hey juicers what's the last comedy you watched or was the last thing you watched tragic there are a lot of genres now but back in the beginning of what we'd call popular media those two were pretty much it the terms comedy and tragedy date back to ancient greek theater where they had pretty simple definitions comedy was any story with a happy ending and tragedy was any story with an unhappy ending so how did we go from these really broad uses to how we describe comedy and tragedy today well most
ly because we realized that humans are more complicated than that and we have a huge range of emotions and stories that don't fit into one simple category for instance stories that are based on real-life people called histories by some dramatists are often a mixed bag shakespeare wrote dramedies like winter's tale that combine the style of comedies and the tragedies modern movies and stories will freely mix snippets of drama into comedy or comic relief into serious stories without regarding it a
s out of place this evolution in the complexity of fiction had to be reflected in more complicated genres we now have a rich vocabulary for describing the stories that entertain and intrigue us and as more people from diverse backgrounds join in on the storytelling with new forms histories and cultural ideas the kinds of stories we can hear only gets broader and that's the juice
