well get ready sparber you guys are in for a treat the Kings singers they have over 500 years of of experience they're Grammy award-winning group and they're coming to the United States uh and sparenberg specifically coming up tonight the 26th and I'm joined by two of the the group members we have Jonathan Howard and Edward button thank you both so much for joining us thank you for having us thank you yeah so let's talk about the Kings singers I mean I guess it gives a a long lineage of the hist
ory that you guys have as as an organization going back 500 years but for folks who have never heard of the singers before uh give us a little background it's interesting what you're saying because the king sing is are Splinter of the King's College Choir which was founded when King's College Cambridge was founded in 1441 so that's like an Ancient Ancient institution and the King Singers were formed from that 56 years ago and we are a a six-man close Harmony group it kind of like a barber shop g
roup but a bit more coral a bit more of the kind of traditional choir repertoire you might expect from the chapel uh and we uh travel all over the world we tend to do about a 100 concerts a year across six continents uh the idea is to to connect with people through music to bring people together and to to kind of showcase the amazing variety of music that Coral music that exists from the classical all the way through to the pop stuff of today yeah let's talk about the the different varieties of
uh of sounds and music that people will be hearing uh I was on your website earlier and I heard uh something from The Lion King and you'll hear some more classical settings as well but people are going to get a diverse range of musical styles yeah absolutely um one of the things that we enjoy so much and um hopefully our audiences also enjoy is the huge eclectic mix of repertoire that we sing all the way from from you know music from 5 6 700 years ago all the way to modern pop songs Through Jazz
um folk songs spirituals and everything and we um work with people from all the different communities of music that we sing to make sure that we're we're doing it sensitively and it's an an absolute joy and yeah the program that we're going to be singing in Spartenburg is is exactly that as always we've got music from three big projects that we've been doing um this year with um what the first one was an album called Tom and will which is music by William bird and Thomas wils um from four or 50
0 years ago we've also got um some music from our Disney project where we recorded 25 brand new tracks of um of Disney songs to celebrate the Hundred Years of Disney and um we also recorded an album called Wonderland which celebrated some magical commissions that the King Singers have um commissioned over its 56 year history including some brand new ones um and so yeah the program takes um it really takes pieces from all those projects and others um and we're really excited to perform it we're s
uper excited to have you guys in in Spartenburg because like we say you come to the the United States only so often so this is a good opportunity for people to actually experience you uh live again the concert is tonight at 7:30 the 26 at 7:30 at twitchell auditorium at Converse University um how how how special is it for you guys I know seeing that uh close Acappella like it's such an an intimate setting for you guys to each everyone has their their part to play in this how cool is that experie
nce for you guys and for the audience as well I think what's really wicked about what we do is that you're able to build a really strong connection with the audience like when you're singing Acappella there are no instruments there's nothing to hide back with us there's not even microphones right and so when you're performing any of this music it becomes a really really intimate exchange between you on the stage and the people in the audience and to be able to cultivate those kind of meaningful
relationships over the course of a two-hour concert is so magical and for us to be able to do it you know in Spartenburg but across all of our travels you know next month we're in China and New Zealand and Australia and we're going to be in Japan and Taiwan later this year like with all of these different kinds of people for music become a common language that kind of binds us and makes us stronger and happier it's so so profound to be part of that well we we can't wait to experience it live aga
in happening in sparber tonight 7:30 at Converse University we'll be sure to put all that information and links to all of that and to the king singer website at our website YC carolina. TV Jonathan and Edward thank you both for joining us and uh we can't wait to see you in sparenberg thank you so much
