at M Memorial keeps growing here where the accident happened you could see behind me balloons and flowers and candles for Riley we talked to his Club baseball coach who says Riley made a big impact on not only his peers but everyone who had the chance to know him to have it cut short you know this quickly this quickly is so hard 16-year-old Riley Young's life taken two soon in a tragic accident Sunday morning just before 1:30 Phoenix police say Riley was the passenger in a car with another teen
boy they were driving near 43rd Avenue and Happy Valley Road when the driver lost control hit a curb then rolled and hit a tree you can still see tire marks and shattered glass where the accident happened now leading up to the memorial both teens were taken to the hospital with serious injuries but Riley didn't make it get people say that you know as coaches we pick players Riley's kind of honestly Riley picked me Mike Mitchell was Riley's Club baseball coach for a team called the Scottdale dirt
bags Riley also played ball at Sandra de o Conor high school he was excited about the possibility of making varsity this year as a sophomore Mitchell said Riley was a hard worker and was respectful to everybody every time he got put in a situation he just succeeded he says Riley would spend his free time coaching younger players Mitchell says he would often use Riley as an example of how to play he called it the Riley way a message that now holds even more of a meaning to him you everybody talk
s about you know the players learn from us as the coaches but I learned a lot from from Riley you know and there's not too many kids like that now tonight Phoenix police tell me that they do believe speed could be a factor in this crash but they do not think the team driver was under the influence there has been a GoFundMe account created for Riley's funeral expenses we do have a link to that on our website aam.com live in Phoenix tonight I'm Holly boach for Arizona's family
