China is LITERALLY FALLING APART

China is literally falling apart, and we're not talking about the economy here. Buildings in China are collapsing, and the Chinese Communist Party knows it's become a liability that could threaten its rule. In this episode of China Uncensored, we look at what happens when Chinese developers cut corners on materials, why this keeps happening, and why this is a problem that affects all levels of society. China Uncensored

5 months ago

China is literally falling apart And the Communist Party knows It's to blame Welcome to China Uncensored, I’m Chris Chappell. Made in China—not known for the best in quality.This is an example  of tofu dreg construction. The term was coined in 1998 by  then Premier Zhu Rongji. He was being given a tour of flood dykes  that were about as stable as…tofu. Not even tofu, the dregs that are  left behind from making tofu. Really bad when you’re talking about construction. If you thought that video was
crazy, I’ve got a  bunch more to show you that will blow your mind. I’m talking bricks crumbling in your hands. Stay tuned for that, but first I need  to talk about why this is a thing. China’s economy is fake. The illusion of  massive GDP growth was a result of rapid, unrestrained construction projects.  On paper, it looked like growth. The reality was quick and shoddy  construction that is falling apart Often because money for construction materials was  being embezzled. Also because working
conditions in China suck. Construction crews have to work  practically around the clock. Abuse is rampant. And Local governments in China  never want to investigate this because real estate and land sales  are basically the only ways they can raise money. Local governments  aren’t allowed to post taxes. And so you get a Communist utopia!  That used to be a 7 story building. I know you want to see more. And I  got a lot of it. All you got to do is stay tuned after this quick commercial break. Wel
come back. So it’s really not a surprise that you have buildings and bridges and  roads collapsing in China. The materials are crap. Here’s a guy crumbling a  pillar with his bare hands. Steel bars aren’t much better. You should not be able to bend them in your hands  or break them with a little hit. Even walls crumble at the slightest touch. And yeah, it's pretty common. Neitzens all over China have put up videos where they discover that the very  walls around them are crumbling. Here’s a case
of workers using  liquor bottles instead of concrete. And the consequences of shoddy  building materials can be disastrous. This parking garage completely collapsed Here’s a bridge that collapsed on drivers. This freeway overpass collapsed.  The government didn’t blame shoddy construction. They blamed a truck that  was driving on it because, I kid you not, they said he lacked the common sense  to drive down the middle of the road, The truck driver was staying in his lane, which meant there was t
oo much weight on one  side so of course it would collapse. Yeah. This building looks like a  tree someone was chopping down. Entire sides of buildings simply fall off. Real estate is one of the few places  Chinese people can invest. Some put their entire life savings into buying a home So when they discover that that brand  new building is already crumbling, with holes in the floor—that is a disaster. The Chinese Communist Party  knows though that tofu dregs construction is a serious threat to
their rule. In 2008, a massive earthquake hit  Sichuan province. It was during the day when kids where in school. And while  government buildings were left standing, the schoolhouses collapsed,  killing many of the kids. That was devastating in a country where  families were only allowed one child. But the Chinese Communist Party  can’t fix the problem because corruption is endemic to the Communist system. That’s why well over a decade  the Sichuan earthquake, Buildings continue to be made out o
f tofu. So maybe don’t rely on Chinese labor  to make American infrastructure… But while China builds low quality junk  on the cheap, at China Uncensored, we’re dedicated to bringing you the highest quality  content. That’s why we rely on your support on Patreon. Join what I call the China Uncensored  50 Cent Army over at Patreon.com/chinauncensored. All it takes is a dollar an episode  and you’ll get to ask me questions I’ll answer on the show. Today’s question  comes from Ian Pendleton. “Is Ma
Ying-jeou still active in Taiwanese politics?  If so, does he still support closer relations to the CCP to this day, or has  he wised up since his time in office?” Ahh, excellent question. If you  don’t know, Ma Ying-jeou was the former president of Taiwan and boy did he  push things closer with China. Under him, Taiwan became economically dependent  on China, a problem that still exists to this day. Despite the fact the CCP  constantly threatens to invade Taiwan. So with all the constant milit
ary  harassment, has Ma wised up? Of course not! In March of this year he became the first  leader of Taiwan ever to visit Mainland China. They are literally trying to invade  your country . What are you thinking?! On the trip Ma made sure  to say we are all Chinese. Not Chinese and Taiwanese.  How could you be Taiwanese when Taiwan isn’t a separate country, right Ma? So sadly, not much has changed with Ma.  Which really makes me wonder why. Is he bought off? Do they have something  on him? Is h
e just really stupid? I have a video about how Taiwan got dirty in  bed with China, which you should check out. And if you want to join the 50 Cent  Army, click that orange button. Thanks for your question Ian  and thank you for watching. Once again I’m Chris Chappell, see you next time.

