oh welcome back to morning break live here at the Deer Creek course at The Landings and we are talking about the Club Car Championship it is Media day five weeks away from the start of tournament week that's right we're skipping right over the month of March and going right to the first week in April I'm pleased to be joined by the executive director of the uh golf The Landings Golf and athletic club and a whole list of things step FY that was just going through that um let's focus just on the g
olf and what we're here to talk about today how excited are you when we talk about that being uh five weeks away from tournament time well it's uh it's interesting that it follows uh a PGA Tour event yesterday where Jake knp won Jake won on the PGA tour and he was tied I think tie 48 in this tournament last year so we always get excited because we get a chance to catch the rising stars of the game because a corn fairy tour is the gateway to the PGA Tour and we see some of the great players in th
e world playing on our one of our six golf courses and some of those are rising faster than others if he's already winning on the PGA tour uh let's talk about that what this tournament means the opportunity for local golf fans to come out and experience uh highlevel competition uh and seeing the the the stars of the future if you will yeah I mean we see this as part of the culture of our club we're not just interested in golf we're welded to the sport I mean with six golf courses we're kind of i
nto this thing and we just believe this is part of our mission is to provide that or that platform for the greatest golfers in the world or the rising stars to be able to hone their skills and then at the same time allow our members family friends local residents of the Low Country to come and see that and enjoy that with us so uh we just think that's part of you part of sustaining the game and growing the game but also creating something that's entertaining and fun what does it mean uh to have
an event like this here and then now we're talking about expanded coverage four rounds on the Golf Channel I mean Savannah is going to be in everybody's living room especially golf fans they're going to continue to see this and say well I that's a tournament that's a course I got to go play right we when we started talking about this in 2018 the the tournament and this is the host site we talked about the potential for golf channel coverage because that was obviously part of what we wanted it to
grow into and now that it's happening is really great a lot of people think of Hilton Head they think of Florida they think of spec Myrtle Beach as golf destinations but Savannah doesn't come up as often as it should so this gives us an opportunity to showcase not only this great Community with six Championship golf courses just one golf cart right away but the region as well and the uniqueness of Savannah and the growth and the culture and everything that makes it a very special place a lot of
people will look at that and go hey it's really cold here in the Midwest or the Northeast still the first week of April and then they see the guys walking around out here uh what does it take getting this course ready when you talk about five weeks out from tournament time what has to happen between now and then yeah the beauty is that we've got a membership that wants great conditions year round and they're willing to support it so consequently when we prepare this for tour play we're just pol
ishing the edges we're not uh residing things and going crazy we're just uh taking what's already a great tomasio Golf Course a championship test and making sure the details are right so it takes Manpower but it's not beyond what we would ordinarily provide our membership just providing a a classic Golf Course out here for a tournament that we'll bring in uh as he said the rising stars those uh maybe future PGA winners we actually have one p PGA winner four-time winner Harris English who's suppo
