now to results 2024 where in just hours Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will likely announce he is running for president during a discussion with Twitter CEO Elon Musk now UCF history professor and News 6 political analyst Dr Jim Clark is here with us this morning and DeSantis is joining was already becoming a crowded field but this has been really the worst kept secret it has been for what three years now uh he's been campaigning he's been in Iowa he's been in New Hampshire and again as you say t
his is the worst kept secret in politics and his wife released that video last night and we just saw the clip of I mean everything strategic it seems they are really good at this as you know his wife Casey comes from a media background and I think that she is kind of the one advising him on how to get the maximum publicity and you have to give him credit um you know Tim Scott announced the other day and very few people noticed uh same with the other candidates and here for the last 24 hours he h
as gotten national attention just for the way he's announcing right and former president Donald Trump was reacting to the way he was announcing saying oh this is perfect for him he won't have to interact with media or people so former president Trump already kind of going after DeSantis and has been how how much do you think DeSantis will go after Trump during this process Well everybody's been saying he's not a candidate that's why he's not going after Trump he's you know holding his fire and n
ow it's going to be interesting to see if he goes head-to-head with Trump and how that works out we saw in 2016 where Trump just destroyed what were strong candidates like Jeb Bush with his uh comments and nicknames you know people still call Senator Rubio Little Marco left over from 2016. so it's going to be a nasty campaign there's been such a shift in alliances and relationships and you look at how DeSantis and Trump were you know once once amicable and that really broke down it really did an
d pretty quickly too I think that Trump was surprised by the popularity of DeSantis and going back to last November when DeSantis won overwhelmingly with 60 percent of the vote and the candidates recommended by Trump either lost or struggled and so I think that really propelled Governor DeSantis who now has been falling in the polls and Trump has been rising so it's going to be a very expensive uh bout and I think it may come down to the Florida primary and you know the political climate in Flor
ida right now we have travel advisories in place how do you think that will play into it uh you know I'm not sure that's going to be that much of a factor coming up uh I do think that that Florida will play a key role for a number of months Governor DeSantis was ahead in the polls in Florida and now Governor Trump uh former president Trump is ahead so I think the Florida primary will tell the tale all right and we have time for one more question how do you see DeSantis you know leveraging you kn
ow more in these polls and and gaining a a bigger shot at this compared to what's happening now his Advantage is he has lots of money to spend he has about a hundred million dollars he raised from the governor's campaign that he now can put to this and there's talk of him launching a a 200 million dollar initiative uh to go to Every home in Iowa and New Hampshire uh so they're going to be spending lots of money to try to get his poll numbers back up problem for the governor is all these other pe
ople now seeing him go down in the polls are suddenly getting interested in entering all right well we we want to talk some more if it's going to be a long campaign yes we'll check back in with you soon Dr Clark
