group of junior high school students is working
on a project ahead of the April 8th Eclipse with the help of their science teacher they're
going to be creating interactive displays for their Community Amad lean's live in the
studio with more details Jeff the group of students I talked to were about seven years old
when the last Eclipse crossed over the hardland now they're putting their brains together to
build a science project in honor of another big event we wanted to make sure that this
was
going to be special and something that the kids in the community could bond around and just
make a really good impression for everybody Jay Spurgeon is a science teacher at Jackson high
school he has been leading a group of 8th grade students in creating several projects revolved
around the upcoming Eclipse Spurgeon hopes his students will use this project as motivation
for future experiments just the inspiration for the kids to want to explain want to learn and
want to experience thi
s the selected students include J grimmel Lily Adams Claire kitchen
and Michelle sisman grimel tells me about the learning opportunities they'll get from the
eclipse project we're specifically creating some models of the solar eclipse to explain how it
happens and why it's so rare that it happens while Adams and sisman explained how they use a hula
hoop to demonstrate the moon overshadowing the Sun during totality it's so hard with the Earth
spinning and the moon orbiting Earth for it to ge
t perfectly lined up so we can be in the path of
totality so wherever the Moon is that's where it would hit on my face Sur I was the Earth spuren
tells me he's impressed with their work they're all doing a fantastic job uh and it's I'm a big
science nerd so this is fun plus the students involved are looking forward to putting their
projects on display yeah we're really excited the students will demonstrate their project at the
Uptown Jackson celebration on April 8th Spurgeon tells me when h
e welcomes folks to get a glimpse
of the kids work on display back to you Jeff
