Detroit program pairs young kids with mentors for 12+ years

A program in Detroit is focused on creating a guiding path for kids in the city. The program pairs children between the ages of 4 and 6 with professional mentors, known as "friends," and that commitment lasts more than a decade.

Mentor or a friend from kindergarten through High School it was like a big sister Aunt um she loves and respects her every child needs a best friend more importantly a role model like Ezekiel peoples friends like Ezekiel peoples help their little friends tackle everything from homework to emotional development I'm sitting with them I'm making sure they're staying focused they're on track um if they need like a little bit of encouragement to participate with whatever is going on I'm there to hel
p them out as well and outside of school the character development continues we also have five specific uh road map goals that we want to hit so we work on school Success um proo Social Development we work on improved Health making good choices and plans and skills for the future the friends program has many impressive outcomes helping change the life path for many children who face adversity growing up in metro Detroit Ezekiel became a mentor to give back had I not had this leadership with this
