Did Flitwick HATE His Students?! - Harry Potter Theory

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we’ll be discussing whether or not Filius Flitwick, Charms Professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, HATED his students. If you don’t know much about Professor Filius Flitwick, you may be asking yourself, “Why in Merlin’s Beard would this seemingly jolly teacher HATE the children he taught at Hogwarts?” Well, as it turns out, Professor Flitwick is actually part-Goblin. And while many used to simply speculate on the idea that this could be due to his height and appearance—not to mention his incredible intelligence—Flitwick’s part-Goblin background has indeed been confirmed over the years by author J.K. Rowling. [Music] hey everyone welcome to another installment of Harry Potter Theory today we'll be discussing whether or not philas Flitwick charm's professor at Hogwart School of Witchcraft and Wizardry hated his students if you don't know much about Professor philus Flitwick you may be asking yourself why in Merlin's beard would this seemingly Jolly teacher hate the children he taught at Hogwarts well as it turns out Professor Flitwick is actually part Goblin and while many used to Simply speculate on
the idea that this could be due to his height in appearance not to mention his incredible intelligence flitwick's Park Goblin background has indeed been confirmed over the years by author JK Rowling since the release of the series it's also been revealed that Flitwick was once a student at Hogwarts himself sorted into Ravenclaw house as a result of his intelligence and W after finishing school he gained recognition as a dueling champion before before returning to Hogwarts to teach what this sugg
ests is that he's always been comfortable in The Wizarding World attending school alongside full blooded witches and wizards making a name for himself as a w wielding Wizard and returning to Hogwarts to pass along his skills to Future generations of students and throughout all of that time Flitwick never showed any signs of resentment or bitterness towards his students or colleagues indicating that he likely never felt less than other Wizards or if he did it did not bother him so why is flitwick
's Heritage worth noting and why would his ancestry potentially make him feel hatred towards other full-blooded witches and wizards well because over the centuries the relationship between goblins and humans has often been fraught with tension and conflict this is largely due to the societal and cultural differences between the two species as well as the historical mistreatment of goblins by Wizards goblins are known for their exceptional skills in metal work mathematics and Magic however their
craftsmanship and proclivity for finances has often been exploited by Wizards leading to resentment and mistrust for instance goblins believe that the true owner of an object is the maker not the purchaser a belief that has led to numerous conflicts over ownership rights of goblin made items such as godric Gryffindor Sword there's also the fact that witches and wizards have intentionally withheld one law from goblins refusing them the to carry these magical instruments many goblins believe this
is Wizard kind's way of keeping goblins in service to witches and wizards and preventing them from becoming the more powerful species of course despite the historical animosity there are instances of cooperation and mutual respect between goblins and wizards for example bring got's Wizarding Bank Run by goblins and visited by a vast majority of Witch and Wizard clientele is a crucial institution in The Wizarding World however instances like these are the exception rather than the norm and the ov
erall relationship remains strained complex and marked by conflict mistrust and exploitation therefore in terms of Professor Flitwick considering his Goblin ancestry it's not unreasonable to question how the history between Wizards and goblins could potentially have influenced the relationships he had with the students which brings us to the question of did it did his Goblin l age affect how he felt about the full-blooded human witches and wizards that he taught at Hogwarts the short answer here
is no I don't believe it did this is due to a very long list of observational evidence regarding how Professor philus Flitwick acted and was described by students throughout Harry Potter's time at school to begin with Flitwick was the head of Ravenclaw House a prestigious position within the school given to professors who embodied the qualities of their house of course simply being being the head of a house doesn't necessarily make you a kind-hearted person this is very clearly exemplified by t
he snarky mean-spirited behavior of Professor Snape the head of souin house however in addition to his appointment as the head of Ravenclaw the charms Professor was always consistently portrayed as a fair kind and patient teacher he was known for his cheerful and encouraging education style often praising his students for their efforts and achievements no matter how small take for example the compl ment he gave herione in the philosopher stone for her accomplishment of the rather basic levitatio
n charm oh well done cried Professor Flitwick clapping everyone see here miss gr has done it while Flitwick had likely seen many students achieve this same rather simple charm during his tenure as the charms Professor he still provided herione with genuine congratulations on her ability to make a feather rise from the desk in addition to his support for his students Professor Flitwick was also often described as going out of his way to help them even offering extra lessons to those who struggled
instead of doing out detention and Punishment flitwick's character is also marked by a strong sense of justice and fairness in terms of his colleagues and students it's important to know that flitwick's positive attitude towards his students is not limited to those in his own house of Ravenclaw he is equally supportive and kind to students from all houses demonstrating his impartiality and further disproving anything theory that he may have been Prejudiced and full of hidden hatred for example
he stood up for many students on several occasions such as when he defended Harry Ron and herione during the trials of tournaments showing that he cared deeply for their well-being or when he brought a suit of armor to life to attack Professor Snape and defend the professors and students of Hogwarts against Voldemort and his Death Eaters as described in the following scene from The Deathly Hallows no squired Flitwick raising his wand you'll do no more Mur murder at Hogwarts Flitwick spell hit th
e suit of armor behind which Snape had taken shelter with a clatter it came to life so despite his part Goblin ancestry there is no real evidence to suggest that Professor Flitwick harbored any ill will or hatred towards his students quite the opposite in fact with his kindness cleverness and wit Professor Flitwick made a fine teacher who used his qualities to educate and guide his students rather than to Harbor resentment or animosity ultimately the idea that Professor Flitwick hated his studen
ts seems unfounded the only evidence suggested he was caring kind and inspiring teacher who embraced diversity and fostered a positive learning environment flitwick's Goblin ancestry may have shaped his perspective and understanding of the complexities of wizard Goblin relations but it did not diminish his ability to connect with and guide his students in fact some might argue that flitwick's Goblin background may have even made him more compassionate and understanding towards his students his f
irsthand experience with prejudice and mistreatment could have given him a unique perspective on the importance of treating others with respect and fairness furthermore it's worth noting that Hogwarts itself has always been a place that celebrates diversity and inclusivity with students from all walks of life and magical backgrounds it would be highly unlikely for a prejudiced teacher to thrive in such an environment and with that we've come to the end of today's video what did you think do you

