Carryminati, Munawar Faruqui and Kunal Kamra Controversy | Hinduphobia in Comedy | Dhruv Rathee

Recently, many stand-up comedy shows of Munawar Faruqui were cancelled due to alleged jokes on Hindi gods. Kunal Kamra's Bengaluru shows were also cancelled. In a third separate incident, famous YouTuber Carryminati (Ajey Nagar) had to clip a portion of his MeTube video which showed Ramayan characters. The accusations of Anti-Hinduness are growing every day. I explain and analyse this situation and compare it with Akshay Kumar's film and YouTuber Elvish Yadav. In this video, we will see how the whole Hinduphobia drama is simply a political gimmick. JOIN MY COURSE: ✏️ Don't let procrastination hold you back. Dhruv Rathee

Hello, friends! Recently, the shows of some comedians got cancelled labelling them to be 'Hinduphobic.' That their jokes insult the Hindu religion. First, Munawar Faruqui, then Kunal Kamra and then recently, Carryminati had published a new video on YouTube, it had a clip for which some people have started threatening Carryminati. Saying that they'll take legal actions. Because that clip 'insults Hindu religion.' In today's video, come let's see the truth behind this Hinduphobia, friends. "In a c
ontroversial decision, the Bengaluru police have asked the Good Shepherd Auditorium, to cancel comedian Munawar Faruqui's stand up show in light of threats from the Hindu vigilante groups. To which he says, "Hatred won, the artist lost." "After Munawar Faruqui, stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, on Twitter to announce that his forthcoming show in Bengaluru, has been cancelled." "Is this the India that we want? Where comedians cannot perform anymore because they are threatened." The first issue here
is of Law and Order. Imagine a girl goes to the police station to complain that since she works night shifts, she goes to the office late at night. But when she passes a certain road, some men eve-tease her. In this case, what should the police do? Obviously, the men who eve-tease her should be arrested. The girl should be provided security. But imagine if the police tell the girl, that she should stop travelling at night. That she should change her office timings. Or the timings can't be change
d, she should look for a new job. So that she has to go out only in the mornings. How does it sound? In India, many such cases have been seen. There was an unfortunate incident to a North-Eastern girl in Delhi, after that, the special unit of the Delhi Police, set up for the North-Eastern people, issued a warning stating since New Year is coming, girls shouldn't go out to party. To not accept party invitations from even other North-Eastern people. You can still find this warning on their Faceboo
k page. And now imagine if a goon threatens me and asks me for money, and I go to the police station where the police tell me that it's common in that area. And that I should move to another area. Or that I shouldn't take that road because the goons are always there. Does it make any sense? "Crime Patrol tells you, "See, the criminals would commit crimes, why aren't you alert? If you go out with your body, the criminals would stab you. He is just doing his job." It means that there is no one to
control the goons. The country has fallen into anarchy. We need to put restrictions on ourselves to be safe. We can't go this way, we can't go out at night, we can't live in certain places And you know what, friends? What happened to Munawar and Kunal is similar to this. Munawar wanted to do a comedy show and the audience wanted to watch that show. It was a Sold Out show. The organisers of the venue were willing to organise the show. And then some goons came to threaten them. The organisers of t
he venue went to the police to demand protection, and the police said that they cannot give protection to the place, And so they suggested that the show be cancelled. The simple logic for it was that the police failed in their job and the goons are in power there. Because their will is followed. It's interesting to compare this with Kangana Ranaut. Kangana Ranaut said that she felt threatened so the government offered her Y+ security. And in Munawar's case, even basic police protection wasn't gi
ven. The police said that Munawar is a controversial figure. Who can be more controversial than Kangana Ranaut? The police then argued that since there are pending cases on Munawar, they cannot offer him protection. But there are many pending cases on Kangana Ranaut too. According to an ADR report, 43% of the MPs in Lok Sabha, have criminal charges on them. Does that mean that they would have to cancel all their public functions and rallies? Shockingly, some people were celebrating this treatmen
