Jamie Roberts thanks for having me that is comedian Jammy Roberts once again Bringing Down the House at one of Harlem's hottest spots he is also the co-owner of the club that showcases upand cominging talent and bigname Comics Jamie who's from Long Island says he got hooked on Comedy after getting crowned the funniest person in high school and you know how important those titles are in high school and he's been making audiences laugh ever since Jamie joins us now thanks so much for join joining

us thank you for having me so your Club comedy in Harlem is the first comedy club in Harlem talk to us about how you started it well we started right after the pandemic um we needed a place black and brown people to perform every night of the week and we we just we decided that we we need to have our own place so um the restaurant right below us lighthouse we we did a show down downstairs and they wanted us to come back but it wasn't big enough so he called me the next day and said we have a spa

ce for you and I said you got to be kidding me man and it was right above lighthouse we went and looked at it it used to be a gym and so we converted the gym into a comedy club and we've been rocking ever since hey you got to work out them jokes somewhere right that's right I got to ask okay so what is Jam's comedy like because I know you're married you got three kids and I feel like you get you can get a lot of content from that right yeah I'm married I'm actually married to a comedian Mick sun

sh so um my life is a comedic uh real every day every day when you wake up when you go to sleep we're always having jokes but uh my kids are funny as well U my my comedy comes from life you know I've lived a life you know and uh people want to people want to know what you've been through we just tell it through a different lens as comedians comedy is hard I mean it's hard to make people laugh obviously you've been doing it since high school um how did you break into this business uh my brother T

erry dared me wow he dared me to get on stage one day and um we were downtown at a show and the guy was bombing I mean like he was bomb him and I was like he's not funny he's not funny and my brother was said why don't you try it I didn't go up that night but uh we went home we wrote some material and I went back and I actually won a contest that's amazing that's really cool so I caught the bug I still wasn't funny though even though I won a contest I wasn't funny so what does it take for someon

e to be funny because I know on the side you're also helping aspiring comedic out right right well the funny has to be inside you it has to be in I can't teach you how to be funny I can teach you how to write a joke I could teach you the punchline hold did you tell people that you're like you're never going to make in this business no I'll never do that cuz they'll be your boss you know what eventually they become your boss when you do stuff like that right but uh no uh I give people pointers yo

u know we have workshops that we do at the club we have writing sessions uh we have uh open mics we have uh shows like new faces so if you're brand new at comedy you can come and work out with us and it's just aspiring to help people yeah I love that it's like paying it forward in a lot of ways um how we got a little taste of your performance there I mean how often do you perform and what are some of your upcoming dates uh I'm performing at least three times a week cuz I'm running a club you kno

w before was 5 to six maybe uh four times a night I used to perform wow but now I I had to cut back cuz we were onun a club um and you know we I'm performing this entire weekend though like even like tonight yeah tonight yeah we're doing the HBCU show tonight and then we're the whole weekend we have flame and row um Thursday tonight uh Friday and Saturday and then Monday we have Tory so are we going to be in your bit tonight because you're going to take some of the inspiration from here straight
