a local high schooler is known for her bowling prowess the likes of which are now allowing her to compete at a national level mtn's Tommy Lynch has the story of CMR senior matd Bruner CMR senior mattye brener has been bowling for as long as she can remember and now she will be bowling in Alabama my grandma was the coach and my dad and my grandma have just been bowling for their whole life so when me and my brothers were basically old enough to throw the ball they put us on the lane Madison Brune
r was the Montana 2024 Master ET in bowling and was offered a scholarship to University of Mobile in Alabama Bruner had heard of mobile because there was one other Montana bowler on their team and her interest increased after she met with the coaches at a competition the instructors are there so we get to really sample what their programs are like visit with them um talk to them about their teams about their uh ethics and just about the practice sessions and whatnot and what they do so that real
ly kind of in iated where we were going with uh with this college in a season Bruner bowls four to five times a week and says that it is the relationship she has made that have kept her coming back to the lanes for 14 years I've made a lot of friendships throughout this I've made a lot of just really strong really good relationships and it's just something that's been really consistent in my life madd's father used to be a competitive bowler as well and loves to see his daughter following in his
footsteps it's really a way to see an individual grow so we were excited about that I proceeded to learn a ton of bowling vocabulary so you want to slide but when you slide you want to keep your foot behind the foul line house ball Brooklyn shot makes it spin better and then the core in the middle will flip faster before we decided that Maddie had taught me enough to throw a rock myself and if you don't think that that was my strike that's just like your opinion man really has helped me continu
e in the sport is the support while it's a big move Bruner is excited for the opportunity and can't wait to see what the future holds for her in Mobile in Great Falls I'm Tommy Lynch MTN news for over a decade March 31st has marked an important day of celebration for the transgender Community an event in Missoula on Sunday will highlight the positive impact transgender people have had in Montana mtn's Claire Peterson spoke to some of the speakers for the event and learned about what this year's
event means to the trans community this Sunday March 31st marks trans day of visibility last year many missoulians spent the day here at the courthouse protesting legislative bills aimed at the trans Community this year they'll be spending the day celebrating at the Western Montana lgbtq plus Community Center given everything that like we've gone through over the last year or so it's it's going to be huge it's I think it's going to be a space where we all can reconnect and enjoy each other's com
pany trans day of visibility was started in 2010 as a way to celebrate and highlight the positive impacts from the trans Community I really want to focus on being positive and that an event at the center will host five different transgender speakers including Missoula representative Zoe Zephyr and her fiance lgbtq plus journalist Aaron Reed we are talking about the fact that trans people have always been present and are always going to be present here on this land Reed feels support going into t
he event despite the push back from government the past year these events they they rejuvenate me they give me the strength to do what I do for Zeke cork another speaker at the event the day is especially important for Trans youth when I transitioned it it was so lifechanging for me and so by me being visible it lets them see that there are adults living these lives I know a lot of them don't think they'll live beyond their 20s you know it's like no you will and you'll prosper and you'll have fa
