Are you looking for potential
funders for your nonprofit? You can get started quickly by conducting a
simple search on Foundation Directory. Start your search right from
the homepage by describing your organization's work in the text box area. It’s best to keep the description short
and straightforward -- what you do and where. For our example, we’ll use “Food bank
in Houston Texas” and click the Search button. In an instant you’ll see how Foundation
Directory has interpreted your text in
the Showing Results For statement.
In this case, it’s Food banks, Houston Texas as the geographic location, and
low-income people as the population served. Once you run the search, you
can see the total grantmakers, grants, and recipients for that given search. If the search filters look good, start
reviewing the results. If they don’t, you can delete any of them by clicking
on the ‘x’ to the right of the term. You may need to try a few searches to finetune your list of potential funders. I
f you
would like to see more search results, try deleting a term or two. Remember many
funders provide very broad grant descriptions, therefore searches with many specific terms
will cut out your funding opportunities. Each search provides this overview
-- Aggregate totals for grantmakers, historic grant awards, recipients of
those grants, and related 990 tax forms. To refine your current search
more, use the EDIT button. And to build a new search from
scratch, select CLEAR ALL. That’s al
l there is to searching for
funders on Foundation Directory! Now it’s your turn – start with a quick search
describing what you do and where you work. Log in to begin your next
search! Good luck fundraising!