t of Munawar and Kunal. Were happy because they were put through this. Why? Because they are considered to be 'Against Hindus.' First of all, even if they are, does that mean we can just ignore our democracy? That the Law and Order cease to exist? Since a person is an 'anti-Hindu' and an enemy, should he be dealt with in a manner against the democracy and law and order in our country? But the second and more important point. Are they really Anti-Hindu? Are they really Hinduphobic? What had Munaw
ar said that made him an Anti-Hindu? According to those people, Munawar had insulted the Hindu God Ram and Goddess Sita. What had he said exactly? Come, let's watch the video. "Tell me, why have you named him Hola Ram? His grandfather's name was Ram. And he was born on Holi, So he named him Hola Ram. It's a relief he wasn't born on Lohri. Otherwise, his name would've been..." Oh, you're playing the wrong video Editor. Why aren't you paying attention? Are you busy eating mangoes? There's nothing
wrong with this video. The film by Akshay Kumar got certified by the Censor Board without demanding any cuts. There's nothing wrong with this video. There's nothing Anti-Hindu in this video, friends. Play Munawar's video. "Ram and Nishad Raj were born on the river bank. It was with the excuse of conducting the Kameshti Yajna to beget a son using the excuse of giving the Queens kheer (a dessert). You can't actually conceive just by having desserts. This was a polite way to address it. That's why
he was Dashrath's adopted son. He's the biological son of Shringi Rishi." What's he talking about? Lord Ram wasn't King Dashrath's son? One can't conceive just by having desserts? But dear Editor, this is a member of BJP's ally party. I told you nothing can be Anti-Hindu if a person related to BJP says it. Friends, that's the basic rule. Anyway, Editor, you take a break. I'll tell you what Munawar said. "If God had to respond, there's the song, 'My beloved has returned, O Lord Ram,' "Lord Ram do
esn't care about your beloved!" She's saying that her beloved has come home. Lord Ram replied he hasn't gone home for 14 years. And if Sita overhears, she'll be suspicious about why she's informing Lord Ram when her beloved got home. She suspects Madhuri already! "I'm counting the days waiting for you." She thought that she's counting the years of exile. " The audience was laughing at the joke. Obviously, there were many Hindus in the audience too. No one felt offended. No one thought that it wa
s an insult to Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. But some weeks and months later, a person came forward to say that Munawar had insulted the deities, Ram and Sita. And just like that, a group of people started believing it blindly. Calling it an insult to the Hindu religion and calling him, an Anti-Hindu. The situation is so weird right now, that I would have to explain a joke in my video. Comedy can be broadly divided into 9-10 categories. First, Slapstick humour. Physical humour. When someone slips o
n a banana peel, it's called slapstick humour. Like Charlie Chaplin used to do. The second, is the Self Deprecating humour. Make jokes about yourself. Rajat Chauhan, a comedian does so. "The first time I met a girl, I found out that boys have to take a shower on weekends too. We had no idea." The third is Surreal Humour. Creating absurd situations. And making fun of that. Like Sumit Anand's performance in It's My Birthday. "Well, I had my birthday recently, and this is what happened. My girl got
mad at me because I was not as excited. As she wanted me to be. On my birthday. Which in some way, deeply hurt her feelings. And I was sorry. For what I did to her." And then is the improvisational humour. Impromptu humour. That happens live with inputs from the audience. Gaurav Kapoor is a good example of this. After this comes the wordplay humour. Twisting words in a way to make fun of that. Great examples of this are Zakir Khan and Abhishek Upmanyu. Then comes the comedy about the present po
litical and social situations. Like Kunal Kamra does. And Varun Grover. "Because among the first things we're taught during childhood, is conformism. Not to ask questions. When you go to the mall, there are 3 security rings. In the first, they're looking for bombs in your bag. He found none for 15 years. But you can't question him on it." There's also situational humour. Making jokes on the basis of the current situation. Like the film Hera Pheri, or Phir Hera Pheri. And finally comes the dark h
