Darth Vader: Purpose (Star Wars Fan Film)

After failing to prevent the Death Star's destruction, Darth Vader is tasked with learning from Sith Lords of the Old Republic. An original story written and directed by Ashild Adam and Ben Alfrejd, based on our favorite character from the Star Wars universe!

[Sounds of space battle] I'm on the leader. The Force is strong with this one. I have you now. What?! [TIE Fighter gets hit] [Death Star explodes] [TIE fighter flies by] The Death Star, the culmination of 20 years of planning, was to be the key to ruling the Galaxy unchallenged for the next century. Its destruction puts our dominance at risk. But my Lord, its power to destroy planets is insignificant to the Dark Side. Its power was not destruction but fear. Fear is the dark side. And yet, a hand
ful of Rebel Fighters managed to blow up the most expensive military base ever constructed on your watch. Perhaps you have lost your way Apprentice? Bah... I can replace the troops fast enough, but the financial cost to build the station is not so easily recovered. Its destruction rests solely upon your shoulders, Vader. I will personally hunt down and eliminate the rebels responsible. And you would fail! Your skills have plateaued since I freed you from the shackles of the Jedi Order. [Footstep
s] Hmmm... A test. Prove to me that you can still bend the Force to your will. Learn what you can from this. And if you learn nothing perhaps your usefulness to me has come to an end. Another worthless lesson. [Holocron Hisses] And who might you be to believe yourself worthy of learning from Sith Lords of old? Darth Vader, Apprentice to Darth Sidious, ruler of the first Galactic Empire. Yet you would not be here if your Empire was in good condition. I brought peace to the Galaxy, balance to the
Force and ended the reign of the Jedi. Genocide is not balance. Let me guess you have a rebel problem you can't quell? If you want my advice first show me what you're made of. Is this the best the Sith can offer? Our standards must have slipped considerably if the likes of you lead an Empire. Do you always talk this much? Do you always listen so little when someone is trying to teach you? You cannot build an Empire on fear. Every superweapon you build rallies thousands against you. At some point
you need to stop fighting people who don't believe in you. Hope is like sand. No matter how wide your grasp nor how tight your grip, some will always slip through. There is no greater honor than to rule. It Is the destiny of the powerful to shape society to serve all who live in it. The title of Sith used to mean something. Another one? Indeed. Here to criticize me about the state of my Empire as well? No, but if you learned nothing from Revan perhaps you are a poor student. If you are here to
sling insults, allow me to change the subject. Very well, if violence is the only language you understand. It seems your master has failed you, as you have failed him. Without my master I would not be the Sith Lord I am today. That is truer than you seem to realize. He holds you back. Aren't you here to teach me how to become more powerful? The truest strength comes from turning away from power that is not your own. If you depend on others to survive, your life is owned by those that keep you. N
o one owns me! You are a husk! Why do you think yourself worthy of the title of Sith? I have brought peace to the galaxy and persevered through tragedy! To have lost so much and learned so little, that is the tragedy! No, you are no Sith, you are a dog on a leash. You serve, loyally and unquestioningly. I will end you, you insolent hag! Congratulations, you've bested an old witch. Does that make you feel powerful? I could destroy you. You cannot. I am but a memory, a ghost in a holocron, and you
r chains remain unbroken. So what would you have me do, witch? I have given you insight but perhaps the lesson has not sunk in. Maybe I'm not the teacher you need. You have faced Revan, my greatest student. Now face my greatest failure. Enough of these games. Do you not crave our knowledge? All this blasted holocron has taught me is how much of a failure I am! Perhaps... who have you failed? My Empire, my master! I was to be the chosen one... I brought balance, I brought peace! But... But it has
not brought you the power you were promised. Wallowing gets you nowhere! You must hunger for power! Cling to life, cling to victory, until all others let go and you are left standing victorious. You have survived much and survival is the key to bringing change. If you desire victory you will sacrifice to obtain it. If you do not desire victory you do not deserve it! So what would you give for victory? What would you give for power? Everything! I have given everything! And what makes you deservi
ng of power? I persevered while my friends and family died around me. And I... I killed my my family! I have lost so much. So why do you fight? I don't know. I have nothing more to gain, nothing to lose. No one has nothing to lose. Anakin? Anakin, are you okay? Master Windu just killed the high Chancellor. Palpatine is dead. He had a red lightsaber and took down three other Masters. Oh... my goodness... Was he... A Sith Lord? The Sith Lord? Yeah I guess so. No... No. This is not how it happened.
With Grievous dead, the separatists defeated, and the Sith Lord gone, does this mean we have peace now? I hope so. I can't believe Palpatine was manipulating me all along! My whole life! Oh, Ani. We're safe now. We can be a family together now. Yeah, we still have each other. Padme... What? Another Sith? Stay back, Sith! Put that down, Jedi fool! Stop it! Don't hurt him! No... I - I should have known Palpatine would take another Apprentice after I killed Count Dooku! Do don't know what you're t
alking about. I know enough! Palpatine started this war. Dragged me into it. He was responsible for so much suffering and I will not let you continue his legacy! Have we fought before? You have no idea. [gasp] Ani! Stay with me... Stay back, you monster! Padme, please. Stay back! it's me, A- Anakin. No. No! Padme that is enough. Stay back, I don't know you! I won't let you harm my baby! Padme, it's our child! No. Liar! I lost you once before, I won't lose you again. You have already lost me. Thi
s baby will outlive both of us and I will not let you have them. [holocron hisses] [footsteps] Did the child live? I have told you the answer before. Does. It. Live? You lied to me. I told you what you needed to hear. You LIED! [Laughter] This is the Vader I met on Coruscant! The Vader I made. You robbed me of the ones that I loved. I made you a Lord. A Lord of suffering, ruling over scraps! Do not speak ill of our Empire like that, Vader. You were hopeless before I gave you that holocron! [gasp
ing] You stole hope from me once before! I will not allow you to do so again! And yet... For all your power, victory slips through your fingers once more! You cannot win... It would be a shame to replace you, Vader. But apparently your child has awakened to the Force, so I would not be without an apprentice for long. The choice is yours. You cannot beat him, Vader. But you must. Just not yet. And not alone. [holocron cracks and explodes] Well? What did you find in the holocron? I... found Purpos
e. Good. Good! Then I trust you will serve without failure? Yes... ... my Master.

