have a couple more days to hunt we are definitely getting closer, not close
enough because there's a lot of variables but yeah has been a hell of a fun day so. Wiston
Churchill named Uganda the pearl of Africa but with the population increase, habitat loss,
and poaching the Pearl isn't Shinning as brightly hunting in a concession near the Kidepo national park
highlighted the Star
k differences the farther you venture in Community Land the less Wildlife
you see, the park has way more resources to preserve game keeping poaching and people under
control by using a vast number of Rangers and Military. Outside of that only the Hunter's Money
is fighting to keep wild animals in place avoiding the more efficient transformation of land into
Agricultural and farming which will be the end of wildlife after six full days of
hunting not even my dad has had the right opportunity
but as Churchill said
we can only offer you blood, toil, sweat and tears. This the arrow that we are shooting these are
two blade German kinetics 25 grain with 95 inserts so total weight of 670, these are the victory VSS
250 caliber four Blazers to make sure that that Arrow flies straight hopefully we can test
it on a buffalo and check if it was a a good choice. We are running out of ideas
we have located a group of 10 or 15 Buffalo Bed open ground and we are using a
net to try to see how
close we can get 45 M but what we thought
it was a a nice bull it turned out to be a really really old white
cow so now what are we looking for. Do you guys see all the these
vultures? they are starving they have been a week starving they are ready for some meat. There's something special about
the fire in Africa tomorrow is our last day of hunting I already know that bow hunting
it's hard I have come empty-handed a lot of times uh you train and work for that not
to happen I can feel the
pressure about tomorrow if we get a the slightest smallest
opportunity tomorrow I need to make it count. My stomach just like Feels Like a
Rock we are running out of time the clock is ticking.... ticking or clicking? ticking
yeah so we'll take fingers crossed guys! I just shot the Buffalo pretty long shot they flew
great but I don't know if you it went it was a total pass through or what because I couldn't see
the Fletching on the Arrow so I'm not sure what happened you got up to here becau
se you see the
rubber. That was a stressful guys I don't know if I risk it too much... one of the old bulls that has
a broken horn is was there standing broadside I took a range measured, adjust the sight, draw back
and the shot felt great maybe a tiny bit low but I'm not sure because I had a limb that kind of had
to shoot over but the penetration is good there's blood but yeah I don't a lot of uncertainties
these are really really big animals and I'm not sure. Destiny brought us to the las
t day I Arrowed one
Bull in there we were tracking and suddenly we see my dad that we thought that was coming to help
us we saw them like crawling... and like why they are crawling? may may they have seen the wounded one
or not but they relocated the Buffalo that they have been chasing for for three days for three
days that has a snare in the neck and placed two beautiful shots and the Buffalo is down so we may
have doubled in 20 minutes difference or something yes yes we have to check we w
e still need to
look for my bull but anyways I can't believe that we saw two Buffalo on the last day after seven
days of working seven days of working and no one opportunity. Now let's look for the other one okay So we are going to start tracking the Buffalo
it's very thick area we don't know, we thing is a good shot but we are not seeing any blood so
we are going to be prepared for anything because this this can turn west any minute. One thing that
help me decide to take my shot was that t
he bull was very easy to recognize when in large herds all
the Bulls can look alike but ours was unique with a left broken horn and a floppy right ear here
we could recognize it on a heart beat. But with this rain it's going to be possible
to track... it's not looking very promising guys! We have been tracking for a few hours and
with the rain and the tall grass and such a big herd because the the bull was being pushed by such
a large herd we cannot find any tracks, a single drop of blood
or anything so I'm not sure if we
are looking at the wrong side if we are looking I don't know... very very very unfortunate I still
have the feeling that it was a good shot but time will tell and this is bow hunting sometimes
you never you will never know the answer and it sucks but it's part of the beauty if you
don't like it don't bow hunt or don't hunt we often we always thinking should I have taken this?