umour. Where real-life tragedies are used and jokes are made on it. Punit Pania did it on Mob Lynchings. And Munawar Faruqui did it on the Godra Riots. There's an interesting book related to it, The Humour Code. You can get its audio book summary on KUKU FM. I will definitely recommend it to you if you want to know more about the various types of humour and comedy. KUKU FM is a brilliant audio learning platform. You can get many biographies and informational books on it. Another book that I want
to recommend is the audiobook 21 Lessons for the 21st Century. The first 1,000 subscribers among you will get a 50% discount. For you the cost of KUKU FM for 1 year would be ₹199 only. If you click on the link given in the description. Normally there's a 20% discount with DHRUV20. But for the first 1,000 subscribers, it is 50% off. Do check it out. And now, let's return to the topic. This controversial joke by Munawar, fits more into the category of Wordplay. Madhuri Dixit starred in the famous
song 'My beloved has come home, O Lord Ram.' This song was in a 1995 film, and another famous song she starred in was "Ek, Do, Teen" (One, Two, Three) In the first song, the heroine celebrates the return of her beloved. And in that excitement, she calls out to Lord Ram. In an "Oh Lord, he's home finally" context. And in the second song, she's counting the days of the month, till her beloved returns. And because there's 'Oh Lord Ram' in the song, Munawar used Wordplay to pretend that Lord Ram
is jesting with Madhuri Dixit. By using the lyrics of the songs. Are you paying attention? Lord Ram isn't being criticised here. He is not mocked. These songs are made fun of. That obviously, use the phrase 'O Ramji.' Had you been sitting in the audience listening to this joke, you would've understood the joke instantly. There would've been no need to explain it so much. But because many people later claimed that it was an attack on the Hindus, the minds of the people who didn't actually hear t
he joke, get poisoned by it. It gets diverted. And people go with an assumption to hear this joke that Gods are being mocked in it. Another joke by Munawar was quite controversial, it was on Godhra Riots. It fell into the category of dark humour. Because this is a comedy based on real-life tragedies. If you're surprised to know that such a category exists, it is very common in foreign countries. The joke was that "I was watching Burning Train (a film) on TV," Burning Train is a film starring Dha
rmendra, Vinod Khanna, Hema Malini, Munawar uses wordplay again, "Dad came and he changed the channel. Said, "Don't watch this rubbish." When I asked why he said that it was a video of the Godhra Riots." "It's a News Channel." This joke was against the News Channels because news channels show violent footage on TV often and people accept that. And if someone watches violent videos on TV, then people feel that they're watching a news channel. News channels do this often for TRP. Anyway, after all
this outrage, Munawar apologised saying that he had no intention to disrespect any God, and that he didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. He asked for forgiveness if he unintentionally hurt anyone's feelings. 9 months later he went to Indore, to perform in a show. But his show was stopped there. When the son of a BJP MLA, came upon the stage. He was Eklavya Gaud, a chief of a Hindutva group. Munawar wasn't allowed to perform on the stage there. By this vigilante group. You can't even call them
a group, they are goons. Because they threatened a person to stop a show. They took him to the police to be handed over. Munawar and 3 other comedians were jailed. And interestingly, Munawar hadn't even begun the show. He hadn't even told a joke. He was jailed before he did anything. The SP in Indore, admitted that they had no video evidence against Munawar but he intended to make the joke. That's why he was jailed. This made headlines in newspapers. That Munawar was jailed merely for thinking
of a joke. He was locked up for 35 days. 12 of his shows were cancelled. And till now, the police have refused to grant him protection. In fact, the police suggest that he keeps cancelling his shows. After Munawar, this same situation happened to Kunal Kamra. And recently to Carryminati too. I'd like to say that I'm not a fan of Carryminati. I have even criticised some aspects of his old content. But there's this quote, Here, I openly support Carryminati's Freedom of Speech. As long as, his cont