@24934637

This is the first time I've heard any suggestion about Flitwick 'Hating his students'. Never seen ANY evidence to suggest that he even slightly disliked them, never mind actively hating them!

@YellowBear-kx1ff

You forgot to mention that Flitwick was also a laid-back teacher, hence his extra lessons instead of detention. He also sometimes let his students play games in class whenever he failed to get them to concentrate in class, like before the Yule Ball.

@grokeffer6226

I liked Flitwick and wished he were in the movies more often.

@LouisTravieon

Flitwick loved his kids. All of them. He was one of the best professors at Hogwarts ❤

@tjtaylor6431

The minor but important characters are part of what makes Harry Potter so revisitable after all of this time. Flitwick doesn’t have a major presence in the story, but he’s always around. By the end you feel like you kinda know the guy. He reminds you of a teacher you had once. He’s one of the things that fleshes out Harry Potter and makes the world JK built feel lived in.

@lyleseward8638

Didn't seem like they held any wand lore back from Flitwick since he had a wand and was allowed to become a champion duelist. Honestly, I wonder how well Flitwick got along with Goblins. Was he accepted by them or shunned by them?

@TomsBackyardWorkshop

I don't think anyone who had read the books or seen the movies ever thought Flitwick hated anyone.

@karenvickers482

Plus when the Weasley twins left Hogwarts by attacking Umbridge, Flitwick was ecstatic. He kept part of the swamp Fred and George made as a souvenir.

@JustACactus616

FLITWICK HATED NO ONE. JUSTICE FOR RAVENCLAW, AND FOR FLITWICK

@Crafty_Spirit

The real question is, just how old is Flitwick and how did he pull a Benjamin Button between the second and third movie??

@phily8093

He's great at de-aging potions it seems, from his first appearance on screen.

@davidkerk5676

Flitwick was a dueling champion due to his smaller hitbox.

@erikagholston6610

Flitwick was the kind of teacher everyone wished they had.

@macwelch8599

How different would the production of the story be if elves, giants, dwarves and hobbits were real? How would the story portray each race?

@danielkennedy8355

I'm betting that Dumbledore picked him as a charms master because he's absolutely amazing.

@pamelaoldham1298

This was one of your sillier theories. Flitwick was a dream teacher 😊

@unionjack84

Professor Flitwick was one of the best teachers at the school. But I'm curious as to why he needed a wand since he had Goblin blood in his veins?

@ganrimmonim

Having read the books multiple times and watched the movies a fair few times I've neither read nor seen anything to suggest that Professor Flitwick hated his students. And this is by the standards of the Non-Wizarding world. The wizarding world seems to be boarding on the fascist to me.

@hardcorehunter7162

Dueling Flitwick isn't fair he has a 1 square hitbox. It's like playing against oddjob in goldeneye!

@eranshachar9954

Exactly. I think Flitwick respected his Goblin heritage, nevertheless wasn't even once like them in behavior. If he acted like his magical race side he would have joined Voldemort/not caring enough to fight. What do we see him do? Killing the mighty DE Antonin Dolohov and possibly killing many more of them.
