The department of design at San José State
University has decided to start the first masters of design in the California State University
system. We are uniquely located in Silicon Valley, we are the public university of Silicon Valley.
Our vision for this program is to support new voices in animation we want students that have a vision for new TV show or short film or cool video game. Our curriculum has a main sequence of courses that are all in support of the main project that each student
has. These projects can be individual or collaborative. In this core classes there will be research and there will be just putting
the project together. And then we have a set of complementary courses in digital technology, in design, in concept design, in animation, and those courses are going to support the students
individual projects. Each student will have an advisor that's a member of our program that will follow that student from day one all the way to graduation. And in addition to tha
t
each student will be paired with a mentor from industry that is someone that's not working in the program it's an industry professional that will come and advise you in your project. The animation program at SJSU currently has a number of faculty who work in the industry. We also hire lecturers that come from animation studios in the Bay Area and California at large. We also have a number of co-curricular activities every semester such as lecture series and workshops and portfolio reviews for
students that bring in Industry professionals. Students graduating from this program will be able to pitch their projects to some of the top studios in the country. They will also be able
to land positions in some of the major studios in the United States and also internationally,
as creators of ideas, as a intellectual property developers, of people that are able to create
their own content for the entertainment industry. Students participating in the Master of Design Program and Animation
will have access to state-of-the-art facilities including access to
robotics, 3D printers, AR and VR setups and a computer lab filled with the latest and greatest software applications used by industry professionals.