@Swaa

Amazing!!! Nicely done. I look forward to seeing more shorts from you.

@akuuritano2355

The costumes vaders dialect is on point gives us shades of Anakin

@singingbowels

I’ll be honest, in the first minute I thought “oh sh*t.” 18 minutes I won’t get back if I stick it out. But, I did stick it. Turned out to be 18 well spent. Original and worth it.

@demod2080

Palpatine: Hahaha, this is the Vader I met on Coruscant. The Vader I made! That line is so cold, I felt chills. Why is this movie so good?!

@demod2080

No one has nothing to lose That is such a poignant line. Powerful yet, sad. Vader still had his life, children he yet to know. Nihlus spoke true, yet Vader didn't know anything beyond the pain of loss. Damn, this is such a beautifully written Fan Film. Lucas would be proud.

@dondhii

the writing in this was phenomenal. anakin and vader mirroring each others moves was brilliant

@777mustdie

The battle between Vader and Darth Nihillus was epic 😮

@noahmarsh3532

You can really feel the rage behind the “no one owns me” line.

@janinejohnstone468

I loved the storyline! I heard Revan and Kreia saying things I could agree with (and I've always been Jedi at heart). When Vader finally realised Sidious had tricked him and came for him, I found myself yelling for Vader... not something I ever thought I'd say. And at the end, when the old sith inside the holocron helped him find a new purpose, secretly warning him in as many words that his son had survived and may one day help him defeat the real Sidious...

@Futuretense101

"If you can't learn from my greatest student, perhaps you'll learn from my greatest failure." One of the best lines I've ever heard in a Star Wars film, fan fiction or canon. That made me shiver. Keep making content, please!

@someguy9654

The dialog and writing in this is beyond great. 10 out of 10.

@unLUCKY95

Amazing that fans with minimal budget, film-making experience and acting skills can make a story that grips me more than a lot of what Disney Lucasfilm has put out. Great job guys.

@YoungKolivon451

This was heat ngl TREIA AND NILHILUS WERE SPEAKING FACTS

@guitartrav4299

@TheThirdStreetSaints133

4:27 Vader just sees [Influence Lost: Kreia] pop up right infront of him but on a fr note this is a great fan film!

@lordvader1993ger

Imagine he tries in a sequel with Lord Starkiller, Seventh Sister and Lumiya to attack the Emperor.

@OveranalyzingStarWars

Nice job guys, that Vader costume looks perfect and I got chills with the greatest failure comment, Nihilus is awesome

@tasonjodd5151

Whats funny is that in sheer power, Vader is beyond literally everyone else in this film. But the writers kept that in mind and let their respective wisdom and experience take the reins to teach Vader about the other half of being sith: Maintaining control.

@bushfather5725

Discovered this a couple of days ago. I was skeptical at first. God damn did you prove my initial worries to be absolutely nothing. Great job and keep up the quality lad

@starkillerzc2807

Wow I’ve been so burnt out with Star Wars content of late but I see fan films like this and reignites not only my passion for this franchise but also to continue my own Star Wars projects
