hey this is Doug from firsttech today we're here to talk about the Drone XC dash camera we're going to go through a complete unboxing as well as an installation activation on the website and a setup on your mobile [Music] device this is what you're going to find in the Drone XC dash camera box first of all we're going to show you the quick start card this is meant to be used by your customer obviously so you will forward this along to the customer and it shows all of the pieces in parts and func
tionality that the customer will need the next part that's going to come in here is going to be your wiring diagram so this sheet will show you the wiring schematic for not only a standalone installation but also a data to data installation when using the Drone XC along with a controller or a brain so this is the Drone XC dash camera this includes a drone module as well as a fully functional dash camera so you don't need an additional device to control or track your vehicle everything is built r
ight into this camera couple things I want to point out along the lines of the camera itself first of all you're going to see two buttons these are the only user interface buttons on the camera so the customer will be able to turn the Wi-Fi on and off using the Wi-Fi button and start a manual recording with the record button that's on the device itself the other thing I want to point out is on the back of the camera you'll see there's a 16 pin connector this is where obviously all your wiring is
going to be connected lastly the bracket that the Drone XC mounts with includes a large double-sided sticky pad that allows for a secure mounting to the windshield itself and then when you remove this bracket which is done very easily by opening this door on the side and then sliding the bracket on the device itself and it pops right off so once you remove this bracket you're going to expose serial number of the device as well as the ICC ID if you are not logged in as a dealer and you're activa
ting this device as a guest you will need the last six digits of this icci ID number if you're logged in as a dealer you will just need the serial number and that will allow you to activate the device for the customer and then they just have to complete the registration after that device is activated also in the Box are two wire management accessories one long and one short this allows for different mounting configurations depending on the windshield of the vehicle and where the camera needs to
be mounted in the particular vehicle you're working on the next thing I want to show you is the security screws so along with the c camera you will find two security screws you get one obviously that you'll need and then an extra one to pass along to the customer this allows you to secure the camera so it cannot be removed without the special tool this tool should be passed along to the customer once that security screw is installed in the installation you will not be able to remove the camera u
nless you have this tool this tool also allows you to access the SD card the next thing you're going to find in the box is a cleaning wipe for the windshield you'll also find A Mir hanging tag so this Mir hanging tag gives your customer the information that they would need to register the device the next thing you're going to find in the box is serial number tags there's two different tags one is meant to be stuck to the inside of the driver's door jam so if you need access to the serial number
or more importantly if your customer needs access to their serial number it's always right there inside the driver's door the other key tag in here allows the customer to just simply scan a QR code to add this to their existing drone account or to create a new drone account for the Drone XC dash camera the last thing in the box is going to be your wiring harness this includes all of the wiring that you would need for a standalone installation or a data to- dat installation with a controller so m
oving on towards the installation of the device itself we're going to go over the wiring harness we're going to show you all the different wires that you're going to need in this harness as well as we're going to show you how it plugs into the camera itself so what you're going to find is is a 16 pin connector like I said so you'll notice on this connector there are three white dots on one side of the connector those are there to confirm the orientation when you actually plug it into the camera
itself so when you plug this in you want those three white dots facing you so facing inside the vehicle three white dots should be facing in towards the vehicle and then when you plug this in you want to make sure you firmly seat that connector once it's plugged in then you can proceed to clean up your harness here so let's go over the different wires that you're going to find in this harness so we'll start with this female connector that allows you to add an additional camera it can either be a
rear view camera or an interior camera which are both sold separately the next thing you're going to find is a green wire this green wire is your ignition input then you will find a twisted pair of brown and white wires this is for can communication with the vehicle at this point this is not going to be used in any installation so we'll just cut and insulate this and then lastly you will find the main connector this black heavy cable will run up over the headliner down the a pillar to the contr
oller or to allow you to feed power and ground to the camera so we'll find the other end of this connector and I'll show you what's here you're going to notice a gray connector this is what plugs into the controller itself if you're doing this with a data to dat installation this red and black are for constant power and ground this is a required connection because of the extra current draw of the device itself so you will need to connect the power and ground in the vehicle for every installation
once you've determined the installation type that you're going to use you can complete the preparation of your harness for this particular installation that we're going to show today it's going to be a data to dat installation along with the brain so we will not need the can wires or this green ignition input because that will be provided by the brain so we're going to go ahead and cut this off and like I said we want to use about leave about 10 to 12 in of this wire near the camera it's itself
so if we ever have to access those again they're easily accessible once we do that we want to make sure that our wires are different lengths so you'll notice if you look at this our ignition wire and our two can wires are different lengths this prevents cross talk between the wires so if there's extra strands you'll never need to worry about a short on those wires themselves once you've confirmed this then you're going to go and insulate those wires with an electrical tape once we've insulated
the wires with our electrical tape we can then move on to whatever type type of tape to dress the harness or you can use zip ties but make sure that you secure this harness before you actually installed in the vehicle so all these wires are tied together for a nice clean installation in the vehicle itself so now we're going to move into the vehicle and discuss mounting and some things to watch out for when you're mounting the camera to the windshield in the vehicle as well as routing your wires
so the first thing you want to make sure of is that wherever you're going to mount the camera that the customer can still access these buttons on the front of the camera these buttons again are to turn the Wi-Fi on and off in the camera as well as start a manual recording so with that being said the next thing we're going to do is we're going to dry fit the camera on the windshield we're just going to hold the camera up to determine where we want to mount the camera and what trim piece we'll nee
