(Narration montage in children’s voices) (Ruslting reeds) This is a curlew. They have a beautiful, bubbling call... (Mournful curlew birdsong) ...and a long beak called a bill. (Ruslting reeds) But sadly their populations are crashing. Curlew breed in uplands like the Yorkshire Dales. In spring and summer they lay eggs in nests
on the ground. (Chicks tweeting) Lots of things can scare a curlew off its nest, like a curious dog or a person walking off the path. If a parent leaves the nest the eggs
are vulnerable. They could be eaten by a predator or get too cold and not hatch. Please help us protect these magnificent birds. Stick to the paths between March and August, and keep your four-legged friends under control. (Child’s impression of a dog barking) (Curlew calls) Together let’s keep curlew safe.