ent or anyone else's content does not have any hateful things. Nothing to spew hatred against any religion. And there were none in Carryminati's content. Ajay had recently released a video, called MeTube. He made fun of YouTube and the space provided by YouTube And the studios they provide. He made fun of several aspects of it. It had a scene, where the other YouTubers come for this studio, And the new YouTubers were wearing the costumes of Ram and Lakshman. WIth masks covering their mouths they
were using phones. I'd say that it falls into the category of absurd situational category of comedy. We imagine Ram and Lakshman in traditional outfits. And here it was mixed with new technologies and Covid masks, creating an absurd situation. It was funny. There's a word for it, Anachronism. Look it up if you want to find out its meaning. Literally, no religion was mocked here. Nor was any God mocked. But the Twitter accounts that consider themselves to be the protectors of the religion, threa
tened to file a criminal complaint against Carryminati, unless he removed the content and apologised for it. Interestingly friends, the people outraging in the name of Hinduphobia and issuing threats, are so selective that you won't believe it. These people use slogans such as 'Har Har Modi' A slogan inspired by the Har Har Mahadev slogan for Lord Shiva. Using a religious slogan, and twisting it to create a slogan for a politician, is it not an insult to the Hindu religion? Kunal Kamra had share
d a joke once in it, Hanuman rips his chest to show Lord Ram and Sita in his heart, and when these people say that they can rip their chests to show that Modi and Yogi Adityanath reside in their hearts, is it not an insult to the Hindu religion? We know that Hanuman is seen as a symbol of devotion, calmness, cheerfulness. In the entire Ramayan, Hanuman is never angry. But a painter makes a portrait of angry Hanuman. Is it not an insult to the Hindu religion? Showing Hanuman in anger when he neve
r gets angry. Some people say that Munawar is being targeted because he is a Muslim. But it is not true, friends. Kunal Kamra had posted recently, there is no Hindu-Muslim discrimination in oppression. BJP Spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi had admitted as much. You discriminate between Hindus and Muslims even in atrocities. As far as atrocities are concerned, we do not discriminate on any basis. Openly admitting that they oppress people and while oppressing, they don't check to see who's Hindu and
who's Muslim. Once, there was a legendary film Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro. The whole climax scene of the film depicted Mahabharat. The humour was that the actors were changing their scripts and it was a satire on society. If people start feeling offended for meagre things, it wouldn't be possible to show anything about any religion. Akshay Kumar dons the costume of Yamraj in an ad for PolicyBazaar. And sells insurance. Will it become Anti-Hindu too? Oh, sorry, it's Akshay Kumar. Nothing can be Anti-Hind
u for him. Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati, compares Nathuram Godse to Lord Ram while talking to a reporter. "I consider Godse as RSS. Nathuram Godse is my ideal. I consider him to be the RSS. A murderer, whether it is Godse or... Then what will you can Lord Ram? What will you call Lord Ram? Is this not an insult to Lord Ram? Elvish Yadav, a YouTuber that claims to be a Hindu in his Twitter bio, but in his videos, he compares the food blessed by Shiv to marijuana. Asks the priest to use "sexy-sexy"
prayers. "This is Elvish Smith. That's him blessing us" "Hey priest, do your sexy-sexy prayers and get us married." [Promoting UpLive app] Oh Lord, calling oneself a devotee of Lord Ram, and then using such crude language and promoting immoral apps. These people and these Twitter accounts, the protectors of the Hindus. They don't see anything Anti-Hindu in it. In fact, this same Twitter account, that started calling Carryminati Anti-Hindu, was also praising Elvish Yadav. Do you know what the re
ason can be? Think about it. There's a simple reason. Elvish Yadav constantly praises BJP, meets with ministers of BJP. So because there is a connection to the BJP, it shut everyone up. Same thing with Akshay Kumar. The same thing with Kangana Ranaut. And the same thing with Yati Saraswati. The simple fact here is that these people have nothing to do with the Hindu religion. They aren't concerned about Hinduphobia. These people are simply spreading the agenda of their political party. By using H