Seen a US collage professor years ago talk about China's efficacy he gave an example of a bridge built by China that only took 3 days, while a similar size bridge took 9 months in the US to build. The silver lining to this tail 20 years later the US bridge is still in use, and Chinas lasted less then a year.

@spocker22

I wish their nukes, missiles, and lasers would fall apart.

@sns4748

I studied chemistry in Germany. We had many Chinese exchange students. Couldn’t believe the amount of botch they considered to be ok when carrying out dangerous experiments.

@kilnmaster

Chris is correct. I lived there 5 years, i knew the economy was as bad as the facade on the buildings, my fear is the Chinese have invaded other nearby countries, with their comedy of construction crews. Here now in the Philippines I see the same type of falling apart Chinese buildings, My god they are pathetic.

@apophis2129

Gotta love how the Greeks and Romans had concrete and cement down to a meticulous artform thousands of years ago. Meanwhile, China is out here in 2023 building sandcastles that turn into tombs for the people who live in them...

@LosTCoz3000

Probably better off building with actual tofu.

@stratocruising

Been a real estate inspector for twenty years here in Houston. Spent a month in China this last spring. The big government projects, airports, bullet train stations, and the like are very nicely built. Residential and commercial construction is . . . not. I saw people setting nice stone threshholds on top of stabilized sand in front of a bank. It is an entire economy built to last until the check clears.

@fepeerreview3150

I worked for several years in a wealthy Middle Eastern country. (I need to be discreet with the details.) The building engineering design company I worked for was hired by a gov't ministry to evaluate the condition of 30 partially constructed buildings they had commissioned. Their original plan was to build some 2000 similar buildings across the country but as the first few progressed they became concerned and put the project on hold. We examined the buildings and they were barely salvageable, at considerable expense, due to incredibly shoddy reinforced concrete work. The company that had won the contract was a Chinese company. The contract was cancelled, their assets in the country seized and they were banned from ever working in the country again. It's this lack of business ethics that is going to undermine China's attempts to dominate world commerce.

@ness6099

Had a coworker tell me that China's 996 work cycle and the lack of protection for its workers was "admirable" and "got rid of things that get in the way of getting the job done"... because human lives and safety are insignificant and meaningless to quotas.

@dustsky

That bridge collapsing over driving cars was brutal, dear Lord.

@HelenA-fd8vl

Just seen the pictures of the newly restored Emperors’ Palace in Rome, Italy. Walls still in pristine condition, bricks absolutely straight, bricks must be 2000 years old.

@user-nh4tm6hh4j

I worked construction for thirty years. In the US there are inspection at several points in any project. Each batch of concrete has samples taken and tested. If the sample doesn't pass inspection the bad batch is torn out.

@myMotoring

Meanwhile the tofu is made of construction materials

@vitawater4259

Imagine being in a skyscraper in China and the whole floor beneath you collapses. It makes you wonder if their military hardware is sub par as well.

@kentclark6420

I was shocked when I first saw those videos about the ghost cities in China, and how they're already falling apart, even before anyone moves into them. How would anyone want to move into a skyscraper apartment building that is made out of scrap materials? A big wind blows in and suddenly your 20th floor is on the second floor. No thanks!

@marchellabrahams

Here in Britain we have bridges centuries old which are still in use and still standing strong. Pity the same cannot be said of our government.

@puirYorick

My Engineering Economics lecturer spoke of this corruption in communist China and South Asia in the early-to-mid-eighties. He had worked with the IMF and The World Bank. To invest in China, greed must exceed common sense.

@michaelattoe5710

The part where they showed the person bending the floppy rebar is absolutely shocking, as rebar is only the most vital part of construction holding concrete together.

@PositronicDiscombobulator

We have Tofu dreg in Australia now too, it seems as though we imported it. We all thought the Italian builders were crazy back in the day but most of their stuff is still standing. There's a lot of good people suffering here because of it.

@JJs_playground

I'd be terrified to be in those buildings filming the shoddy workmanship. It could collapse at any time.
