new this morning the 10th mountain division has a rich history in colorado with many of their soldiers who fought on skis returning from world war ii to start the ski industry in colorado this is an incredible story now one filmmaker is taking an unknown story about the 10th mountain division all over the world in a new documentary mountaineer joins us live from vail and matt former ski racer chris anthony is getting a lot of attention for his documentary right now he is cory and gary good morni
ng that film winning all sorts of awards now he's taking it all over the world so he can do screenings in person that documentary focuses on the history of the 10th mountain division those soldiers that learned how to fight on skis and a little known time during world war ii when they decided to take a break from the battle and put on a ski race at the colorado snow sports museum in vail this statue right here filmmaker chris anthony says there's a lot of history significant part of colorado his
tory and stories being told about the 10th mountain division just story after story soldiers on skis who trained in colorado and then they were incredibly victorious spot in europe during world war ii a history that chris spans in his new award-winning documentary it's called mission mount vanguard it's a 70-minute documentary and it goes from 1939 to june 3rd 1945. that this former ski racer put his heart into i wrote directed shot quite a bit of it edited by showing the heart of skiing and a l
ittle known time when the 10th put down their guns so they could compete in a ski race what type of characters would be during wartime decide all of a sudden that they're going to have a ski race on the equipment that they captured from the germans the documentary was filmed in italy the indian mountain troop and even michaela shifrin has a cameo michaela became very infatuated with deborah bancard's story and the role that she played all in a film chris says shows how the love of skeen they wen
t back to what brought them smiles and brought them happiness can be more powerful than even war it's just such a magical thing [Music] such an incredible story with those men that were in the 10th mountain division so many of them returned from the war and really started the ski industry more than 50 ski areas in colorado so a lot to be attributed to them this film also raises money for the chris anthony youth initiative which raises money to help kids get better education opportunities corey a

rking on this film for years and the pandemic hit and he had it's time to sort of just keep researching it and putting it together and so this has been a work in progress and it's a pretty incredible story and it's just amazing it's the 10th mountain division they're legendary we've heard so much about them this story i've never heard anything before about this and so i can't wait to see this documentary yeah it's going to be good that's for sure all right thank you very much