induism. What can be a bigger insult to Hinduism than them using our religion to play at politics? To foster hatred among people and to fool them by getting them to outrage over useless things. Journalists like Munawar Faruqui, Kunal Kamra and Ravish Kumar, criticise BJP often. And so they are targeted by these people and they try to tag them as Anti-Hindu. People like Carryminati who do not campaign for BJP, get sucked into it, because these people need publicity. They try to target the big nam
es. Those that do not praise BJP. Once Carryminati starts praising BJP, they won't say anything against him. The more influential person they target, the more popular person they target, those that do not talk in favour of BJP, the more publicity they'll get for their work. Here, some people ask why are all the jokes aimed at Hinduism only? Why is the comedy against Hindus only? This isn't true. These accounts try to show you this that's why you feel like it. But in reality, the other religions
are mocked just as much. There's comedy against Islam. You'll find comedy against Christianity as well. "A Muslim husband told his Muslim wife, Talaq, talaq, talaq. We don't have any relationship anymore. The Muslim wife said, I'm still your cousin." "They made a Muslim dating app, Tinder became Minder. And why would you want to make a fake account? Everyone's in a burqa." "A new religion of peace, where Muslims and Christians can come together and pray in harmony. Ladies and gentlemen, Chrislam
! "Hallelu......Allah hu Akbar" People use the example of Salman Rushdie, that he had to leave India because of his book The Satanic Verses. But M. F. Hussain had to leave India because of his paintings. On one hand, they cite the example of when Kamlesh Tiwari was murdered for his remarks against Prophet Muhammed, But Aklaq was killed over mere suspicion that he had eaten beef. Many liberal Muslims have talked about social evils in Muslim societies. But these examples won't be shown to you. Bec
ause they aim to build a narrative that the Hindus are in danger. "What was the first word? -Iqra. -Iqra. To Read! They've simply shelved it. They have no interest in it." "Taliban gaining power in Afghanistan, is a concern for the entire world, but it is no less threatening, some groups of Indian Muslims celebrating the return of those monsters." Actually, almost the entire corrupt media, keeps running these programs spreading hatred against Muslims. They start calling everything a Jihaad. UPSC
Jihaad, Land Jihaad, They look for Jihaad in even the tiniest thing. And then these people ask, "why is only Hinduism being targeted?" The truth is that an average Hindu has no problems with Islam. Nor does an average Muslim have any problem with Hinduism. Look at these examples. These Muslim women are throwing petals at Lord Ram, in Hyderabad. In Varanasi, these Muslim women were praying to Lord Ram. In Lucknow, 2 generations of Muslims have been organising Ram Leela. The scripts and dialogues
of the Doordarshan's serial Mahabharat was by a Muslim writer. Bharat Ratna winner Ustad Bismillah Khan, refused to settle in America saying that one wouldn't get Ganga in America. There was a quiz on Bhagawat Gita in Jaipur, organised by the Hare Krishna Mission, and a 16-year-old Muslim boy won this quiz. Hinduism teaches us the ideology of the World is my Family, in reality. That the world is one and everyone is equal. But these trolls on Twitter and Social media who think of themselves as g
uardians of Hinduism go against these principles. They don't believe in it. They believe in spreading hatred only. How they could radicalise the average Hindu? How could they inject him with anger? So that he starts hating other religions. The people criticising their political party, they start hating them too. If you pay some attention to these things, you will start realising it too. Thank you very much!

Thank you soo much for making me believe that humanity still exists. I was born in a state where there are 90% hindus in gujarat. I grew up studying in school where all my friends are hindus they still are my friends and very dear ones. None have hatred in their minds regarding muslims but when I see social media blabbering all hateful things based on religion I feel sad regarding this situation. When I was young people didn’t used to discriminate this much but in the last 5 years it has increased to a great extent. To make a country beautiful it beauty lies in people that make that country a home. I am proud to be an indian muslim and I love my country more than anything ever.
