happening right now a funeral service for University of Missouri student Riley straight his body was discovered last week in a Nashville River two weeks after he vanished during a night out with friends so strain was last seen on surveillance video wandering the streets but he somehow ended up in the Cumberland River and when his body was recovered he wasn't wearing any pants he wasn't wearing his cowboy boots and his wallet was missing the coroner's report said no foul play is suspected but Ril
ey's family revealed startling new details after a second autopsy including a lack of water in his lungs last night a pair of forensic experts spoke with Brian inton on Elizabeth fargus reports saying there is more to be investigated it's troubling to me however that the Nashville police said that you know that they're no longer investigating this and their autopsy I think that one of the commentators stated that just a second ago that their autopsy had revealed nothing they being the Nashville
police it's not their autopsy it is the cornered examiner's autopsy and to this point we don't have toxicology yet so I think they've really jumped the gun on this I have a problem with this we need to know what's going on in this young man's system all right let's bring in senior National correspondent Brian Inon and Brian what else do we know about the second autopsy well we know that the family was concerned Nicole uh the police were very quick to say they didn't believe that there was any Fo
ul Play and it's not that the family thinks there necessarily was Foul Play they just want a thorough investigation there are things that don't make sense to them like the fact that his uh pants were not on and his size 15 cowboy boots were not on him but his shirt was still on him and his Apple watch was still on him and also his wallet wasn't wasn't there and hasn't been found so they've just got questions that don't they don't really up in their mind and that's the reason Nicole uh that they
decided look we want to have our own private autopsy done that was also done in Tennessee uh and they're still waiting on the results obviously toxicology uh is going to be the biggest part of that all right and Brian I I believe we have more from your interview but from the forensic experts let's listen to that there's a lot of questions about the fact that the family was told that there was not water uh in Riley's lungs how do you explain that well there's really two ways to drown if you will
um one is a wet drowning one is a dry drowning and in a wet drowning the person is panicking they're taking water in the other situation is when the person is about to drown they do panic but their their throat basically freezes up they have they have what's called a lingo spasm and that prevents Water and Air from getting in so there may not be that much water in the lungs if that is what happened many times the current will take shoes off particularly if you've got slipon cowboy boots which uh
he is alleged to have had on I I have a harder time though Brian with uh the clothing on his lower body his pants and in that list that you mentioned they didn't say anything about a belt I I'd want to know if his pants were belted as well he could this body could very well have hung up somewhere for a protracted period of time and then turned loose I've had that happen where it'll pause and then the current will catch the body and it float so there's a lot to consider here that's why it's very
important not to say anything prematurely you know and Brian there really is a lot to consider here now that we we have the results of this second autopsy what is going to happen next well that's the big question I mean we talked to Nashville police yesterday and they they said look they're still waiting on the final autopsy results the toxicology but this is not an open investigation and that's what has Riley's parents so upset is they think that the police should still be going out right now
and trying to interview some of the witnesses there's a lot of homeless people there's a homeless population that lives near that River uh they want them to go out and try to talk to everybody uh about what they may have seen and it's interesting what the experts said right there I mean there's all these different explanations here that could come into play in terms of why uh the pants and the boots came off but we just don't really know I've also heard look there were no puncture wounds on Rile
y there was no signs of Foul Play so it's not like there were any stab wounds and what I'm told is when your body's in in the water like that in the river and you don't have any wounds the body would bloat uh which is one reason that the the clothes should not have come off uh so the bottom line is is the family wants wants more of an investigation and we'll have to wait and see if if Nashville police is going to do it right I mean I certainly it's easy to understand why the family would want th
is investigation you can't blame them right I mean any parent any parent would want that yeah so we will see what happens I know you're staying on top of it thank you for watching go to newsnation now.com to find newsnation on your television provider and don't forget to click the red subscribe button below to get more of news nation's fact driven unbiased coverage

@Done832

Common sense tells you there is more to this story. From the behavior from the bar, hitting his head, finding his credit/debit card on a rock, no water in lungs, no pants, no boots, no wallet, it just doesn't add up to a simple drowning. His parents are right and need to stick to investigating the situation by whomever they can find who is good at it. It's easy to say no foul play and it's much less expensive. The truck was broken into and I am pretty sure that didn't happen on it's own so that at least tells you there was somewhere in the area up to no good who wanted money or something of value.