d to allow us to hide the wires so when we put this camera up on the windshield we want to make sure of a few things number number one that our rear viw mirror doesn't inhibit the customer from being able to get to those buttons so if you move your rear viw mirror out of the way which is fine make sure that wherever you mount your camera when you put the rearview mirror back to its position that it's not going to obscure those buttons from the customer's reach once you've figured out exactly whe
re you want to mount the camera the next thing you're going to want to do is make sure that the camera is straight because once you stick this to the windshield you're not going to be able to adjust the angle side to side you can adjust the camera up and down but you won't be able to twist the the lens from side to [Music] side so now that we prepped our harness mounted our bracket and we're ready to snap the camera into the bracket and run our wires we're going to actually take a note on this v
ehicle the wiring will run down the passenger side that's why we've changed the orientation here normally if you're doing a standalone installation or an installation on a vehicle where the remote start brain is on the driver's side we would be routing our wires down the driver's side instead of the passenger side once you route your wires above the headliner come down the a pillar then the cable will be down under the dash now that we've run our wire we are ready to make our connections at the
brain and as you can see the first connection I've made are power and ground to the camera once we've connected that power and ground at that point the only connection left to make would be our gray cable plugged into the gray port at the back of the brain and that will complete the installation of the Drone XC dash camera this is our interior camera to add this to the Drone XC dash camera is very simple all you need to do is take the female 2.5 mm connector this camera plugs directly into that
plug so you literally just plug that in and then you're going to clean your windshield and affix this to the windshield and then adjust it appropriately this is equipped with a ball and socket joint so you can aim this camera left and right and up and down camera is also equipped with a light sensor and infrared emitters so it can see in the dark so if you're installing a rear view camera you're going to route your wires along the headliner between the door gasket and the headliner along all the
way to the back of the vehicle and into the rear hat hatch if you're in a vehicle like this um you need to make sure that you actually route your wire through the door boot for the rear hatch and mount the camera to that back window make sure that your hands are clean before you touch the headliner if any of you have ever marred a headliner it's impossible to clean after the fact and that would plug into the same connector as the interior camera in place of that so it's either the interior or t
he rearview camera for this particular application it's one or the other now that once you've completed your installation the next step is actually activating the Drone so to do that you're going to navigate to the my firsttech app on your phone or go to myir tech.com on your computer once you've reached that you're then going to click on drone activation as soon as you click drone activation it's going to ask you for a serial number now once that's entered the next thing you're going to click i
s new device this is a new device that we're activating for the very first time so we're going to click C on new device and then we're just going to follow the prompts so this tells us to make sure that we have power for at least 60 seconds before we activate it and we've done that so we're going to go ahead and click next the next screen is going to ask you for vehicle details these are not required but they are recommended then you're going to click next and then it's going to actually go out
and check to see if the device is connected to the network this device as you can see is connected to the network successfully so we will just skip to the next step by clicking next once you've done on that the next screen is going to check for updates this is important because firmware is updated very frequently so just go ahead and click on check for update and this particular device is already updated so it just tells us that the firmware is up to date and we can go on past the step now what
the device is going to do is it's actually going to query what it's plugged into so it's going to ask the brain that it's plugged into what are you whether it be a DC3 a cmx A cm900 or some other brain it will know what it's plugged into by asking those questions digitally so at this point we're going to go ahead and change whatever settings need to be changed in the brain and then we're going to save those changes once we've done that that physically changes those settings in the brain and now
we're on to the testing screen so we're actually testing to make sure that the Drone responds to our commands from our app so if verify GPS the next step we can send an arm command or whatever command you'd like it doesn't necessarily have to be an arm or arm command we need to send two successful commands and as you heard I sent a successful command the vehicle responded so now we know that this device is up and running on the network and actually operating so at that point we're going to click
next it's going to ask you if you want to send a welcome to your customer so you can either send them an email or a text message in my experience text messages work best if you have the customer cell phone number send them a text it will show up very quickly it will allow them to get the information information they need to download the app so once you've completed your installation you've completed the activation of the device and also completed the registration you will be able to live view t
he dash camera from the app so we're going to demo what it looks like in the app to actually see the live view from the camera so what you're going to do in the app is scroll all the way to the bottom of the homepage so scroll all the way down to the dash cam section and you can connect to the camera via Wi-Fi or through the cellular network in this case we're right next to the car right next to the camera so we're going to choose Wi-Fi and then we're just going to tap where it says tap to live
view and then once we do that our live view is going to come right up on our phone and then if you see I Wander over in front of the car you'll see me appear on the camera and I'm actually live viewing myself in real time as you can see this is an exciting new product not only is it easy to use and easy to install but it also adds another layer of security for control as well as monitoring your vehicle that is unmatched in the industry thanks for watching and stay tuned for more drone XC content
coming your [Music] way

@firebirdude2

Great job, guys! Thank you for the detailed video. We needed this!

@mnsquatch1900

Very Nice Team! Who's that super smart, informative, man! LOL Can't wait! (Jose from Minnesota LOL)

@brianflores3745

If a customer already has a dronmobile subscription for their vehicle, do you need another subscription for the camera separately or does that tap into the vehicles subscription

@awetkibreab2033

Are you guys have available in Canada

@BionicLabs

What kind of options could I give my customer if they want the camera in there vehicle, but they already have an X1 installed?

@myFirstech

What type of vehicle are you installing Drone XC-LTE on?

@bearburgess6580

Can this replace the memento m6/7, and can the rear cam from the memento plug into the xc?

@nandycanela6061

I don’t like how it could be easily removed by a thief. At least with the X1, it's hidden inside the dash. But this makes it easier to identify if a car has an alarm system. A dash cam and a security system should be two separate devices.

@kameronselvey4723

When will these be available to buy?

@mnsquatch1900

Not sure if allowed... Don't just think Automotive!...😉
