[Music] Ball State University received the iypc or the Indiana youth programs on campus Grant from the Lilly endowment this year to start summer camp programming for Ball State University we are currently working to recruit more students to come to Ball State to specific colleges including the teachers College the College of communications and College of Health we have several students from around the state of Indiana that were able to attend the week for free they get to live in a dorm experien
ce what dorm life is like and meet so many new friends and do so many activities around both teaching and college life itself Teachers College Camp through the iypc grant is hosting the flight path to teaching adventure camp where students get to come to Ball State for a week live in the dorms kind of experience campus and come to Camp Adventure here in Muncie and work with local third graders and with Ball State teaching students they get to teach they get to learn about what Ball State offers
and how they can potentially become teachers and go to Teachers College here I wanted to come to Camp because I'm very social and I always like to meet new friends and other people and I was like it's a great way to get into teaching and get experience before I go to college all my teachers were always girls and I was like I want to become like a black male teacher because there was rarely any in my school I haven't had one I've always wanted to be a teacher my biggest inspiration is my mom she'
s my biggest role model and everything I do and I just always wanted to be like her and I've had so many amazing teachers in the past that have loved me and showed me how fun it can be to learn and I just want to instill that in my own classroom we started planning activities that included both the summer learning fun at Camp Adventure camp and then in the afternoons we go back and do campus activities so they can learn a little bit about what it's like to be a college student and campus life an
d we have had some fun interactive activities in the evening that included the Muncie Community places that they can go and things they could do in the Muncie Community as well as some activities related around teaching stem lessons all the extra things that we do in the evenings my favorite is going to the stem classroom and getting to dissect a cow eyeball that was so much fun and learning how to teach a stem lesson personally I've never taught a lesson ever in my life and it gives me a little
bit more practice into what I'll be doing when I go to college and it just helps me prepare a lot more and see what I need to work on my biggest takeaway from this experience is the behind the scenes that goes in to teaching like planning your lesson plans practicing the night before and just adapting to what your students are doing but also what's going on in your class my experience has been amazing I've met a lot of new friends and I got taught a lot of things a lot of the times teaching you
're teaching kids but the kids also teach you oh my favorite activities that I get to do is fishing in the wagon rides you can also do ropes course and the rock wall there's crafts and just there's so many different things you can do the kids are so full of energy and it they make it so much fun we are so grateful to the Lily Endowment for having given us this amazing Grant to be able to give these students in Indiana the opportunity to learn more about college and to think about their life Afte
r High School especially for students who might not have thought about going to college before this experience this experience definitely has leaned me towards going to Ball State by definitely interacting with all the kids all the people seeing the dorm rooms and how nice they can be and how fun the campus can be and how quiet it is these students have enjoyed every minute of being here and so have all of us who are working the camps and we cannot wait to see this Grant come to full fruition an
d potentially move past just these three colleges but into all all of the programming at Ball State University to allow for diverse Rich recruitment onto our campus and give amazing opportunities to our young students