@QueenPaulaBanks

They deserve a thorough investigation. It is a cover up.

@JTIdesign1

According to the Cleveland Clinic, "dry drowning" has occurred in only 10%-15% of drownings, and is "acutely rare." Some report 7%, with the majority being little children. According to Cedars Sinai, "Risk of death from this type of submersion injury in the absence of loss of consciousness at the scene would be exceedingly low compared with death from an actual, real-time drowning." And this is very interesting per dry-drowning... according to the New England Journal of Medicine, "In most people, the laryngospasm relaxes sometime after unconsciousness due to hypoxia in the larynx, and water can then enter the lungs, causing a 'wet drowning.' However, about 7–10% of people maintain this seal until cardiac arrest." So, had he dry-drowned, once he lost consciousness water would have still entered his lungs, or he would have had cardiac arrest soon after the event. His autopsy showed no cardiac arrest, as far as we've been told.

This happy camper loves Brian Entin! Been watching him since Gabby Petito case. Go, Brian!

@JJN603

if there are so many possibilities of foul play and there is no definitive way to prove it was an accident then how can they rule out foul play?

@JTFey1

Cover-up by Nashville to protect the tourist business and cover up their decision to allow a homeless encampment in a tourist area. Call in the TBI.

@JJN603

why do all the investigators want to say this was an accident so badly when there are possibilities of foul play?

@sandyhayre188

Bless his family. Hugs to them

@Britnayz

Same thing with Kiely Rodni case but her weight decreased instead of increasing from bloating, her tattoo was in the wrong area, her height decreased, no water in her lungs and nothing in her system to impair her driving ability in an area she was very familiar with! Then she was rapidly Cremated and White-Out was used on her autopsy report rendering it Null and Void legally so couldn't be used in a Court of Law!!!

@DouglasCurrence

There needs to be an investigation!

@maryrine-marybel7118

First autopsy was wrong can’t believe they didn’t check that

@eden_aumakua

My deepest condolences to the family.

@carolynarnett7282

They need to get someone to come in here and get justice for their son

@katejones9046

The parents are concerned because the police closed the investigation. I would be too because the toxicology hasn't had a chance to be processed. They didn't go into enough detail here to know whether an autopsy can actually determine a 'dry-drowning'.

@cc967

Nashville doesn’t want to taint their reputation by possibly finding “foul play.”

@sweetirishgirl8685

Sending prayers to his home dad. Gpd please let the parents find out the real reason what teally happened to Riley. Amen

Most people who wear jeans and boots wear belts. * Whenever you're wearing jeans and you get wet,the jeans will cling to your skin, especially if they're tight. Boots don't come off as easily as tennis shoes do. * How does anyone know what really happened? What if there 🤔 were a couple or a group of people that live around the area and they go into the bars watching people and looking for people to single out to get them alone to rob them,to do other things to them and then toss them into the river? Did Riley meet anyone at the bars? Did he call someone while walking down the sidewalk, and did that person tell him to walk to meet them under the bridge? Maybe his phone 📱 was taken because it holds clues. * I think that each case should be investigated 🔎 until there's solid proof that there was no foul play. Don't just accept that because a person was intoxicated and walking near the river that they just accidentally fell in and don't be mad at others for having different opinions or feelings and wanting answers. Did the police question the homeless people who live close to the bridge down in the trees 🌳 on the embankment? People are saying that a homeless man heard a commotion down there, and a man said, " He's okay, he's just drunk." Who was with Riley whenever he walked under the bridge? ** I agree with his parents for wanting a second opinion and for going with their instincts. Riley was very close to her mom,so she knew that something was wrong whenever she hadn't heard from him because he always called her three or four times a day. Prayers for answers 🙏, strength, peace, and healing for Riley's family and especially his parents. Prayers that 2024 will be the year for answers and justice for many victims 🙏.

@carolevargas5843

God bless Riley and his family and friends

@danabro6311

I'm sure the rush to the conclusion that there was no foul play was just damage control for the city of Nashville they should have said that they need to wait for the toxicology results before they made any decision at all

@GregLakatosChradm

If he was missing his pants then why do act like his wallet missing is someting?
