Several videos are being shared on social
media platforms with the claim that a woman recently gave birth to a snake in India.
The exact locations vary across posts, some of these being Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and
West Bengal. Extensive keyword searches on the internet did not yield substantiated reports
or verifiable evidence of a woman giving birth to a snake anywhere in India. Humans and snakes
belong to different biological classifications with distinct reproductive systems. Humans
are m
ammals, giving birth to live young, while snakes are reptiles that mostly lay eggs.
The genetic makeup, anatomical structures, and reproductive processes of humans and snakes
are fundamentally different. In addition to these biological reasons, there is also the fact
that there is no evidence that any human woman has ever given birth to a snake or other species.
All the cases that have been reported have either been hoaxes or cases of mistaken identity.
Regarding the visuals in the viral vi
deos, an image of an ultrasound scan report seemingly
showing a snake-like creature in a woman’s womb went viral earlier with the claim that one Dr
Shailendra Jain from Etah, Uttar Pradesh refused to treat a pregnant woman upon discovering a snake
in her womb. But in an interview with Amar Ujala, Dr Jain clarified that they did not
encounter such a case, thereby calling the photo and accompanying story false. As for
the visuals depicting doctors performing surgery, the video is from a Pakis
tani hospital and does
not show a woman giving birth to a snake. Earlier claims of a snake being found in a woman’s
womb and being discovered through an X-ray have all been revealed as hoaxes. And so, as it is
scientifically impossible for humans to give birth to snakes and there have not been any recorded
instances of such an event, these posts are fake.
