I am Abby Harris. I live in Forsyth with my husband, Monty. We have two daughters. Lily is 16 and Ella is 14. So when Ella was born, she did fail her initial hearing test and continued to have health problems as she developed under age one. She wasn't doing the regular things kids were supposed to be doing, she wasn't meeting those milestones. She didn't crawl as earlier, walk as early. She wasn't talking as early as say our firstborn, but by about one she really was starting to regress instead
of move forward. We were seeing loss of language. Um, we were seeing loss of movement. We were concerned about her hearing. Um, and so that's what prompted us to, to really search more and kind of go beyond what we were getting at the time. I found a pamphlet at our local grocery store, I think on the bulletin board, and found a child find for Montana Milestones early Intervention. They were at a school and they were doing assessments. When we first got involved with Montana Milestones, part C,
we were nervous but excited to find answers and to try to get to the bottom of what, what was going on with Ella. During the initial screening, they did basic milestone assessments, find motor skills, et cetera, and at that point they referred us to an autism diagnosis clinic because they suspected that Ella had autism. Not only did early intervention help Ella and help her succeed in so many more ways than was predicted, it helped our whole family. It's hard to imagine what our life would be wi
thout early intervention, but I can tell you it would be a lot harder. Many families in the state of Montana don't even know about early intervention Part C or that it's free and that there's not a waiting list. I would recommend seeking out early intervention because it can be simply life changing for you and your child.