should I have waited? would have been better to do this? and after the fact of som
ething happen it's
easy to decide what will have been done better but I was telling Peter what was the saying
never regret your mistakes because it's worse to regret the chances you didn't take
so I don't regret having taken that shot. you don't get it... next time! we'll be back. this is exactly the same area where I wounded
the Buffalo a few months ago they have been watching that Buffalo completely fine
it's very easy to recognize because it has a broken left horn so it's very easy to
i
dentify and it's completely fine so if we can locate that bull again it will
be amazing but I think we have low chances. In comparison with bullets that burn and
Destroy tissue archery wounds are so clean that if not located on a lethal spot animals
will completely recover and heal sometimes in hours, I have seen it many times so
the news from the Rangers of the bull is still being alive and doing fine did
not surprise me but was honestly a great relief. What do you think Pieter? there's
t
oo many of them too many that's the thing we need to find the right Bull on the right
spot and that he alone yeah lot of variables. Have you ever tried to call
them me or not? I know that people have tried. Buffalo are winning. So what do you think about my
calling?your voice is very nice. That! he replied !later maybe you. Good? Plan? pretty cool start of the trip we have seen
plenty of Buffalo big herds uh we have stretched our legs, shoot the bow, everything
is looking fine and tomorrow
game time. Elephants! Prety cool! there's a big group
of elephants over there around 20 there's a few males right? yeah. It's just a view That You Don't
See often in Africa because when you are walking around with so much money on your mouth uh you are
in trouble so yeah pretty sad there there's not that many but whenever you get to see them... you're
pretty lucky. How old do you think those are? maybe 35 the Bulls 35 40 they're not massive bulls but
they good. How old do they get? up to 60
80 up to a 100 buffalo are coming straight to our position. so close! that there was only one mature bull
in the whole herd, was right in the middle around 50 60 no shot no opportunity but the
wind Swift and they gone .that was exciting though. hello how are you? many poachers
or not? no no. in trouble no? poachers in trouble! That's not used for the bomb. for that? the put a fuse then you fix this is for fighting for guiding country
let me say for guiding country we want our country to be
safe no stance that is what
we want and that one is very fast and this one. And there's a lot of problems? yes here we
have a lot of Warriors or what do they come here for? they came here for killing animals
someing they come here for poaching some of the Warriors they come and raid some they go to
kabo because this point here it's the middle point this is kabo this is Karena and this is. So
thank you for keeping us safe! Welcome! we have seen a very old long bull and that's
exactly what w
e need one Bull, big and by own so kind of getting good inside those bushes we're
sneaking slowly try to see if we can relocate it. the Buffalo was bedded in that bush and
he came out towards us and we freaked out we freaked out we were not expecting that
and the Buffalo charged towards us look at how far is that 15 m? [ __ ] I'm shaking I'm shaking my leg is shaking. shaking Peter how will you explain the difference
when you're class in a big group because it looks Pieter how would you exp
lain the
difference wen you are glassing because it looks like pretty obvious what it's a bull and a
um an a cow until they are all mixed up so I think first of all if you see them at a distance
you'll notice the size of them uh the thickness of the horn the width of the Horn uh what we are
looking for as dger boys mostly they got mut on them they they a bit of a different color as well
young Bulls is is more darker the older bulls get a bit more gray in it okay so and then the dup
and obv
iously you look for the penis or balls sack and what's the main difference between a younger
Bull and an older one? When you guys talk about soft boss with the two horns meet on the skull you'll
see where it's a shiny but where they meet that is the young Bulls you know we call that a soft
Boss soft boss then uh the older the older animals would already have some growth growing there you
can see that it's a it's rough on the ages as it has been worked for sometime Nile Buffalo is known
for
the shape of being flat you know they don't have a lot of a drop in it so that's that's one
of the the main differences that you can spot on the on the Nile Buffalo compared to the Cape Buffalo
it's a lot of things that small things that you can just add together and come to a conclusion
which sounds easy until you are in Tall Grass you can only see between trees and you can only
see what that's the problem if you don't see the boss you just see the top of the horns and you
think maybe thi
s is a a bull but then you come there it's a wide cow you know yeah so you
have to be careful. All right! Now that we have been already hunting nine days
together with the bow what do you think about bow hunting? You prefer not to say anything
if you were here with a rifle in these two days we probably could have
three or four Buffalos, With the bow... still got to go! There's like I don't know hundreds
of Buffalo so I'm not sure how we're to get close but we're going
