Ma, am, How are you? I am doing well. What is your name? My name is Titas. I am from Bangladesh. Bangladesh. wonderful! My name is Cynthia.
it's nice to meet you today. Nice to meet you too. and you're calling
me in Chicago in the United States so okay. okay , Do you want to just talk
about any topic? we can talk about festival. festivals yeah you know did you
say talk about festivals? yes okay yes tell me about some festivals in
Bangladesh. in my country in festivals puja then Eid. but majority
of our country
are Muslim. most people celebrate Eid here. after one month fasting the people
go to the Mosque for prayer. after prayer the back at home and Eid day all of the
religious people go outside wearing new dress and they try to meet with
neighbour with relatives and yeah then they go to any go to the restaurant
for eating delicious food. yeah that's all about in my country. Can you please
explain major festivals in your country? so in the u.s. we have a lot of
celebrations I think th
e biggest one or one of the biggest ones would be the 4th
of July I don't know if you've heard of the celebration but it is held on the
4th of July every year to commemorate the Independence of the US or the
separation from England so this day no one works
everyone stays home and most people have barbecues where they grill food and you
spend it with your family and your friends sweetie the day to relax it's
summertime so a lot of people go swimming or they
go to the woods or something outdoors a
nd that's where that we have our
cookout. okay, oh and there's also fire there are fireworks lots and lots of
fire on this day. What is your favorite festival?
my favorite festival I like the fourth of July but I also like Thanksgiving.
have you heard about Thanksgiving? yes yes it's not really a festival but it's
a holiday and people don't work on this day either
no one has school and I like this day in particular because you have dinner with
your family and your friends and it's also a relaxi
ng day normally in the
morning you watch the parade it is held in New York City the Macy's Day Parade
and while light well that is going on with TV you are preparing dinner for
your family. oh nice! so it's a it's a fun day where you have lots of yummy food.
what is your favorite holiday yeah? this is tough question because I'm definitely
a holiday person. but I would love to celebrate New Year Eve. okay
I love to go to with my friends in outside and at midnight and we try to
eat delicious food
and also I do make new year resolutions. yeah
I enjoyed that day. okay so normally in your country it is normal to spend this
day with your family instead sorry with your friends instead of your family? We
try to follow boths because in our country, We love to do dinner with family we love to eat homemade food. and
we try to eat with our family and after dinner we go to outside with our friends
for wishing each other and giving gift or eating something and then talking
each other, walking on th
e street, long driving then we can come back to home. yeah. yes so what about you people love
to celebrate with your friends or your family? so in the US Christmas is for
family and New Year's is more for your friends okay so Christmas you spend it
with your family you have dinner and then a week later is New Year's and for
New Year's some people have dinner with their
family but just like you after dinner people get ready they dress up and they
go out they go party with their friends yeah so th
at's very it's very similar
like in your country. okay, How do festival today differ from past?
that's a really good question I think when I was a child you didn't
really have a choice but you couldn't just go with your friends right you have
to do with your parents see but I think with as a years have gone by
each holiday has become bigger and bigger so now it's people are encouraged
to spend more money to go out to go to travel to different countries during the
holidays and people are spending
more money especially for Christmas I think
Christmas used to be a more family kind of holiday but now unfortunately I think
it's become focused on the gifts that you give people like some people give
more importance to the gifts and the amount of money that they cost instead
of the real reason why you are celebrating that make sense yeah.
Actually in my case is almost the same when I was a kid we did a lot of things
like that any festival happening so that we got a new dress every
festival we
need new demands right so we within within a small amount of money we enjoyed a lot. right and we buy just a chocolate we
really enjoyed that times but nowadays we are too busy with our official tasks
as well as personal tasks. Nowadays, we celebrate if we get any holiday
then would try to stay at home listening music and watching movie right so
nowadays we are not not too much enjoying right also if more if I add
something like that here nowadays we are just go to the restaurant just eat
someth
ing delicious food or highest we can go to the long drive then you can
come back home. Again start work. yeah exactly
what is the national dish of your country? Our country national dish
are the rice and fish. rice and fish okay!