to get a closer look
at least enjoy them. Guides like Pieter are rare for some guiding
Hunters is just a job for others it's a passion they make a living from Pieter endures weeks
of battling Che-che flies with standing the heat belly crawling through Tall Grass driving
endless roads all without the Sweet Taste of finding success says. Everything with
a big smile at all times which make us unstoppable. Akuedo what were you saying? what do you
think about Saint Hubertus? the saint that takes care of all the hunt
ers. Oh yes I was saying St Hubertus is
still planning for our best trophy he's taking his time taking his time to make it perfect to
make it best ,but is the first time you pray to him, yeah it is the first time because I never
knew who is the this person, I mean this Saint is. the last ones to cast The
Rain not to touch us this you know this with this heavy rains they can also cause some
differences to us so now this rain will not come. I just spotted in a really really old
Bull like sup
er old all the bosses are like super smooth and shiny so I'm not sure if it's
alone or not but that's the kind of Bull we want. That green three that dark
three that is where we need to get. 60 meters. 23 M my mouth is so dry right now. Damn that was [ __ ] exciting you see like
it's completely that way and we were 20 M from three Bulls so they don't get it old
for no reason [ __ ] I'm shaking like adrenaline my mouth is so dry, we are shoked that was
fun good job Roberto thank you. Appreci
ate it next time! It turns out that the buffalo in
Uganda are very social and it's working out pretty well so far safety in numbers. Was Pieters idea
so don't give all the [ __ ] ideas to be mine now If I say s something stupid should blame Pieter? I think
I don't have makeup on for all this camera near me. Papa God of my ancestors my grandpa help my
Visitor get what he had come for we believe my ancestors as you have been one one of the best
hunters in Napore and you killed five Buffalos a
nd you were arrested by government but now
we are in a modern hunting give us also a very good topic today we ask this through
you our grandfather amen amen. This is our 11th day hunting Buffalo this season
so I think we deserve a little bit of luck. is the one with the broken horn
might be the one and maybe give us a second a second chance it would look amazing. That's the broken horn one. to far back. To far back? wait wait
wait wait wait let me check the distance it's [ __ ] good it's [
__ ] it's
[ __ ] it's [ __ ] wait don't shoot please don't shoot I think it's [ __ ] I
think he died I think he dropped he's down buddy oh that's the broken horn 5 months later. Just give time I think it was lungs got the lungs. The same bull that i wounded 5 months ago,
we relocated him, it was alive. Great shot 57yds I think he's de give him
some I think he's going to do the I believe that Buffalo is not breathing I
think he died in a minute they praying the prayers to my ancestor, one sh
ot? the was
far far ?but like you had confident broken horn! the ancestors smile
up. Let's call my father right? What a beast it's an Ancient
Ancient buffalo super super old and you see how polish it is all hard boss you can see a
bunch of age Rings here all polish broken off I cannot think of a better Bull and it just died in
seconds. The arrow shot completely healed you see the two blades here and it did nothing to it
completely fine same one with the broken ear the penetration was excel
lent
so maybe it was quaring away So we have brought some of the meat
of the Buffalo to spread it to the through the local community so we are bringing to
the town where actually we shot the buffalo in so they appreciate the management they
try to protect the animals and they see the value of people from abroad coming to
hun them and at the end is their buffalo it's their meat and they for sure are
going to enjoy it so pretty cool to see I still have a hard time believing we found
the sam
e bull exactly on the same place same left broken horn and right floppy ear it's
a lot of coincidences a few more scars and a little more beat up horns but the same old
bull that did not want to leave his territory niether this planet. The biggest differences is
that we can make a lot of mistakes but animals can only afford making one really lucky ones
two. Despite worrying a lot when things don't go as planned I always keep in mind that
St.Hubertus has a bigger plan for us you just need to
be patient enough to Discover It.
Against All Odds we experience something we thought was impossible but that that's
just the nature of hunting. Until next time Uganda.

Sin duda este será el trofeo mas singular que tengas aunque no el mas bonito pero la belleza esta en el lance y la historia de el, la cual recordaras cada vez que lo mires, saludos y en hora buena por tan magnifico animal.
That is an amazing story! Thanks for sharing this awesome experience... congratulations to you and your father!
what an amazing video!! could you provide the info of the wide angle lens you use ?? the video quality its amazing 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
This is truly inspiring, thank you for the content you create. I dream of one day having bow hunting adventures like this!
Incredible story. Incredible hunts. Your commitment to sticking with the bow is awesome. My dad strictly bowhunted for over 20 years. Just this passed fall, he killed a beautiful whitetail with his bow at the age of 76.
